best sushi in honolulu
Have you guys seen the movie Jiro Dreams of Sushi? Seems like high end sushi restaurants in Tokyo are operated in a similar way that Chef Seiji runs Sasabune. Diners are actually nervous not to disrespect the chef. When we were seated at the bar, chef made eye contact and gave us a small bow which we responded to. That night his assistants were the ones actually serving the dishes with descriptions and instructions on how to eat it. After eating one of the sushi I happen to look up and Chef Seiji was watching us. I nodded my head in approval and he smiles and gave me another small bow. We went there with the idea that it would be a one time experience because of the cost but the next time we go there we will try the Japanese menu.
A fun place to eat for a rowdy, loud group of 6, approx. $20-$30 per entree? Good drinks=IMPORTANT!
Holstein is indeed very loud but good burgers and fries.
French Fries in Vegas
I liked the shoestring fries at Holsteins in the Cosmopolitan. But I'm easy.
Holsteins burgers in The Cosmopolitan
Good burgers cooked perfectly. Also liked their shoestring fries. But the place is really loud.
Kaui - Good Lunch
Try Duke's in the Kauai Marriot. Walking distance from the pier. But I'm not really sure if they were open for lunch.
Anyone have an opinion about Ricado's Italian in Pearl Kai SC, Oahu?
Been there a couple of times. Similar to Assagios and Paesano. But I really like the bread.
Utage - Okinawan and Japanese in Kapalama
I always order their goya (bittermelon) chanpuru with shoyu pork.
Hanger Steak on Oahu ?
BLT Steak in Waikiki has the hanger steak on its menu. Tasted like the one I had in New york but its not served as a steak frites (french fries on the side). I don't have to go back to Manhattan to get my hanger steak fix but BLT prices was much more expensive.
Breakfast in West End/downtown Vancouver
Have you tried the Inlets Bistro in the hotel? We stayed at the Blue Horizon for 3 days back in May and had breakfast there everyday.
Maui Delicacies
Guriguri from Tasaka in the Maui Mall. It's like a creamy sherbert and they are the only place that makes it.
Hawaii fruit & fish questions/ advice needed
I think the fish used to make misoyaki butterfish is either the black cod or sablefish. You won't get the runs with that fish The one that causes the runs if you eat too much is the escolar. I once had the escolar sushi at Tadashi's . They called it white tuna and it was not on the menu but alot of people were ordering it. We were seated at the sushi bar so we also placed an order. Since we only had one sushi each we never had any ill effects.
Good Sushi place in Otaru?
We were on a tour that gave us 2 hours to roam Otaru on our own. The first thing that we did was to have lunch at Kitano Ryoba which was across the street from the tour bus parking lot. It's a fish market /sushi restaurant. We both ordered their chirashi bowls which was quite expensive for lunch (2500 to 2800 yen) but very good. The topping was so fresh. I had the uni ikura bowl.
oysters in oahu
John Dominis Restaurant in the Ala Moana area close to Waikiki. They have an oyster bar serving several types of oysters.
OK-next question-Who has best Poke on Oahu?
My favorite place for poke is Tanioka's in Waipahu. However they didn't do so well in this blind tasting.

The Great Dairy Dilemma
Before our trip to Hokkaido we were told that we had to try their milk. Not knowing were to go we bought and drank small glass bottles from the refrigerated section of our hotel sundry store during our stay. The clerk said it was from a Hokkaido dairy. Tasted almost cream-like unlike the watered down stuff we get back at home.
Uni/Kani, etc. near Renaissance Hotel Sapporo?
We stayed at the Renaissance this past May. The hotel is not close to any good places to eat but if you don't mind walking there is a fine dining crab place specializing in Kani nabe. Its about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the hotel by crossing the Toyohira bridge and staying on your right. I think the restaurant is named Kani Shogun. As for uni try taking another 10 minute walk to the Nijo Market. There's a vendor that sells live uni and he will prepare it right there for you to eat with a small spoon. Delicious, can't get much fresher than that. There also a restaurant in the hotel called Hanagi that we had a traditional kyoto style kaiseki dinner.
Las Vegas strip $300.00 tasting menu for two
I need suggestions for the best fine dining restaurant on the Strip that serves a chef's or tasting menu. I'm willing to spend around $300.00 which includes a tip and a couple of glasses of wine. That works out that the dinner would cost about $120 per person. Thought about Alex but I can use that extra cash for gambling.
La Bonne Soupe Reopens!
Good news. First place that we ate at during our trip to Manhattan last year.
Hanger Steak on Oahu ?
Just got back from Manhattan and while there I had for lunch a hanger steak with fries medium rare at the Landmarc Restaurant in the Time-Warner Center It was the best tasting piece of beef I've ever had. It's similar to a flank steak in texture in that its chewy and grainy but it s a long strip of meat located near the kidneys of the cattle. It had a strong beef flavor that I enjoyed. I've tried checking the internet to see if there are any restaurants on Oahu that serves this cut of beef. Gordon Biersch and the 12th Ave Grill were listed on Google as having this steak on their menu but when I checked their latest menu online it's not on it anymore.
Anybody know of any restaurant that serves this hard to find cut of beef?
Angelo's coal oven....or...?
We ate at John's in Times Square. Not a far walk from Carnegie Hall. Very large tourist trap pizza place but the pizza was was so good with a glass of beer.
