Who has the spiciest and/or best chicken hot wings in northern virginia or DC area?
I was doubtful about the time but I actually ended up cooking them for about 65-70 minutes. What I'm about to say may be sacrilegious, but I think that I actually prefer them baked (and I LOVE fried foods)-the skin came out very crisp. My smoke alarm did go off but that has more to do with my lack of a hood which vents outside.

Pie crust made with melted butter?
A friend remembers making a fail proof pie crust with melted butter and refrigerated overnight. This technique goes against every other pie crust recipe that I've ever seen or tried. Unfortunately, she can recall the exact recipe-has anyone else run across a pie crust recipe which use melted (instead of ice cold) butter?

Are Bread Crumb Necessary for Meatballs?
When I'm making korean meatballs, I add drained firm tofu. Same for mandu filling.

Have you ever been billed months later on your credit card for a meal?
I once had a charge at a bar show up a couple of days later for the amount minus the tip. Then a couple months later, the amount for the tip showed up-go figure.

Where can I buy GIANT glasses?
Erlenmeyer flasks would be perfect-better than the pilsners. The erlenmeyers are wider on the bottom and range in size from 500ml all the way up to 4L (i.e. a gallon). Also, the pyrex glass is very sturdy.

Best Fruit Tart in DC?
I really like the fruit tart from the bakery at Whole Foods.

Are there nice b-day cakes to send by mail?
Not your traditional fluffy cake with frosting but this tort is THE BEST cake that I have ever tasted. I friend sent it to me for my birthday and absolutely everyone raved about it.

Anyone been to Enology yet??
It's actually not a bad walk from Enology to Cafe Divan, about a mile. I went in late on a Friday night and the place was not very crowded. I did have a really good dirty martini (yes, I know-it's a wine bar). We ordered one of their flatbreads (which I was expecting to be more of cracker/lavash type bread with savories). What we ended up receiving was basically a pizza-not so great.
I haven't dined at Cafe Divan for a couple of years but the last few times I thought the food had gone downhill from when they first opened-maybe things have gotten better.

Pickled vegetables at A&J?
Anyone know what the pickled vegetables are called which are served with the fried chicken and fried pork chops? It's a finely chopped green veg, kind of looks like a pale minced spinach except crunchy. I once asked if this vegetable was the one listed as a small dish on the back of the menu and was told no (the waitress' english wasn't very good so I didn't press her). Any idea where I can buy the veg?

Shipping cold food
FedEx will take dry ice but only at specific venues (you can check on their website for ones that allow hazardous materials). You need to pack it in a styrofoam box (preferably one specifically made for dry-ice, the have thicker styrofam walls), then place it in an outer (cardboard) box. You will need to place a special hazardous material sticker on it if it will be going via air. Unless you need the stuff to be frozen when it arrives wet ice (in ziploc bags) or gel packs will be more than sufficient to keep them at 40 degrees overnight (packed into a styrofoam box). UPS and DHL have similar rules. Good luck.

Help a NYer: Places to eat near Rockville/Gaithersburg
I've really been enjoying Bob's Noodle, much more so than Joe's (which I find to be somewhat hit or miss). I am currently addicted to the ginger chicken casserole from Bob's. For Taiwanese little plates, try A&J. Their fried chicken is great (as are their scallion pancakes).

Food you eat in the privacy of your own home? (WARNING: Potentially disgusting, feel free to not open if you are squeamish)
My freaky 8 year old niece will only eat the tail of a deep fried shrimp-leaves the meat for her mom. She does this in public and at home.

Food you eat in the privacy of your own home? (WARNING: Potentially disgusting, feel free to not open if you are squeamish)
I have to admit that I have a hard time eating corn on the cob even if I'm all alone-something about the gnawed look of a cob with bits of kernels stuck to them grosses me out. I can only eat corn on the cob of I twist off a row of kernels and then use my thumb to kind of systematically shear them off the cob-anal, I know.

I used to have a thing about eating messy things with my fingers in public. It used to be that I wouldn't eat fried chicken in public but I ended up getting over it one summer when I was at the Taste of Chicago and couldn't resist getting an order of Harold's chicken wings. Now I love Harold's Chicken but having grown up on the north side I rarely got to eat them so when I saw the wings I just could not resist chomping into them amidst a crowd of thousands-YUMM. I still can't get myself to eat watermelon off the rind in public-now if they were dipped in batter and deep fried...

Refrigerating Bahn Mi--What's the verdict?
I seem to only eat banh mi as take out so I always ask them to pack the vegetables separately (they usually come in a plastic sandwich bag). I've never had a shop refuse to pack them separately-I think that they get the request often. Pop the sandwich in a toaster oven for a few minutes, garnich with the veg and enjoy. The bread is crispier than when fresh but it's still very good (just a bit different).

A good donut? DC/MD
Since Reeve's closed I haven't been able to find a good donut. I've tried the donuts from the Fractured Prune and I thought that they were OK but I don't need all the "stuff" on my donut-a delicious, plain cake donut will do just fine.

Chopped egg in tuna salad?? Is that strange?
Not to mention that there's mayo in the tuna salad-which is pretty much just egg and oil.

Shelled Chestnuts
You can find jars of them at William Sonoma, a bit pricey but better than the vacuum packed ones in the korean grocery stores.

If the restaurant should offer outdoor seating, that would be a plus with this great weather that we've been having.

Any recommendations for dinner tonight? I'm meeting an old friend who's never been in this area before and he's staying in College Park. I'd like to take him somewhere nice (well, not divey) which has really good food. Come to think of it, I don't think that I've ever had a meal in SS.

Chocolate spread, WITHOUT hazelnut
I have a Turkish friend who grew up eating plain chocolate spread without hazelnuts. She remembers it was called Choco Creme (sp?) and is hankering for some. Has anyone seen any for sale locally? Whenever I ask for chocolate spread, I'm always directed towards the Nutella.

Italian in NOVA
I'm in desperate need of a recommendation for a place for dinner on Saturday that has a good Italian or seafood menu and can acommodate 12 people (ranging in age from 5-75). Grandma tends to be a bit picky so a nicer place as opposed to a hole-in-the-wall. Anything come to mind?

Cake donuts
Where to find really goods ones in DC or
MD? I really liked the one's at Reeves and Montgomery Donuts-but, unfortunately, they are no longer around. I've tried the ones from the Fractured Prune, they're OK but I don't need all the toppings.

Dim Sum
The chinese tourists arrive on giant coaches every sunday but I think that has more to due with location and the presence of a large banquet room.
I find the dim sum there somewhat hit or miss but it is by far the best dim sum if you want to stay close to the city. When I have the time, or inclination, I make the trek out to Wheaton to Oriental East (long lines) or Hollywood east on the Boulevard ( never a wait and offers items which you usually don't see on most dim sum carts).

2 Amys always has suppli (similar to arancini) on their menu.
