ISO good breakfast (pancakes, please) between Westchester CO. NY and Atlantic City, NJ

Skylark diner (not a typical diner) in Edison is really good. I was there twice two weekends ago and both their egg dishes and french toast were great:

Dinner in Englewood, NJ

I am going to a see a show at the BergenPAC in Englewood the weekend after next and was hoping to find somewhere really close by to go have dinner beforehand. It is a bit of a special event, so I am looking for something above the level of hole in the wall, but it doesn’t have to be anything too fancy. I don’t know the area at all and I haven’t been able to find much by searching. Is Baumgart`s worth considering? I tend to not go for Italian. I have been to the Minado in nearby Little Ferry, and at the moment that is my fall back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dinner in Fairfield (the town), CT

Thank you to everyone who recommended Osianna. It was fantastic!

It is such a cute place and it looks like a great place to eat outdoors in the summer with that nice patio in the front. We ate on the lighter side so I don’t have much to report back on, but what we had was excellent. I had the rocket and romaine salad and the small plate of veal ossobuco, while my companion had the grouper special. The hardest thing was deciding what we wanted - everything looked great. They also had a nice number of wines by the glass and the waitress was very helpful in recommending something perfect for each of us. We had one small hiccup when they brought out the ossobuco before everything else even though we had indicated we wanted everything together, but they very expediently took it back and brought everything out together. Unfortunately we had to skip dessert because we were running out of time.

I will definitely be going back when I am back up in that area.

They do have a website, which is http://www.osianna.com/

Dinner in Fairfield (the town), CT

I am going to the Fairfield Theater Company on Sanford St. with a friend on Friday and we wanted to catch dinner beforehand. Doing a bit of online searching I came up with 3 options close by – St Tropez, Restaurante Islas and Sarabande. Has anyone been to any of these and have any comments? I tried doing a search on this board and didn’t see anything. Any other suggestions?

DRAGON FRUIT HELP!!!!!!!

Not sure about fresh, but you can get dried dragon fruit and freeze dried rambutan at Trader Joe's.

Where do you eat at the Palisades Mall?

I really like Lemongrass in New City. Personally I preferred it over the two places in downtown Nyack, although I am also biased by my dislike of parking in Nyack, especially on a weekend night. I always had very decent meals there. They have a separate vegetarian menu as well.

Across from Lemongrass is a great Greek place called Nesto's - www.nestosny.com, which has really good fish.

Cafe Mirage ... I'm worried

I absolutely LOVE the chocolate mousse at Café Mirage. However, the previous two times I ate there for dinner I was really underwhelmed. Flavors were off, food was cooked incorrectly (either too rare or too done) and it was just plain disappointing. Now I only go there for dessert.

We also had a pretty good meal at Cafe Tu Tu Tango (4th floor) - however it was SO LOUD. I can't remember if it was a weekend or weeknight, but they had dancers and every time they would dance around the restaurant they would crank the music up to an almost painful level. I do remember thinking that the chocolate mousse was worth going back for.

Good Eats in Northeast NJ By NY border?

I tried to go to Manna tonight and there was a sign on the door that said the restaurant was closed: new management soon. Really disappointing.

Anyone know where I can get burrata cheese in New Jersey?

You might give Corrado's in Clifton a call to see if they have it. I have been to their grocery store a few times while picking up supplies in their brewing shop - they are Italian based and I remember they had some interesting cheeses.

One note about Lulu's is that they aren't for early breakfast eaters (at least on Saturday). The only do breakfast on the weekends and they open at 11am on Sat and 9am on Sun. I just called to check regarding someone else's post for a breakfast spot off 287.

Lulu’s Café in West Nyack is a great place for breakfast and good sandwiches – owned by the same people who run Temptation Café in Nyack. A great alternative to a diner breakfast.

I really like Manna Korean Barbeque on 59 in Nanuet. If you order two or more meat items you can cook your own. The bulgogi and kimchi pork are both very good.

Another Korean place is Hi, Seoul in Bardonia. This is a small, cute place that serves a fixed menu (4 main dishes) and you choose two sides, plus soup and fruit for dessert.

Nestos Estiatorio in New City is very good for upscale Greek inspired seafood.

I second Nanuet Hotel for pizza and the basics – plus they are open late and there aren’t too many places that serve cider.

For a quick informal dinner, Marigrills in Nanuet is great for salads and wraps.

Name of Indian Restaurant on Route 59?

I am guessing you are thinking of Taal. I have only eaten there once, and thought it was decent. They have a website: www.taalcuisine.com

I have eaten at Natraz twice and woulnd't go back. I found it bland and overpriced.

My favorite Indian in Rockland (so far) is Priya in Suffern. www.priyaindiancuisineny.com

Lower Westchester - Restaurants for Private Party?

It is a bit further south, but I recently did a dinner for 15 at Samba na Brassa, a churrascaria, in Mt Vernon. Everyone loved it, although we didn’t have any vegetarians. It is a huge restaurant and I think they have private rooms available. They have different pricing packages and you can choose to include drinks or not.

We did a dinner a few years ago at La Provencal and it was very nice, although it isn’t a very big place. We had 25 people and it was a tight fit in their back room.

I recently checked out Ruby's and if I remember correctly it was a $2500 minimum for the private room. However, it would probably also depend what night it is (I was looking for a Saturday).

Cafe Livorno, Rye or other for 16 on a Saturday

I am planning a dinner in the Rye area for 16 on a Saturday night in January. Livorno seemed amenable and will offer a prix fix menu (haven't gotten it yet). Has anyone been to Cafe Livorno? Any reviews?

Other Rye restaurants didn't like the idea of a large group on a Saturday night unless it was really early. I am looking at around 6-6:30 and don't want to rush my group out. I tried Watermoon, Ruby's and Aurora, none of which I have eaten at myself, but at least the first two have gotten good reviews here. They were all wary of a group at that time.

If anyone has any other recommendations, that would be great. I have considered the Doral Arrowwood buffet, but I don't know how good that is. I might drop by there to check it out tomorrow. Has anyone eaten at the Whitby castle?

Breakfast between Stamford and New Haven along I-95?

The City Limits Diner has good breakfast items and is right off 95 in Stamford. It has diner in the name, but it is not a traditional tristate diner. http://www.citylimitsdiner.com/

Brunch in Fort Lee for aged relative

For chain breakfast food there is an Original Pancake House in Fort Lee. I have mostly eaten in the ones in DC and find them to be above average breakfast food.

There is also a good Chinese restaurant nearby - John's Shanghai over in Edgewater. I am not sure of their hours though.

Vietnamese or Eithopian in Westchester??

I haven't been there so I cannot specifically recommend it, but there is a Vietnamese restaurant in Rockland County called The Vietnam. It has been on my list of places to try for a while but I haven't made it yet. I also have no idea how large the place is and whether or not it can accommodate a larger party.

Here is their website: http://thevietnam1.com/ It isn't much, but they do have a copy of their menu.

Lunch for 12 around Rye/Port Chester/White Plains

I guess I should have updated. . .

We ended up at Rye Grill and Bar. I know, it's leaning towards the not so moderate price list. It has been a favorite of the company for some time and it is quite close to our office. Rather than take any chances on something new, we went to a place we knew. We had a really nice meal there and they took a reservation.

Part of the group had gone to PapaRazzi the night before and enjoyed their meal there. I am not a particular fan of Mary Ann's (they have the room but have always found the food to be mediocre). Eclisse had been my first choice before I found out they were closed. We had a nice company dinner there in February.

Finger Lakes

If you are going on a weekend night you might want to make a reservation. We were in the area a few weeks ago and tried to go on a Saturday and they were booked. Luckily we stuck around on the Sunday for dinner before driving home because it was a truly excellent meal. By far the best place we ate while we were there.

Lunch for 12 around Rye/Port Chester/White Plains

I am looking to take a group out to lunch tomorrow and need something in this area. I need to find a place that will take a reservation, can accomodate a larger group and is in the moderate price range. Any ideas?
