Renegade Cafe?

Wow that's close to us, I hadn't heard of its opening previously. Might try it tomorrow.

Looking for pappadams in Phoenix

AJ's sell Sharwoods Pappadom's in the cracker area.

There are two ways to prep them. The best way is to shallow fry mixed with deep fry. You need about half an inch of hot oil and kinda good skills with tongs to hold it and some form of spatula to keep it flat as it fries.

Second option is microwave it. Works quite well, surprisingly. It says either brush with oil or do dry and both work but I'm thinking a spray with a Pam type can would work great. I prefer the dangerous oil method myself though!

Pomo Pizzeria - Scottsdale

Ate at Pomo tonight and it was really delicious.

We had the Caprese salad which was simple and tasty. My boys had the kids pies which they enjoyed and I thought were very fairly priced at $5.95.

There were two options marked on the menu as house favs so I ordered those. The diavalo was as described by OP very tasty. The Parma was quite different much more heavily dressed with a lot of fresh arugula, plenty of prosciutto and Parmesan.

I preferred the simplicity of the diavola but the wife preferred the freshness of the Parma both we'd order again.

The place has a bit more of a European feel than places like Humble Pie, Oregano's, Grimaldi's and it was perfect weather to eat outside tonight. All in all fun times :)

Culinary & Cocktail Herbs - Where to Find/What to Make?

I'm trying to grow more herbs, but I have the worst green fingers.

Rosemary seems easy to grow here, any other suggestions of easy to grow herbs. So far I've managed to not wither some rosemary, mint and basil. Thyme should be easy?

I wish grocery stores would do pick and mix herbs by weight. The markup on those little packs of herbs must be insane.

Marcellino's now open in Southbridge

Normally a first night of anywhere has its hiccup's but I must say for a first night in a new location Marcellino's was a well oiled machine. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

I never managed to get over to the old location so I can't compare the feel of the room but it seemed to me a very good use of the space. Has a bit of a warmer feel than when it was Digestif.

Food was very accomplished, I had the calves liver and it was damn tasty :) It's not the cheapest Italian place in the world but I think the combination of food and service was worth it.

Is there an upscale Mexcian restaurant in the Valley?

Just dined at La Hacienda tonight. I don't have much of a frame of reference as to other Mexican places as it's not normally our favorite thing to eat out. Everything we ordered was delicious though. We'll give it another visit at some point for sure.

The mission was good enough first time to get a return visit at some point too.

What is the single best restaurant in Phoenix?

Plus one for NOCA.

I'm surprised so many people love FnB.

I thought the presentation of the food was sloppy. I really didn't like the Denny's style plates. Some of the food was tasty but not many dishes we tried were wow in taste or appearance.

Delux v ? Burger place

Delux and 25 degrees are pretty much on a par for me.

The best burger I've had in phx area was a lunchtime one at Elements at the Sanctuary, however second time round it was nothing special. Just one lucky one maybe.

I tried five guys in Tempe a few weeks back, that one fell apart.

Looking for Best Pizza in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area

The line at Oregano's these days seems pretty long too, last time we tried to go it was an hour and 20 mins, that was the Shea location. We'd have waited but we were in a rush that day.

I think both Grimaldi's (DC location has been better for us ) and Humble Pie have really nice pizza's.

Redendo's in Fountain Hills is our closest place and it's pretty good too.

Elements at Sanctuary

We ate at Elements this Friday.

My wife also had the ravioli. I wasn't impressed by the look of the dish, and commented that it look more like an enchilada style presentation. Something must of been right though as the wife thought it was a really great dish.

I had the duck, which I thought the presentation was much better on. I enjoyed the dish, mainly because of the duck leg confit.

We both had raw oysters to start not a lot to report on those, seemed fresh and good.

You can't beat the view too :)

Best Indian Food in the City...

Can't say if it's the best Indian as I have a limited frame of reference but just wanted to say thanks for the Nirvana recommendation. Was fairly close to the hotel and given our limited Indian choices in Scottsdale tasted damn good :)

Fountain Hills recs

Just dropping in to say thanks for the Redendo's rec.

It was perfect for the day we moved in, cute little place and pretty good pizza :) My boys shared spaghetti and meatballs and enjoyed it a lot, noodles flying everywhere.

They had a gumbo on special which seemed kind of out of place so we ordered a cup just to check it out and that was pretty good too.

All in all a cute place and close to us now so will probably be a place we visit or get takeout from on some busy days.

Just moved to Scottsdale/N. Phoenix and need food help!!

Petite Maison, is possibly the best priced great restaurant in Scottsdale.

Floyd's, we had a really long wait there but I don't think it's typical, just one of those nights and the food was pretty good.

Just tried the Herb Box at DC ranch tonight and I really think that match's well with your not too over priced / intimate setting criteria.

Here's one suggestion that's different, if you don't mind a bit of a drive. Drive to Pinnacle Peak mountain. Walk a bit on the trail up and around the mountain, great views and not a difficult trail. Then after go to Sassi and eat the appetizers at half price in the bar. It's only happy hour Tuesday - Thursday, 5-7pm. But it works well with the mountain closing early with the short days. Its nothing like NY neighborhood, but its a great way to connect with the new place you live.

Scottsdale: Krispy Kreme opening in DC ranch

Tonight we ate at the Herb Box, which was really nice and probably way more deserving of a topic than Krispy Kreme.

But I was just kind of shocked to see a Krispy Kreme in DC ranch. That place has tried so many different things maybe that will be something that finally pulls more people in. Who knows.

Anyways the Herb Box was really good, will definitely visit again :)

Fountain Hills recs

Pizza is always a good thing to go eat after a move because it's easy and you can always have a few slices left over for unpacking time the next day.

So we'll give that a go the first night, thanks :)

Fountain Hills recs

We are moving house and while still in Scottsdale we are going to be on the far east now so Fountain Hills is actually closer than some of our usual places to eat.

I've searched for recs in Fountain Hills and haven't come up with much on this board.

So I guess the question is do I just accept 15 more minutes drive west along Shea to eat or are there are some good things to be had pointing the car east.

BLT Steak: PHX

We went and had the happy hour appetizers this week outside by the firepit. We tried everything on the menu except the tartar as it didn't seem to fit in with casual dining around the fire.

There were some good things but generally the flavours were a bit one note for me.

You just can't beat the view of the Camelback though and the fire was nice so it was still good times.

POSH Scottsdale - ugh, what an expensive disappointment

There's been a few more positvie reviews than yours but none really glowing enough to make me try it so far. Your review pushes me a little further away.

I think maybe I'm just too much of a control freak to tick a few boxes and hope for the best.

NY Chowhound in PHX on business. Request your assistance

For a great steak, BLT steak at the Camelback Inn is a good choice. Modern Steak easily walkable from your hotel but I think the 5 min cab ride to BLT steak is worth it for the ambiance.

The resort patio is a nice place for a cocktail either before or after dinner.

scottsdale/tempe w/vegetarian

I would call ahead to Noca. Tell them you are dining with a vegetarian on the reservation and ask them if they can organize something special. You will eat great and I'm pretty sure he will too.

If you guys like pizza, Humble Pie is a good option. They have plenty of vegetarian options and a nice Burrata salad.

Scottsdale's Uncorked, Tapino, Armitage- which one to try?

No we were on the back wall just the two of us.

Older couples either side, was perfect as they seated earlier than us so we got some good ideas looking at their food arriving.

Scottsdale's Uncorked, Tapino, Armitage- which one to try?

We went to Petite Maison in the end tonight. I decided to sit inside as although the patio and fireplace is damn pretty it was pretty cold tonight.

Lovely experience. Great food. Love that its some weird kinda building that just got given love and transported into something totally different.

Great place :)
