Went there for the first time and loved it! I loved the small plate approach. The food went oh so well with drinks. Favorite was the cedar plank salmon. Great neighborhood place, worth checking out - also works well for a group dinner .

Would this be a good location for a group birthday dinner (~8 people)? I'm seeking a location w/good ambiance, allows conversation and good food and drinks for a surprise 40th birthday. Your thoughts?

Thanks for the recs - I'll check them out! A friend recommended Cobras and Matadores. I know that it has received mixed reviews and I'm a bit nervous w/the noice level there - the birthday boy hates loud. I'm also now thinking about Hollywood. Keep the suggestions coming, they are awesome and greatly appreciated!
Surprise 40th Birthday Dinner for 6-9 Downtown?
I'm planning a surprise 40th birthday dinner for 6-9 and need a location on the eastside w/ great ambiance, food and also allows conversation. We have been have been to most of the Los Feliz/Silverlake locations (Blairs, Cliff's Edge, Vermont, Canale,Stella, Mixville) . I would love to host the dinner downtown but am strugging w/locations that have the right feel. I'm not a big fan of the Patina group (too corporate) and want a place that's hip and feels special. A place like R- 23 would be perfect but we were recently there. Blue Velvet looks awesosme from their website but it seems pricey. I would like to pick up the tab up and want to spend ~50-60 a head. I love this site and would greatly appreciate your suggestions!
