Cut - Any "Must Haves"?
Going to Cut for the first time on Saturday. Any "must have or must try" apps, side dishes or desserts? Any suggestions for the best cut of meat you have tried there?
Winter Brew Battle
So far I have tried Anchor (Our Special Ale); Sierra Nevada (Celebration Ale); Alaskan (winter ale); Full Sail (Wassail); New Belgium (2 Degrees Below Winter Ale); Red Hook (Winter Hook) and Sam Adams (Winter). Not surprisingly (as is the case most years), I enjoyed Anchor's version with Sierra Nevada's a close second. Full Sail and New Belgium's variations were good and the rest were fairly mediocre.
Does anyone else have an opinion on these Winter Brews? Any others out there that need to be tried?
Anchor Steam Christmas Ale in Los Angeles
Bevmo in Pasadena has a large supply. I am really enjoying it this year.
watergrill rec
Looking for Watergrill rec from someone that has been there in the last month relating to the current menu.
Parkway Grill Recs?
Anybody been to the Parkway Grill recently? I would like some recommendations for those that have eaten their recently.
Drinks near Convention Center?
The Palm is the closest spot...good drinks, bad prices
Date night recs for Eagle Rock?
I second Cafe Beaujolais. My wife and I love this place. Great food at reasonable prices. Nice romantic setting.
Pizzeria Mozza - Recommendations
Get the bianca pizza, but ask for it with bacon. The manager suggested this the first time I was there and irder every time now.
Restaurants near Staples Center
The Palm would be perfect. Right across the street from Staples.

Happy Hour at the Oinkster?
I was there last weekend and saw their version of "animal style" fries with cheese; thousand island and onions. Does anyone have a comprehensive happy hour menu? Also, what are the happy hour drink specials?
Mario Batali's Osteria at Mozza
Great review. You caught the same things that keep me going back: burrata; raviolo; orechiette; aunt's beef tagliata and the olive oil gelato. My mouth watered as I read the review.
BEST FRENCH FRIES IN LOS ANGELES
Just had Oinkster's fries on Friday. Much crisper and tastier than when they first opened. I think they finally have it down perfectly.
Mozza pizzaria or osteria?
Be sure to try the bianca pizza and order it with bacon on it (the manager suggested this the last time I was there and it was incredible). The caprese salad is very good as is the fennel sausage pizza.
The Chalet in Eagle Rock
I second the Cafe Beaujolais rec, but the place is fairly small, so you might want to get reservations. Casa Bianca is a good choice as well if you can avoid the wait. WIth a party your size, you can call ahead about one hour in advance to limit the wait. Mia Sushi is also pretty good if you are in the mood for sushi. It is on Eagle Rock Blvd.
Best restaurants in Eagle Rock?
Cafe Beaujolais has great french for good prices. Get the halibut.
Sushi in Glendale - Recommendations Needed
Forget Glendale, go to Mia Sushi in Eagle Rock (minutes from Glendale, right off of Colorado Blvd.) It is exactly what you are looking for, not fancy or expensive, but good Sushi in a fairly pleasurable setting.

Recommendations for Inexpensive in Poipu Beach,Kauai?
I agree with Brick Oven Pizza. Good pizza, a lot of food and inexpensive. Just a short drive from Poipu.
Delicious New Find at El Portal, Pasadena
I don't understand the whole "tourist trap" comment. This place is essentially hidden on Green Street and is not in Old Town, so how can it be considered a tourist spot?
Disappointing NY pizza [Moved from the LA board]
OK, I think I understand better now. NY's reputation for great pizza is not about an overall large selection of great pizza places, like LA and Mexican food, but that there about a dozen places that are levels above other places throughout the county. I wish I would have hit those places when I was there. Next time!
Disappointing NY pizza [Moved from the LA board]
I ate a lot of Pizza while in NY. Most of the time I would go to small, no name places to try and get a sense of what NY pizza was about. Some of these smaller places were very good (not sure of the names of them though). Of the places that were recommended to me, I was able to get to John's, DeMarco and Grimaldi's (and I have placed them in the order from best to worst, in my opinion). Again, overall the pizza was good, just not so overwhelming that I would place NY on the pedestal it is on for pizza.
It could be that these other places that I missed are amazing. However, it has continuously been claimed that the overall quality and taste of the many pizza places in NY are superior to other cities, which I just didn’t find. For example, LA has a reputation for the best Mexican food. Now I am sure there are great Mexican food joints in NY, however, I guarantee that the overall offerings and quality that LA provides cannot be matched in other cities, save a few places in Texas.

I did. Walked across the bridge for it. I'm not going to say I didn't like it because it definately was good, but it wasn't so spectacular and different from any other good pizza you can get in any large city. I guess I am in the minority.

[This thread was split from a discussion of NY style pizza on the LA board. You can find that discussion at http://www.chowhound.com/topics/441827#2946545 --The Chowhound Team]
I was in NY a few weeks ago (I am born and raised in LA). I was excited to try the NY pizza I was hearing so much about. I was completely disappointed (and yes I went to all of the places that are supposed to have the best pizza). I guess I just don’t get it. Too me, the pizza just wasn’t that tasty and wasn’t much different than the pizza I can get in LA or any large city. Sorry to say that I believe the city is a little pretentious when it comes to everything, especially the pizza. We get it, NY is the greatest city in the world (and it does have great restaurants and food), but you would think that New Yorkers wouldn’t have to shove it down everyone’s throat if it were so good. To tell you the truth, most of my friends from LA laugh at this odd behavior of having to boast of everything. I point this out because the behavior actually occurs back East as well. Don’t mean to step on any toes, just an observation.
