Bham area - Let's talk barbecue

I live in Tuscaloosa and work in Birminham and I have eaten BBQ my whole life in both places. Archibald's in Tuscaloosa/Northport is definitely worth checking out! It's still family-run and -owned and the food, from ribs to chicken to sides, is divine.

Reasonably Priced Eats in Chicago

Thank you so much! This was really helpful and I will definitely do my homework before hitting town!

Reasonably Priced Eats in Chicago

I am coming to Chicago the end of July for what will essentially be a day-and-a-half. Will be staying in a hotel on the Loop - can you recommend reasonably-priced places that will give me a taste of the town? I am pretty adventurous, food-wise, and having never been to Chicago, would like to see what it's all about (on a budget, of course).

Taste the Mediteranean in Birmingham

Had lunch yesterday at The Pita Hut on Hwy 280 (114 Highway 280, Birmingham - (205) 980-7482) and just wanted to rave. The tabbouleh salad was excellent (full of parsley and tomatoes) and I had one of the best flavored kefteh (a ground beef and lamb patty with spices) ever, served over rice with grilled vegetables.Every sandwich comes with homemade hummus and pita chips (also homemade).

I have been slowly working my way down the menu. The owner, Joseph, is wonderful and always in the kitchen, overseeing and tweaking the menu. He will even cook to order and cater.

On site, they also sell a small selection of groceries, including falafel mix, desserts, tahini, grape leaves, exotic teas and jams, etc.
