Restaurants offering wine pairings in Winnipeg

Try calling Kenaston Wine Market, they will be sure to have some good tips!

Lunch suggestions Halifax

I have friends stopping in HFX from a cruise next week. Looking for suggestions for lunch with a focus on seafood and a decent wine list in the downtown/waterfront area.

Perogies? In HRM?

As a newish Haligonian who grew up on perogies my advice is make them at home. They are not as hard as I thought and so the best comfort food. I don't think perogies are well known here.. hmmmmmmmmmmmm a good farmers market idea?

Halifax, NS - Best restaurant for a corporate cocktail party

I would coAnsider Morris East. It has a great location and I attended a private function there that was relaxed, fun, elegant and the food and drinks as well as service was wonderful. As well; Janes On The Common would be a great space as the seating (lots of benches) would be a very warm way to host a relaxed cocktail party.

Knife sharpening in Halifax

Fid sharpens knives. It may take a few days to get them back but I've found they do a very good job- just call ahead. Cheers.

press gang

I agree with the other reviews. I have eaten there 3 times and experienced mediocre food and some pretty terrible service. The last meal I had was $40 lobster tail poached and literally came with at least 2 cups of mashed sweet potato and a few green beans. I phoned the next day as the "baby food" plate for that price was bothering me. I informed that while the food was fine, the amount of mush killing the lobster and the rushed service needed to be noted. The manager actually had the gall to tell me nobody had ever complained before. I won't be back. Fid, Chives, Bish, and the little spoken of Stories (which is wonderful) are much better choices if you want to spend some money.

Dinner on McGill/St. Paul - Wilson, Vauvert, Holder, Stash, Gandhi, or other?

I just had my 2nd meal at Gandhi, the first this trip. I really love the esthetics of the restaurant. and the menu is wonderful. I found both times that the food is quite spicy (and I love it spicy) so that may be difficult for some of your guests.

I highly recommend the prawn puri appetizer- the best I have had. They have a decent wine list as well. The portions were on the small side but can be forgiven based on a two person order and the food being very good- excellent Saag Paneer, Aloo Ghobi, Lamb Rogan Josh.

Now to the bad news: the service. We had reservations- they put us right beside the door. I am not over dramatizing when I say my s/o was almost outside. When asked to be moved we were put at a table right by the kitchen when there were at that point many open tables. The restaurant is divided into two rooms, the first being almost full we asked to move again; this time to the other room that only had one active table for the sake of hearing each other and not the kitchen. We were told the owners were having dinner there so we could not.
As the night finished we watched one half of a very lovely but understaffed restaurant become a bit frenzied and packed while the owners sat with a bottle of wine in plain view in the other half. While the food, atmosphere and location are fantastic, we were left feeling almost out in the cold.

4 more Nights in Montreal starting today!

I am in Montreal this week and want the "must go to" recommendations for the city. The trip started out at Au Pied du Couchon- very good, however a bit underwhelming given my expectations. Certainly the warmest service I have had in years!

I have one business dinner at Gibby's but other than that have nights free. Staying on Sherbrooke East. This is my fourth trip to this amazing city and I just want to go to epicurean heaven! Budget is not an issue but I don't want to break the bank every night.

I am with my significant other and he has one must: where is the best poutine?
Other criteria: not too formal, we are on working vacations and want to relax.... great wine lists or bring your own, restaurants that are known for something uniquely special. Oysters, tartare, local and organic and interesting are big draws for us as well as being able to hear each other!
