Basta Pasta, North Quincy

I went last night with a friend after seeing it listed as "Best of New" in the Boston Globe. When we arrived there was a wait but we grabbed seats at the bar and had a drink (which are nicely priced). We were seated at a table in the middle of the dining room and the table next to us was like 3 inches away from ours (not exagerating). We then waited about 20 mins for a server to approach our table and take our order. It seemed like there were only 2 servers for the entire restaurant so it probably wasn't her fault that she couldn't get to us sooner; it was packed. My friend ordered the greek salad and the mussel appetizer as her entree. The server asked her what kind of dressing she'd like for her greek salad and she replied "greek or italian" which they didn't have. Wierd. I ordered the beet salad with arugula & goat cheese. It was nicely dressed but there were way too many beets and not enough arugula. The portions are quite large. For my entree I had the shrimp scampi which was pretty flavorless. Overall a pretty disappointing experience. I saw that they had a wood buring oven so I may go back to try the pizza.

I scream you scream....

We're always trying to find a good ice cream spot. My husband and I were so dispointed when we went all the way to cambridge (!) :) to try Christina's Ice Cream. The service was rude, the ice cream forgettable. I had chocolate and all I could taste was the fat. Barely any flavor at all. My husband got the fresh mint (which was pretty good) and a scoop of dark chocolate (okay). Not sure why people like this place...

Another One Bites The Dust - Persephone

It's too bad. Food was always great each time I've gone. A little pricey though. It goes to show how important location/parking is. It's a desolate area, no parking and dark. If restaurants want to survive in that area the meters need to be available for everyone (not just residents only) who lives around there anyways????

Restaurants everyone seems to love but you don't

I agree that the service is b*tchy, but if you sit at the bar and order the experience is MUCH better. I think the food is really solid.

Mistral!! Totally don't get it. Everytime I go in I expect solid good food and service and I'm always underwhelmed. I went last night with friends and we were seated in the "lounge" area where the hostess said we had an "amazing" server. She completely ignored us all night. The two tables that sat down after us ordered first. My friends and I shared a bunch of appetizers and got the Seared Foie Gras with Rubarb cake (which was yummy), the Escargot (which was average and too salty), the Gougure (which was AWFUL! it tasted like sweet fried dough from the county fair), the tuna tartar (okay, not very flavorful but had a pretty presentation) and the tomato, basil pizza (which was not very good, the sauce was sickly sweet). Each time I go I'm disappointed.

Summer 2009 openings and closings

this is the direction that "luxury" hotels are moving in...it's a quicker and easier buck to use it as "meeting space"

Bridal Shower in Boston

Hi. I'm looking for a laid back location with great food for a brunch/lunch for a bridal shower in Boston (South End/Back Bay) for about 15-20 people. Any suggestions?

Aujourd'hui or L'Espalier?

How long ago did you go? The new Chef has only been there for 2 years. I'd go back! I've only had great experiences there. I found my experience at L'Espalier stuffy. The food was good; nothing amazing though.

What's your favorite neighborhood spot?

DBar in Dorchester! The food is great, the service is pleasant. There's never a long wait. They also have a wonderful brunch.
