MUST VISIT restaurants in Seattle

I'm going to be in town for work and will have limited time for meals -- it is my first time in Seattle so I want to eat well! What are the MUST VISIT places in Seattle? Where is the BEST salmon? What other local specialties should I not miss?

Atlantic City dinner restaurant? Cool dessert spot?

Awesome -- THANK YOU!

Anyone every been to Chef Vola's? Sounds like an interesting experience. People on Yelp rave about their food (but I don't always trust Yelpers...).

Atlantic City dinner restaurant? Cool dessert spot?

Heading to Atlantic City just for a night for my husband's birthday. Looking for a good place to take him for dinner and a fun dessert place (it could be the same place). I'm looking for *really* good food -- doesn't have to be fancy, but it must be really really good!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Ideas for stuffed tomatoes?

I just made Cat Cora's recipe for stuffed tomatoes... so good! Here is the post on them that I wrote for my blog: http://www.eatniks.com/2010/06/remembering-crete-with-stuffed-tomatoes/

Valentine's Day with Kids

My sister and her family are going to be in town for Valentine's Day this year. I don't want to disturb other people's romantic dinners by taking the kids to a nice dinner, but I want to do SOMETHING with them. I was thinking either brunch or an early dinner (like 5:00). I'm looking for somewhere with good food that the adults will enjoy but also with kid-friendly fare. Any suggestions?

DC, VA suburbs, or MD as far as Annapolis or Baltimore will be fine.

Thanks!

Replacing mustard?

That's a great suggestion... I like the pickle juice idea. Thanks!

Replacing mustard?

That sounds delicious! I was going to make turkey meatballs with cranberry... I bet the same thing would work with cranberry sauce and BBQ sauce. Thanks!

Replacing mustard?

I have a cocktail meatball recipe that calls for Dijon mustard in the sauce. My husband HATES mustard (I know he probably won't even taste it) and wouldn't eat the meatballs if he knew it was in there.

What can I replace the mustard with to get the same zing?

Looking for restaurant recommendations in Sedona area

Thanks, everyone! I just did a post on a few of the places that we tried: http://eatniks.wordpress.com/2009/10/02/arizona-is-for-mexican-food-lovers/

Los Betos, Elote Cafe, Coffee Pot Diner in Sedona (and another place whose name I don't remember that wasn't good)... 15 Quince in Jerome... and Chino Bandido in Phoenix... all terrific!

We also went to Cowboy Club which was good, Indian Gardens for sandwiches on fresh baked bread, and El Tovar in the Grand Canyon. I have to say that El Tovar was fine (and I don't doubt it is the best in that area), but not amazing.

Looking for restaurant recommendations in Sedona area

My husband and I are going to be in Sedona next week and are looking for restaurant recommendations. Specifically, we're hoping to find a classic Southwestern spot. (We're coming from Washington, DC... I don't know if we even know real Southwestern food!) We are definitely foodies, so delicious restaurants only please! ;) No need for anything fancy.

Best Jose Andres restaurant in DC

I guess everyone has their tapas strategy!

I was underwhelmed by the food in general... and certainly when asked to compare it to my experiences at Cafe Atlantico.

Best Jose Andres restaurant in DC

As long as we all agree on Cafe Atlantico's brunch, we're good!

I would have to say in general that Zaytina (or any tapas), no matter how good you think it is, is really enjoyed to the fullest with a good size group of people. That way you get to enjoy more dishes.

Best little ethnic restaurants in Montgomery County?

Always wondered about Ghar-e-Kabab... I'll check it out.

I have been to Ruan Thai and you're exactly right... as good as Nava Thai for different reasons. They do take-out, so we tend to do take-out from Ruan Thai and sit-down at Nava Thai.

Best Jose Andres restaurant in DC

I think Cafe Atlantico -- no contest. In addition to a great dinner menu, they have a phenomenal Latin dim sum brunch on Sundays. It is really amazing. Anything you eat at Cafe Atlantico will be terrific, I promise.

I was underwhelmed by Zaytina, although it is a fun place to go with a group. I've never been to Jaleo, but my brother, a foodie who lives in NYC, says it is one of the best restaurants he's been to. Only had drinks at Oyamel; they were great!

Best little ethnic restaurants in Montgomery County?

Great suggestions! Thank you! I've never been to any of those. I'll definitely give them a try.

Best little ethnic restaurants in Montgomery County?

I know that Silver Spring, Bethesda, Rockville, Gaithersburg have some excellent ethnic restaurants! My current faves include Nava Thai, Michael's Noodles, Lotus Cafe, Udupi Palace, and Mama Wok. I need more suggestions! I love those little unassuming places that serve authentic ethnic food... any ethnicity. What are your favorites? Where should I try?

Five days in Tilghman Island area. Ideas for great dining along the eastern shore?

Love love love the Crab Claw in St Michael's. They have the best soft crab I've ever had. And the crab dip is amazing... comes in a bread bowl with cheese on top. Oh man... can I come with you?

Fridge pickles are ready! Now what?

Yes, my pickles are pickles... they just aren't preserved. Here is the recipe from my blog: http://eatniks.wordpress.com/2009/08/28/i-made-pickles/

Fridge pickles are ready! Now what?

Excellent point! Thank you so much!

Fridge pickles are ready! Now what?

I made refrigerator pickles for the first time and they are DELICIOUS! My question: if I leave them in the pickling liquid, will they absorb more flavor and risk becoming overpowering? What do I do with them now?!

Seeking great local food on the Eastern Shore

Great -- thank you!!

Seeking great local food on the Eastern Shore

Heading to the Eastern Shore this weekend for some canoeing and hiking... bringing the dog. We will make our required stop at the Crab Claw for a soft crab sandwich (they're dog friendly!), but have no other food plans yet. I'm looking for suggestions of other good local restaurants that serve good local food. I know there are lots of farms in that area, so there must be places to eat that great produce! Please tell me your favorite restaurants, farm stands, markets, etc on the Eastern Shore! (Staying in Easton, but getting around in that area is very simple.)

Restaurants need to have outside seating so we can bring the dog (I'll confirm with the restaurant that this is ok).

Peach/berry pie filled with liquid!

I used 2 tbsp of flour... that was all the recipe called for. Maybe that was the problem. Should I use another thickener?

Peach/berry pie filled with liquid!

I made a pie with fresh peaches and blueberries this weekend. It tasted delicious but it was FILLED with liquid! How do I keep this from happening? What did I do wrong?!

Tons of mint -- seeking creative suggestions

Sorry about that... thanks for requesting that this be moved. And thanks for the links!

Tons of mint -- seeking creative suggestions

I have a TON of mint growing in my garden. I think it is peppermint, but I'm not positive. I use it when cooking a lot (mint pesto, mixed with fruit, in salads, in marinades, etc), but a little goes a long way. I'm looking for other ideas to use up my enormous amount of mint. I made mint infused gin last year. It was great, but again it just took a little bit of mint. I am trying to think WAY outside the box, here! Sauces that can be frozen? Infusions? Home remedies? Drinks? Anything!

Breakfast in Downtown DC?

That looks terrific! Thanks for the info! In this case, I'm looking for something for a weekday morning and it looks like they aren't open. I am definitely going to have to try for a Sunday brunch, though!

Silver Spring Indian - Bombay Gaylord or Ghar e kabab (or somewhere else)?

I've never been to either, to be honest. But I did want to mention Udupi Palace on University. I think technically it is in Takoma Park, but it just a couple miles down University from Silver Spring. It is excellent. A friend of mine is from Southern India and said this place reminds her of her mother's food. I think that's a pretty good endorsement!

Breakfast in Downtown DC?

In the Metro Center area, where would I find decent breakfast? Nothing fancy... but preferably not Au Bon Pain. Any ideas?
