Sao Paulo - Help! Where should I eat, visit for foodie experience
In the scheme of things it wasn't too expensive. We had dinner for 6, including cocktails and dessert for aout 650 Real's. I've been to churrascaria's from Porto Alegre to Belo Horizonte and many in the US. This was by far the best. I went to a place called Baby Beef in Sao Paulo in July that was terrible and much more expensive than Barbacoa.
There was really no dish I didn't like. All the cuts of meat were tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. You'll have to ask for the cooked cheese. Also if you like dessert, the strawberry flambe was much better than the Papya Cream.
Hopefully I can go once more before I go back to the US this week.
Sao Paulo - Help! Where should I eat, visit for foodie experience
Went to Barbacoa last week. What an awesome place.
Amici Pizza and Bistro
I was there on Friday night for the first time. My wife and I had much of the same items (the menu at Amici is kind of limited which I think is a good thing).
I would add that the Mussels were very good. They were large, plump and perfectly cooked in a very nice tomato broth. Overall the restaurant was a hit, with one small exception.
I ordered Meatballs with the Bucatini and had two problems with them. First, they were very tough and rubbery. Second, they contained Lamb. I am not a fan of lamb, and would not have ordered them if the menu had shown that Lamb was in the meatballs.
Overall however, it was a very good experiance for my wife and I. I would definitly recomend.
Un-pasteurized Apple Cider
No go at the Farmers Market today. I didn't see any cider let alone teh kind I was looking for. It' stoo bad.
Un-pasteurized Apple Cider
I'll be there Saturday morning. I'll report back.
Thank you all for the tips.
Un-pasteurized Apple Cider
We just bought a gallon yesterday from Aamodt's. It's not bad, but it's not what I am looking for. I have not been to the St. Paul Farmers market in the fall, bujt I may take a trip next weekend.
Un-pasteurized Apple Cider
I realize this may be considered heresy, but I am looking for good old fashioned un-filtered and un-pasteurized apple cider in the twin cities.
I miss the thick syrupy cider I could get in Michigan. I’m willing to travel an hour or so in any direction. Any place still make this stuff?
Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives (Canadian Version)
Another restaurant ala DDD is the Granary Swiss Restuarant in Van Kleek Hill. It's been years since I went there, and I don't know if it's still in business, but it was my favorite place to go when I was in town. If it's still open, I would definitly recomend it.

Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives (Canadian Version)
Many would disagree that this place should be included on this list, but I think Schwartz's smoked meat is exactly what the OP is looking for. Its small, dinerish with a great reputation and great food.
Have fun and please report back.

Auto museum road trip-Auburn, Shipshewana, South Bend, Hickory Corners, Lansing, Flint
The Blue Gate Inn in Shipshewana isn't bad, but I really enjoy the Das Dutchman Esseshaus in Middelbury. It's only a few miles from Shipshewana, and I really enjoy the food. Make sure you are really hungry before you go though.

Lunch in Woodbury/Maplewood
I've had a few good meals at Aperitif. They just started serving lunch a few weeks ago. Although it's not my favorite place, Sunsets may also be a good choice.

1/2 price wine nights?
I don't think they have this deal all night, but there are certain hours at Rinata that they sell their wine at 1/2 price.

Has anyone eaten at the Machine Shed in Lake Elmo?
I usually go to the Machine Shed for Breakfast, it has been a long time since I was there for dinner. It's not a bad place, it is definitly kid freindly. You won't break the bank there, but you should know the food while not bad, can be a little non-descript. For a good analogy, think Cracker Barrel. Given the age range, it might not be a bad place.
Depending on your budget, and the type of food you want there are some alternatives:
1) Lake Elmo Inn
2) Sunsets - A nice bar, but a restaurant attached
3) Ray J's - A sports bar with a restaurant attached
4) Axels Bonfire - Woodbury - They have a room in the back you may be able to reserve
Good luck and enjoy.

steel cut oatmeal help
This is very close to how I make it, I bring it just to a simmer, then let it sit over night. In the morning, I bring to a good boil for 5 min or so. I then store in a rubbermaid container for a week.
One other thing, I don't add salt until the morning when I am boiling it. I seem to recall that adding salt to early will affect the creaminess.
(MSP) Best buffalo wings?
I agree with the Ray J receomendation. My wife gets freaked out at the size of the wing beacause they are served whole, but I really like them that way.
FOGO DE CHAO/ hennepin Ave/ downtown minneapolis [Moved from Minneapolis-St. Paul Board]
Opinions vary on Fogo de Chao. I have been to several including those in Brazil. For the best value go at lunch.
The steak quality is not bad, although there are far better pieces of meat in the twin cities, You get alot of steak for the money. In my opinion, the salad bar is second to none. It has a great combination of vegies, meats and cheeses.

Pinot Noir (or other reds) Recs
It seems I can get Mirassou in MSP for 9 bucks a bottle. I'll have to add it to the list.
Pinot Noir (or other reds) Recs
I have been pretty lucky so far, mostly at France 44. I have been able to get samples of many of the above recomendations, and I am drinking my way through them and others. So far, I'll admit its been hit and miss. We really liked two of the three Ripassa's we've tried. We really didn't like the Siduri. I have two different Fess Parker PN to try soon.
I agree about the pricing. We bought two cases of David Bruce from the winery at $24/btl + shipping vs $47/btl locally. I've signed up for a couple of mailing lists, but we really bought a bunch of wine and I need to slow down a while until we go though it.
My three favorite stores locally are France 44, Surdycks and the Cellars. Haskells is ok, but it doesn't feel as comfy, and I have not found anything interesting there.
Again, thank you all for your recomendations. Once I get through the wine I have, I'll be on the hunt again.
Need recs for Bloomington within walking distance of hotel
The options are really limited. Kincaids is .8 miles away, but there is alot of traffic. It may be walkable but though.
Good ethnic buffets?
I have always liked the buffet at Boca Chica.

Aperitifi
I went to Apertif last week for my wifes B-Day. We had a very nice meal. the food was well prepared and came out quickly and at the right temperature. The prices seemed reasonable to me given the food quality and quantity. They had a nice wine list with reasonable prices as well there. All in all I will definitly be going back.

New Buffalo Mich - Looking for a great bakery and other good eats
We will be spending a weekend in New Buffalo later this year and am wondering if there are any really good bakeries nearby. I am willing to travel 20 - 30 minutes to get really great fresh breads and rolls every day.
I am also interested in any other good restaurants or grocery stores in the area.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Pinot Noir (or other reds) Recs
Thank you for the Ripassa reccomendation It was awesome. We bought a 2006 Zenato Ripassa and I am just finishing it. I'll be buying more. All I can say is wow. I bought another Ripassa as well that we will be trying.
I also bought a bunch of Pinot Nior: Fess Parker, Siduri, Adelsheim and Domian Serene from Oregon. I'll get into thos in the coming weeks.
Restaurants everyone loves--except you
I'm not sure "everybody" loves it, but after multiple trips I can honestly say that I can't stand Sunsets. The only thing I like there is the Chicken and Wild Rice soup, which is very good, nothing else agrees with me.
Choosing good and fruity red wine - need recommendations
Try David Bruce Petite Shirah. I can get it at Costco for $16, and it's really nice.
Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives might be returning to Minnesota
I'd like to see El Burrito Mercado

Pinot Noir (or other reds) Recs
Well I found a couple of Pinot's to try. I just purchased a 2007 Adelsheim and 2006 Fess Parker Santa Rita Hills. I was just looking through a local wine store and these jumped out at me. Found a bargain while I was there also, they were discontinuing my favorite Cab (2006 Boomtown) at a very good price. I bought them out.
Now that my David Bruce Sonoma coast and Russian River Valley is here, I better get drinking. I'm not sure what part I enjoy more, the hunt or the capture.....
I need some wine for a dinner party this weekend, so I will try to get my hands on a bottle of Siduri also which I know I can get locally as well as some different Valpocella.
Pinot Noir (or other reds) Recs
Thank you for the replies. I'll start looking for these in my area (MSP).
Pinot Noir (or other reds) Recs
For the last few months, my wife and I have been working to develop a palet and an appreciation for wines. being the good engineer I am, I am logging all teh wince we dring into a spreadsheet so I can remember what I like and what I didn't and why.
One wine that really stands out for us is the 2006 David Bruce Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. We have had a couple of bottles, and liked it so much I have two cases coming from the winery. Since Man doesn't live on David Bruce alone, I need some help finding other Pinot Noirs that have similar characteristics. The David Bruce has a smooth supple mouthfeel and is very balanced which we like. A close second is a 2007 Valpolicella from Zenato which is equally awesome.
My price point is $20 - $40 although for the right wine I would go higher. Thank you for your help and your great advice.

Aperitifi
Tried getting in a couple of weeks ago, but it was too busy. We have a reservation for my wife's b-day at the end of the month.
