WOW 50 bones for a dozen. Think I'll stick with simple and plain Little Nicky's
Grand Electric
Not really. They always SAY 2 or 3 hours, and it ends up being 30 min to an hr.
ISO Best Pasta Sauce commonly available in Toronto
The Simply Natural organic brand is quite good, IMO. Their red wine version is nice
Banh Mi Boys
Pretty much echo what others have said. I dropped in at 2pm this week, and even then, there was a 6-person line-up. Had the pork belly banh mi- pretty tasty. My sandwich was huge, and only cost $6.
The way they have structured the ordering and paying process is not great. Almost every person ahead of me in line had to remind various staff people what they were having. It was obvious that several people's orders had been missed or forgotten. I'll chalk it up to growing pains.
Their menu is more expensive than the older Viet places up on Dundas, but a little edgier and quite good.
Mini Food Truck Eats Friday, Nov 18, 2011 @ Yonge & Gould
The lines were moving VERY slowly. If Toronto would just get its act together, and allow these places to operate all the time, all over, we wouldn't have to have rinky-dink food truck "festivals"..
Agave Y Aguacate - delicious Mexican
Dunno if I would call that patio 'beautiful'. It's just a gravel lot with some plastic tables, with the sun beating down on you. I guess it's authentic, at least
Apple Fritter Search!
Pakmode, you've nailed it. Zehrs stores seem to have been redone to varying degrees across Ontario. I can certainly vouch for the apple fritters at the Zehrs in Kincardine, which is one of the more old-timey locations. They are exactly like the photo, and have more than a couple calories. Super good!
Excellent experience at the Auld Spot on College.
I agree 100%. This place has surprisingly excellent food. Never been disappointed.
Woodlot
I had a similar experience, but with a dude server. In our case, the 3 of us sat at the communal table, with plenty of room around us for maneuvering. Our server came off as being a little aloof and uninterested in serving us. We had to pour our own water and wine, and getting the bill was a bit of a production.
Beer Bistro..Worth a Visit?
Tried this place last night at about 6:30 PM, before catching "2001: A Space Odyssey" at TIFF.
In short, the space is nice, with a good divide between bar and resto areas, while still feeling open. The service was alright, but it was packed, so that's fine.
Beer was good- quite a long list, as well as some special Winter-types. No problem, there.
The food, however, was .. hrm. We started by sharing a 'potato skins' order, with smoked salmon which was quite good. Good freshness and hot/cool balance. The GF had the crab quesadilla, which was okay, if a little too packed with cheddar-type cheese. It wasn't great. Worst of all was my main dish, which was the broiled bass with a 'bean stew' or something. It was terrible. Plain and slightly musky fish, on top of a large pile of bland and tough fava beans, apparently dumped directly out of a can, and onto the plate. NOT tasty. I considered sending it back, but I generally don't do that, and I didn't have time to wait for a replacement plate.
Our server was quite nice, but never once asked how our meal was. Not good. Instead of making a stink, I decided to post here. I can't imagine BB would change anything; they seem to be doing quite well.
LF: Recs for a Large Restaurant/Party Room for Holiday Party near Bay/Wellesley
My work is getting a late start on booking a holiday party venue. We will be about 30 people total, and would like to book a place near our place of work at Bay and Wellesley area. Walking distance preferred, or near subway stop.
Does anyone have any suggestions of a venue that is moderately priced, such as a decent buffet or a-la-carte lunch w/ some drink capabilities in the afternoon? Veggie options/comfortable atmosphere are also needed.
A private party room- type of thing would be great, if we have luck in finding one that's available at this point.
Any suggestions? Any good/bad experiences with restaurants/hotels/corporate venues in the area? Anyone else caught in the unfortunate role of organizing such an event !?
Thanks! :-)
Disgraceland for dinner?
It's basically a dirty-arse hipster bar with pretty marginal food IMO.
Mother Dumplings - new location
Went here the other day. All round, pretty good. We ordered three items to share, since it was an afternoon snack: green onion pancake, veggie dumplings, and pork/veggie bun.
The first two items came right away, but then we waited and waited and waited for the bun. It took like 25 minutes. Meanwhile, the kitchen staff sat down for lunch.
We eventually got the last item, but it took forever. Clearly, it had gotten lost somewhere in the shuffle. Graciously, the server checked with the owner and comped the bun item, without us even asking for it, which was nice.
I'm sure this is a hiccup with the transition, and otherwise, was quite tasty and fast.
Where to buy fresh pasta in the downtown core?
I'm looking for a good fresh pasta vendor in the downtown area. Where are fellow 'Hounds sourcing such a thing?
Elsewhere on the board, someone mentioned a stall at the SLM. Any other popular or particularly enjoyable pasta makers around that have a regular supply?
Dinner on Roncey
You'll never have a problem with portion size at old Cafe Polonez! :-S

Vegan Eats in Bloor W / Junction?
I think The Beet has a selection of vegan/veggie offerings. We had a brunch-type meal there recently and it was quite good, although a tad bit on the pricey side.
Kitchener/Waterloo
It's too bad, since it's a cute little place in a good location. But yeah, it has always been bad.
Where can I dine near Dundas and Brock that isn't Lula Lounge?
Sage West closed awhile back. The owners closed it because they wanted to buy the building their cafe is located in, on McCaul. Buisness was pretty slow, as I understand.
Kinda too bad, but it was sort of a weird place. Never seemed to get its footing
Kitchener/Waterloo
Three Kretans is amazing! I don't live in KW anymore, but I miss this place.
I would skip Langdon Hall- at least for dinner rather than the tea you mention. It's overpriced, and quite overrated..

Caplansky's - You have got to be kidding me!
I ate at Schuartz's on St. Laurent this past weekend, and the smoked meat sandwich was very similar in form to Caplanski's, EXCEPT the meat was like butter. So soft and pleasant, not at all chewy. Just meat, mustard and bread. Perfect.
Haisai - Now Open
I got a quick tour of Haisai when I was at Eigensinn a few weeks back. I didn't eat there, but the decor is CRAZY. Lots of broken tile mosaic and rough wooden furnishings. Bizarre and fascinating place.
They also sell jars of preserves and things in the store section, but they cost like $22 or something..
Where to buy Iwatani tabletop gas stove?
You might want to try the STOP restaurant supply place heading into Kitchener from Guelph. I seem to recall them selling a device like this, with the shampoo-sized gas canister than fits into the side.
Caplansky's - You have got to be kidding me!
I wouldn't call myself a "hater"- I've only been once. I didn't really encounter the over-salting people speak of, but the meat in the sandwich .. just wasn't that good. It was stringy and tough, despite having been ordered med-fatty.
Maybe it was an off day, but it was one mediocre $10 sandwich.
Best pizza in Toronto?
I feel the same way about Libretto pizza. The crust is this strange chewy-mushy thing that doesn't do it for me.
Big Green Egg in Toronto
The Home Hardware on Roncesvalles has one in the window. Not sure what size it is, but it's $1,099.
Curry In A Hurry-Bloor and Lansdowne
Isn't this just a stripmall chain? There was one near my school years back in Waterloo, in the student plaza and it was awful.
I think it was a reheat centrally-made generic curries-type of operation.
