Just had a three meat plate at B.T.'s and it was meh...ticulously prepared, and had possibly the best brisket I've ever had. Nice bark on the short rib and brisket, and the rubs really penetrated all the meats (I've had some perfectly smoked meats before that didn't have a lot of flavor). Sides were all excellent, we had the mac n' cheese (pretty sure I tasted gruyere in there) the potato salad, and cole slaw. We had the andouille bites for an appetizer - damns, they were good. Next time will take advantage of the byob. I get the sense from the other posts I've seen about bt's that they are consistent, so I will definitely be back.
What's for dinner #145 [old]
Thanks! One day I will have nothing to put on them, and I suspect they'll still be OK.

Thanks! I liked the mashed potato one better - the other one was good, but the robiola was not really necessary - got overwhelmed by the other flavors. On the other hand, it was gonna get chucked if it hung around much longer...
What's for dinner #145 [old]
Last night it was clean out the fridge for pizza toppings night. I made some no-knead pizza dough, and one was a mashed potato, mascarpone, pesto and truffle cheese pie, and the other was a bacon, corn, jalapeno, and robiola pie.
Taiwan Cafe, reopened yet?
that makes my week. they have my favorite version of scalliion pancake stuffed with roast beef
Where to eat lunch in downtown Boston?
The crispy pork talk got me thinking about Cafe Latino in Center Plaza. Mammoth portions of pork (ask for extra crispy skin) with awesome rice and beans and sweet plantains. Also great: empanadas, fried chicken wings, and on Wednesdays, pastelon.

Quite good stuff - I am usually more of a pork person, but I do think the chicken is even better.
Casa Razdora...Are You Kidding Me???
It is definitely a treasure of the financial district, but I will agree, I was getting markedly fatter when I worked closer to it.
Redbones Food Truck
I had a two meat combo off the truck, and thought the pulled pork was great, but the ribs were gawd awful. They were cooked to the right doneness for my tastes (fat rendered, and a little chew) and were smokey, but they had that ghastly hoggy flavor that I just can't get past. I actually threw them out after one rib, and that's a first for me. I think I'll save my rib days for the M&M truck.
The Taco Truck in City Hall Plaza
I really like all their tacos, except for the "crab rangoon" one.

Another one to try - sounds awesome. Might get that torta and supplement with some of staff meal truck's chicken skin.
Biryani Park - Sri Lankan in Malden
Yep - that sounds like the fish and shrimp we had. I do remember that they were advertising the buffet - psyched to hear the food was nice n' fresh.
Fun - Good Food West Roxbury, Newton area
Porter Cafe and Masona Grill in W Rox are good. Kouzina and The Local are good in Newton. 51 Lincoln is supposed to be very good, too.

M&M ribs are at City Hall plaza on Tuesdays. Went today and had the ribs and brisket. Quite good, I haven't had there barbecue in some time. Not super smoky or barky, but the meats are done perfectly. Brisket is the shredded variety, and very moist.
fried chicken???????????
That combination jarred loose the memory of a singularly unappetizing "recipe" in Foucault's Pendulum.
Let’s make a list of obnoxiously loud restos
+1 - the acoustics seem almost designed to physically crush you with loudness while eating, and I'm not super sensitive to noise.
Strip T's increasing funkiness
Took out some sandwiches today, including the lamb and watercress, eggplant banh mi, and shrimp po boy. Damn, those were fine sandwiches.
Chinatown Bakeries: Best Pineapple Bun
The y are both good, but Crown Royal's are fatter and creamier.

Yes, where might one hear a pickup line like "I find pastrami to be the most sensual of the salted cured meats"?
Chinatown Bakeries: Best Pineapple Bun
I think I have seen them at Crown Royal bakery, but haven't had one. I am addicted to their coconut buns.
Biryani Park - Sri Lankan in Malden
Finally made it there this past weekend, and it was as awesomely outrageous as everyone has said it is. Had the Gobi Manchurian, Egg Bajji, and chicken 65 to start with, and having never had Sri Lankan food before really blew me away with with their freshness and flavors. My son who actively hates caulflower actually ate and claimed to like the Gobi Manchurian, though their deep frying capabilities could probably make a lump of dirt taste good.
Had the goat biryani, I loved how buttery and crispy some of the rice bits were, and the meat was caramelized and tender. Also had the Massachusetts Special Dosa, which had a ton of fillings, but still managed to be crispy. It was massive, though I was envious of another table that ordered a dosa that was the size of a large sleeping bag.
We also got the fish fry and shrimp fry plates, as well as the goan fish curry. The fried fish was perfectly moist in the middle with a spicy exterior crust. The shrimp were also expertly pan-fried.
The roti was probably the best fried bread dish I have ever had of any kind. The sweet onion chutney, two other chutneys (I think one had lentils) and coconut were each distinctive, and I wanted to dump all of them on the bread simultaneously. The roti itself was perfectly pan-fried, and moist on the inside.
I was really distressed that I couldn't finish every last bit of food then and there. Definitely will be back.

Asked for one a couple days ago at Costco in Dedham, and they were out, so I went to Restaurant Depot in Needham. Got a really nicely marbled one with a fat cap that didn't need a whole lot of trimming. You do have to have a membership, which is not difficult to get (there are some posts related to RD memberships).
Food Truck Season
I had a similar issue at Roxy's - the line was just to dismally long, so I hoofed it to Cafe Latino for pastelon (plantain lasagna) which was awesome as always. Definitely more than stood in for the short rib fontina sandwich. I probably finished by teh time I would have gotten the sandwich.
Next Wednesday I'm going to try to hit Roxy's earlier to see if that makes a difference.
The *NEW* East Coast Grill
The mayo on the banh mis I've had at the various chinatown joints don't appear to have any siracha. I probably wouldn't notice it in any event due to the chopped chilis.
Thoughts on boston's CRUMBS Cupcakes
The Cakeology cupcakes were, as appearances indicated, amazing. I have to say they were the best cupcakes I have ever had anywhere. One sort of common complaint I have about most of the other 5,000 cupcakeries around here is that while many taste great, they don't really taste any better than a good old homemade one, and many are just plain too sweet.
I had a Boston Creme, Cadbury egg, and red velvet cupcake (well, not whole ones) and they all were perfectly balanced in sweetness, and the cake had an intense buttery flavor and moist texture. I bought nine for about 30 bucks, but I have to say, they were worth every penny. Size-wise, they are more in line with Sweet or Treat, not the mega-sized Crumbs format. They also make custom full size cakes, which looked great.

And still leaning in close, to contain the shrapnel. Re: cupcakes, I just got a bunch from Cakeology. Smaller size, but they look amazing. One has an entire cadbury cream egg jammed in the middle (though I usually don't go for cupcakes in which the frosting dwarfs the cake).
