West Palm Beach

Add in Verdea Restaurant (http://verdearestaurant.com) to the list. Chef James King has created a seasonal menu, embracing farm-to-table cuisine that rivals the best restaurants in Miami. It's a wine bar/restaurant that offers a wine list of 250 wines available by the glass or by the bottle. Kubo is also great, though it's closed for the summer. The chef, Roy Villacrusis created the menu at Dirty Martini that opened last week at Downtown at the Gardens.

Any recent restaurant closures or openings in Broward area?

SAIA is opening on March 11th at the new B Ocean Fort Lauderdale. They will feature modern SE Asian cuisine by Master Chef Chenkosorn, formerly of the Delano.

Looking for fun night out & great food in Palm Beach, or within 30mins drive

Buccan, Clay Conley's new restaurant at 350 S County Rd in Palm Beach, is supposed to open up this weekend with a small plates menu. Casa Mia in Jupiter offers a high-quality Italian food with a neighborhood vibe. Everything is priced under $20, and you'll feel right at home. After dinner, head over to Too Bizarre, find a comfy couch and enjoy a glass of wine.

Looking for mid range restaurant in Palm Beach area with Good Food - Fine Dining atmosphere not required

Buccan is supposed to open up this weekend in Palm Beach, and will feature a small plate menu from Clay Conley (formerly of Azul at the Mandarin Oriental in Miami). It's located at 350 S. County Rd in Palm Beach. (http://buccanpalmbeach.com) Chef Dean Max from 3030 Ocean in Fort Lauderdale just took over the restaurant at the former Solu location in Singer Island. Larry Lavalley, who used to be with the David Manero Restaurant Group will be the Exec. Chef. It will be called 3800 Ocean. I'm not sure when the menu will change, but it is sure to fill the void of being a great seafood restaurant with a view in PBG.

Uchi or Uchiko

I'll be visiting Austin next weekend and I have to choose between dinner at Uchi or Uchiko? What would you recommend? Both of their menus look fantastic, and I've heard that Uchiko offers many dishes that were originally at Uchi. Is there much of a difference?

With Charles Passy out, the Palm Beach Post's new food critic, Liz Balmaseda, just posted her first review and gave Cabo Flats an A-/A- review. Well deserved or not? Thoughts http://www.pbpulse.com/dining/2010/04/07/cabo-flats-in-palm-beach-gardens-offers-casual-dining-yet-hot/

Palm Beach County - New or Coming Soon

Did Mister Milano ever open up in Palm Beach Gardens? http://www.mistermilano.com/ I saw this in the Mirasol shopping plaza a few months ago, but haven't heard about it since. Also, The Office in Delray should be opening any day now.

Best Thai in Palm Beach County (Central)?

I'm a huge fan of Talay Thai. Chef/Owner Charlie will visit your table, make you an authentic dish if you'd like and has a great Thai Basil Martini. Another favorite of mine, though more casual than Talay Thai is Peppermint Thai in Royal Palm Beach.

Anything new or coming to Dade late '09?

Just saw a sign in the design district about Dacra/Scott Engelman (the same people that were behind Brosia) were opening up a new place. Does anyone have details?

Delray Gastropub "The Office" - David Manero / Mark Militello - Coming Soon

I really wanted to like these. I tried the pomegranate blueberry. It was too sweet for me to even finish. The texture was a little runny, but the sweetness was what did it for me.

Miami Restaurant Recommendation

I was on open table the other day and noticed that Manny's turned into Miami Chophouse. Does anyone know when this happened?

Canyon Ranch Grill (long review)

Had a great experience at Canyon Ranch. Little did I know that the night I chose to go down was the same night Miami was going to get killed with storms so I can't really report back on the atmosphere, etc as there weren't many people inside. I must say I was happy with the food at the restaurant. The drinks, small plates and entrees were spot on, though the accompaniments were lacking in flavor.
We started off with the Poblano Pepper with Shrimp and Goat Cheese. The portion was small, like we expected, but the flavor was extraordinary. The spiciness of the pepper combined with the creaminess of the goat cheese and the citris flavors of the shrimp combined well - this was our favorite dish of the evening. You must love goat cheese though, as it is the first thing you taste when you bite into this dish.

We opted for the Sustainably Caught Chilean Sea Bass ($24) and the Austalian Lamb Chops ($24) for our main courses. The Chilean Sea Bass was served in a spicy pineapple broth and cool Key Lime cucumber. It was served with some sweet potatoes. The fish was served perfectly. It was simple, yet flavorful and the fresh ingredients came through. The potatoes were lacking and didn’t have much flavor to them. The other dish we tried was the Austalian Lamb Chops, due to our server’s recommendation. Once again, the meat was done to perfection - juicy and melted in your mouth. There was a match made in heaven with the fruit relish that it came with, though the roasted plaintains were chewy and tough and were the only thing we left on the plate.

We skipped dessert so I’m not sure how they are, but I didn’t feel like I missed out.

The food won't satisfy your craving for rich food, but if you're looking for fresh, healthy cuisine, you are sure to find it here. If you'd like to look at my full review, check can check out my blog: http://southflorida.dinemag.net/restaurants/nourish-yourself-at-canyon-ranch-grill/

Canyon Ranch Grill - Miami Beach

Went to Canyon Ranch over the weekend and thought it was quite tasty.

When we arrived, we were handed the wine list and drink menu. The list was full of organic and sustainable wine options and a creative twist of cocktails. It's important to note that this is the only Canyon Ranch property where alcohol is even served. (Miami loves their wine!) I started off with a lavendar vodka with blueberries cocktail. Flavors were delicious and I felt like I was being healthy, while sipping on my cocktail. For me, there was a bit too many parts to this cocktails and I would have enjoyed it more strained, but a nice diversion from something I'd typically order.

The menu at Canyon Ranch consists of a large number of small plate options (ranging from $6 - $15; 60 - 205 calories), simple eats (or their a la carte menu), entrees with suggested pairings ($17 - $24; 280 - 490 calories) and desserts. Although the portions sizes tend to be small (5 oz for proteins), you do have the option of doubling your protein.

Although many small plates sounded tempting (Roasted Pineapple with Duck Prosciutto, Tuna Carpaccio and Saffron Steamed Clams), we decided on the Poblano Pepper with Shrimp and Goat Cheese.

When I came to the restaurant, I thought that it would be mostly focused on vegetarian, seafood and poultry dishes with a few meat dishes thrown in, but the menu was well-rounded. We opted for the Sustainably Caught Chilean Sea Bass ($24) and the Austalian Lamb Chops ($24). The Chilean Sea Bass was served in a spicy pineapple broth and cool Key Lime cucumber. It was served with some sweet potatoes. The fish was served perfectly. It was simple, yet flavorful and the fresh ingredients came through. The potatoes were lacking and didn't have much flavor to them. The other dish we tried was the Austalian Lamb Chops, due to our server's recommendation. Once again, the meat was done to perfection - juicy and melted in your mouth. There was a match made in heaven with the fruit relish that it came with, though the roasted plaintains were chewy and tough and were the only thing we left on the plate.

Canyon Ranch Grill (long review)

Just booked my stay there for next week. Can't wait. I've heard some mixed reviews, but am excited to find out for myself. Do they have a changing menu or is it usually fairly consistent?

Kitcen 305 Sunny Isles

I've been there. The food was nothing to talk about, though they got a new chef since i've been there. It seems like they are looking for a club-type atmosphere, rather than focus on the dining.

Dixon Li's is it good?

I'd never heard of Dixon Li's until recently. The owner is partnering up with Lirim Jacobi from Taverna Opa in CityPlace and City Pizza and they will be opening an Asian restaurant in CityPlace within the next year. Glad to hear that Dixon Li's has great food, and am excited about the new restaurant.

Restaurant Recommendations at/near Ritz Carlton, Palm Beach

Have you ever been to Spoto's (either on PGA or downtown WPB)? Also, Kee Grill and their associated restaurants - Coola Fishbar, etc. have always been fantastic.
