Best "nicer" bar for local beer and a good burger

Thanks to everyone for their consideration of the question and their great suggestions

My question has to do with not knowing these people and what they consider an appropriate place for a burger and a beer. They're here for a meeting. I want them to have a nice night in a nice place without a wait or a noisy crowd on a Wednesday night and highlight our city. I want a walkable neighborhood that won't scare them if they don't usually hang out after dark.

Every place mentioned sounds great. I know there are tons of neighborhood bars with good food in Philly. I just don't know these people.

Best "nicer" bar for local beer and a good burger

I am looking for local beer list, not necessarily a huge list.

Best "nicer" bar for local beer and a good burger

City Tap is really loud and Khyber, while good, isn't what I would call "nicer"

I didn't want something that we had to take a cab both there and back. That's the one problem with Dock Street and Standard Tap both.

Best "nicer" bar for local beer and a good burger

Really quick, someone from out of town wants to try local beer and eat a burger. I need a place that is in Center City, West Philly or Old City; nicer and has both.

I was thinking Dandelion because I love the dog bar. Other ideas were Dock Street, Good Dog and Pub and Kitchen. The bars have around 3 local beers available.

Whiskey Village is out because of space issues.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

The new-new food hall at The Plaza (not Todd English's)

Hi
A group, with two kids who are Eloise freaks, are coming this Sunday. We can't afford tea so we were thinking of having lunch in the food hall. Since the expansion is this an okay place to take a group? I can't tell if the seating is beyond counter from the site or the conversations on Chowhound.
Thank you

Dim Sum on Sunday need a place with reservations

Thank you all. I love Dim Sum Garden but it is way to small for a table of 13 and has that bus issue. I think my family will be fine with Imperial or Joy Tsin Lau. Is Imperial Inn significantly better?

Dim Sum on Sunday need a place with reservations

I am taking 12 people ranging in age from 2.5 to 85 to dim sum at noon this Sunday. (It's not my idea.) Based on those ages a reservation would be nice.

I know Philly isn't as good as NYC or SF so don't worry.

Having read the range of opinions on the the major dim sum joints in Chinatown I am undecided. I thought the reservation options could be a good limiter.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

Hotel Marlowe update

A year ago someone posted asking for restaurants near the Hotel Marlowe in Boston. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/730958

I am looking to update that list. I want something good for Sunday and Friday night next week. Romantic would be nice but I am willing to forgo romance for great food. Seafood is awesome, really good Asian is always appreciated. I am not a huge fan of Italian but any other cuisine is great. Local is fun, good beer/brewery is always a plus. Cheap to expensive. Just not over the top expensive. I have had great food in Boston before and I am sure I will again. Thanks in advance!

I am looking for a Winter Farmer's Market for this Saturday March 12th

Thanks for the suggestions! You're all right that this is a bad time to be localvores

I live in Mt Airy and the Chestnut Hill Growers Market is open, sadly, only every other week. I knew about Clark but didn't know about Rittenhouse and Fitler. Booth Corner's sounds really fun! My sister is in Wayne, so Phoenixville it is. She is really into being outside. Don't ask me why.

Oh and even their winter market beat the two near me to shame. Lucky people who live in Phoenixville!

Hi
My sister really wants to go to one. She usually works on Saturday.

I know Phoenixville is open. Any others? Outdoor would be nicest. Thanks in advance.

[Ottawa] I need a Saturday night restaurant

Hi,
A friend has asked me to recommend a place but I have having trouble limiting my search on the board to the city and not the rue. I have the NYTimes 36 hours in Ottawa as a resource, http://travel.nytimes.com/2007/08/26/.... Are those places still open and still recommended? They only have one night. What shouldn't they miss?

Thank you!

Matzo (or Matzoh) Brie near Mt Airy?

I know I can get it downtown at the Terminal but I don't know where to get it closer to home. Anyone know a good place? Thanks for any suggestions!

Where to eat after seeing "Julie and Julia?"

I am asking for advice on a reasonable priced French restaurant near a movie theater playing "Julie and Julia"

Almost every review says I will be hungry after I see this movie. I was wondering if anyone had thought about where to eat really good French food after seeing the movie?

I read "My Life in France" and read Julie Powell's blog before it was a book. I loved them both.

Thank you for any advice your can give.

Has anyone tried it? I just read about it in the Zagat's e-newsletter.

Bumblefish?

This was on a Zagats email. Has anyone been there?

Center City lunch crowds pack Bumblefish, a simple, built-for-speed Japanese cafeteria just off Market Street; an outpost of a bugeoning national chain, it's a budget-friendly option offering raw and cooked creations, many with clever names – how can you not smile over an 'Eeling Groovy Roll or a Livin' La Vida Lobster Roll?

Where to find traditional Jewish Bagels

In the Daily New there was a Secret of Cheltenham section and it had a food section that had a bagel place-here's the text.

Rolings Bakery, 7848 Montgomery Ave. Elkins Park
215-635-5524
A rare Delaware Valley purveyor of authentic Flatbush bagels. "They're super chewy. You have to like that chewy thing," Green advises. "But they're very, very good."

Breakfast on a Thursday in West Philly

I looked on the board and either I didn't have the right search terms or no one eats breakfast worth talking about in West Philly.

I need a sit down place that nice. I asked one person and they said if I had a car to go to Yock's at 57th and Chestnut for grits. I already know about Marathon and the Diner. What else is out there?

It needs to be open by 8:30.

Thanks for any help you can give!
