New Pizza Place Coming to NW Calgary/Royal Oak
Ooohhh! Sounds great! I am craving good pizza for years! Please let that be good! Great location for where we live too.
Cucina - new bistro opening soon in 8th Ave Place
I saw the signs yesterday in the new 8th Ave Place building (used to be Penny Lane). It says market & bistro and lists sandwiches, coffee, procuitto, rotisserie, wine and more.
Sounds interesting. According to the 8th Ave concierge they moved the opening date to June.
I am carefully hopeful that this is going to be as amazing as it sounds!
Anybody know more about this?
Top Chef Canada, Season 2, Episode 1 (spoilers)
I am not 100% sure but on the US TC they show every single dish even in the first few episodes right?
Why don't they do that on TC Canada? It drives me insane that they only talk about the top 3 dishes and the 3 worst. What about all the others in between? For me that destroys a challenge completely.

Mozzarella cheese curd in Calgary
Not quite sure what you mean with curd but the mozzarella (in brine) that comes closest to the cheese I know from Italy is this one: http://www.saputo.ca/OurCheeses/Detail.aspx?id=249 and I buy it at Superstore. $5.50 or something, not cheap but ok.
They have a buffalo mozza on their homepage too but I haven't found that in store yet.

Buffalo Mozza at Costco? Gotta go and get some. Didn't know they had any.
Feta - Superstore has Krinos and they do have a sheep one. Which I consider real feta that's how I know it from Greece. Great stuff!
I also had some smoked Gouda (?) from Costco at a recent party and loved that one!

Anybody heard about Borgo Trattoria yet?
I finally got to try Borgo and I really liked it. The food is good and the place is very nice. It is very Italian I find and it almost felt like a short trip to Italy. My colleagues found the concept of small bites to share a bit weird and the portions small. Coming from Europe I must say it is quite typical to have smaller portions, especially for lunch. Also the desserts were less sweet than what you usually get here but again not surprising in true Italian cuisine.
We had the risotto balls, pork & fennel balls, calamari, focaccia with oil, beef skewers, cheese platter and the fennel salad, as well as clam linguini, some other pasta dish with porchetta and peas and for dessert pistacchio and vanilla ice cream and canoli plus a few illy coffees. I thought the food was excellent and the service great. A little pricier but totally worth it.
I will definitely be back and not only once. A heavenly piece of Italy in the middle of Calgary.... Just what I was looking for.

I got the email yesterday. Nice, comes with a coupon for a free sandwich.
I am more a purist so I don't think I will choose a sandwich off the menu and just get a schnitzel with a bun.
I am not happy with the pricing though. $9.75 for a schnitzel sandwich? Ouch!
Where to find Monin syrup in Calgary
Sorry for digging up an older thread but I am looking for Monin (or other) syrups in smaller bottles. Does anybody know where to find some? DT or NW would be great.
Regular sized (1 liter?) syrups are available downtown at Urban Bean by the way. They have a nice selection!
PS: They also see the pumps to top the bottles. Very handy!
Ludo Just Bites :(
It might not be the show for you. There is a lot of stuff on TV people love but I don't.
I find him funny and entertaining even when he is whining. He is passionate, creative and very likeable. Krissy seems to be perfect for him, keeping him in line and making things possible.
His French/English is very cute and I am not a big fan of the French (stereotyping here).

Oh man, I agree!!! Jennifer should have dropped out way earlier. I was wondering if the judges had a crush on here. Somehow she seemed to be quite hyped. At least on TV it was not convincing.
My favourite (from the audition on) was Christian. I never understood why they slammed his vegetarian dish without even tasting it.
Adrian was too up and down for me.
best pizza in calgary?
I am just back from lunch at Double Zero and I am not impressed. The place is loud and I had the AC blowing straight down my neck. The waiters were confused about who is serving our table. Finally figured out and we ordered a caprese salad as a starter to share and two pizzas. The pizzas arrived luke warm, no starter. Only after we asked they remembered and it took another 10 min. or so to get the salad. The pizza arrived on a stand which got placed on the other side of the table. Very inconvienent. The pizza was ok, the crust very chewy and no flavour at all. The toppings good. The salad was ok but I don't think it was buffalo mozzarella, it was just bland. We asked to wrap the leftover pizza and the waitress seriously ask if she can put both together in one box. Huh?
Anyways, she didn't say anything but they didn't charge us for the salad.
I won't be back that's for sure.
Prairie Food Trucks - A Possibility?
We went there early (around 11:20) and they were already serving food. We picked the shortest line which was for JoJo's BBQ. Nice pulled pork with coleslaw. A little small for $6 though. Then we lined up for Fries at Fries'n'Dolls (or is it Dolls'n'Fries?) and that was very slow. Ok fries though.
AlleyBurger line up was insane! It already went around the corner of the block when we got there.
Where can I buy AWESOME veggie burger patties?
I used to eat the Meatless Burgers from President's Choice when I was a vegetarian. They are good but lots of calories.

Great thanks! I ordered the machine at Costco (best price) and hopefully will receive it next week. London Drugs has a sale going but not all flavours. I will check Home Outfitter.
