Ice Cream Yule Logs in Edmonton?!?!?

Can somebody please help me (yet again!)? I'm looking for an ice cream yule log in Edmonton and can't seem to find one. I've found a few of the cake variety, but none of the ice cream and cake type. I appreciate your help!!

Peaches & Maroc Clementines in Edmonton

I haven't been downtown yet, but I did find some clementines at the Superstore on 137th street. They aren't Maroccan, but they aren't half bad though!! I'll keep you all updated.

Peaches & Maroc Clementines in Edmonton

Please, please, please...if anybody knows where I can find Maroc clementines and fresh peaches in Edmonton, please let me know. I'm from Ontario (and also lived in New Brunswick for 4 years) and am used to having these readily available in markets there. I can't believe that I can't find clementines of all things in stores here, especially at Christmastime. I'm also at a lost for finding fresh peaches or even frozen ones for that matter. The closest that I found was a blend of frozen fruit but I wanted just peaches. Canned is not an option. If anybody can please help me, I'd be really grateful! :)

Starbucks Question

I don't know of any other place in town that you can get steamed soy milk with a vegan vanilla syrup (a lot of syrups sneak milk byproducts into their ingredients list).

Vegetarian (Fine Dining & Casual) for my 30th!

I visit Toronto quite often...thanks for the link! I've never heard of it before. It's on my "must dine" list for my next trip. :)

Vegetarian (Fine Dining & Casual) for my 30th!

Oh yes, how could I forget about Fresh? The last time I was there, I literally stuffed myself because I just couldn't help it. I started with their homemade spicy tomato soup and cornbread, proceeded with their amazing Buddha Bowl and finished everything off with some delicious vegan carrot cake. Oh, how I miss being in Ontario!!! :)

Vegetarian (Fine Dining & Casual) for my 30th!

You've heard correctly about the brunch at Fressen! Do yourself a favour and try it sometime. For $9.00 you get a huge plate of fresh, amazing food. I personally recommend the tofu scramble griddle. :)

What odd or unusual foods to you eat?

A lot of people think that I'm weird because I like to eat my cereal dry. Besides my love of tofu and most things soy, I think that most people would consider my eating habits pretty standard. My mom, on the other hand, is the queen of weird sandwiches. One of her favourites is icicle pickles and Cheez Whiz sandwiches. What do you enjoy that most people would consider odd or unusual?

Thanks guys! I'm going to tweak my ordering style and hope that my order confusion will be a thing of the past. I'll let you know how it goes the next time I hit a Starbucks! :)

Best cheap tea?

You're from Canada, oui? I personally love the Touch Organic teas (esp. green and jasmine) and buy them in a bulk cube of 100 for around $5.00 or so. You can find this brand in the organics section of the Weston grocery store chains (Loblaws, Superstore, Zehr's, Fortino's, etc.) and at most health food stores.

Time for a new deep-fryer

I haven't tried it, but I did see the commercial on Food Network today and it piqued my interest. It's the new T-Fal EZ Clean Deep Fryer. Bascially, it automatically cleans and filters the oil into a built-in storage container that is dishwasher safe. It looks super easy to use and clean. Here's the link: http://www.t-fal.ca/tefal/products/pr...

What's your favorite obscure website/catalog to order food?

C'est trop facile! (It's too easy!) Whilst in France, I became addicted to walnut flavoured white wine vinegar. This stuff is incredible! Seriously, when I go to France I bring back more of this than I do wine! I can't seem to find my favourite brand online, but I do purchase the Fallot brand from www.touchofeurope.net in the "Gourmet Grocery" section. If you have never tried this before, you must! It makes the best vinaigrettes and marinades ever. :)

Starbucks Question

Ok, I feel like an idiot for asking this, but I need some help. I'm just new to the Starbucks thing (my friend introduced me to my new favourite drink), but I'm not sure how to order. Every time I've ordered my drink in Toronto, there has never been any confusion as to what I've wanted, and I've received my order without any problems. But, since I've been in Edmonton, over half of my orders have been wrong. Am I not ordering correctly? Should I be more specific?

Here's what I normally say in Toronto:

May I please have a grande soy vanilla creme, no whip, 5 pumps of vanilla.

(Basically, it's just warmed soy milk (no coffee) with vanilla flavouring, no whipped cream, and extra vanilla.)

Sometimes I get served vanilla flavoured coffe here, sometimes my order has whipped cream on it and other times I don't even know what I get. How should I be ordering? What exactly should I say to eliminate confusion when at Starbucks? Your help is appreciated.

Merci beaucoup!

Christmas Turkey

Thanks for all of the input! I've decided to order from Planet Organic. For those who are interested, they will start taking orders for Christmas turkeys starting at the end of November or beginning of December. :)

Best Veggie Burger in Calgary

As far as fast food veggie burgers go, I prefer the BK Veggie. I don't know what it is, but there is something in the Harvey's veggie burger that doesn't quite agree with my stomach. The last two that I ate, ended with me being sick.

Christmas Turkey

I'm hosting Christmas this year (in Edmonton), so my parents and sister from Ontario and Québec will be coming to visit. I was just wondering where everybody gets their turkey for Christmas. We need at least a 20 lb turkey and I would prefer it to be organic/free range. I've done a bit of sleuthing online and found a great farm called Sunworks Farm, but they only take large orders. Any suggestions of good turkey farmers or retailers would be appreciated. Also, is it necessary here to place an advance order to make sure that you get exactly the size you would like in time for the holidays?

Merci!

Good Lebanese food in Edmonton?

Thanks so much for all of your input. I'm looking forward to checking these places out.

I came across the Blue Plate Diner website and saw that they have Lebanese apps. Has anybody tried their Leb fare? Thanks again!

Good Lebanese food in Edmonton?

I'm new to the area and was wondering if anybody has any hidden Lebanese restaurant gems (or even grocers) that they could share with me. I have yet to try the Parkallen (seems pretty pricey, but maybe it's worth it?) but have tried La Shish. It was good, but it didn't really wow me. Maybe I'm just spoiled from eating some excellent Lebanese food in Paris and Montréal. Any suggestions? Merci!

Have you tried The Mongolian Grill yet? It's one of my favourite places to eat in KW.

Best Veggie Burger in Calgary

I'm just new to Alberta, but in terms of chain restaurant veggie burgers available in Calgary, I would recommend Milestones, Kelsey's and Swiss Chalet. Now, if you end up in Toronto, I could really give you some awesome veggie burger advice! :)

As far as retail goes, the best by far is the Lick's Nature Burger. www.lickshomeburgers.com So far they are only available in select grocery stores in Ontario and B.C., but hopefully they will end up in Alberta sometime in the near future.

Food delivery to Lancaster Park (Edmonton Garrison)?

Hello!

I'm new to the area and was trying to figure out which restaurants deliver food to the base here in Lancaster Park (Edmonton Garrison). I know for sure that Boston Pizza and The Rice Pad do, but I was hoping for a little more variety. Thanks for your help! :)

BTW, I'm vegan, but my husband isn't so I'm not just wondering about restuarants with veg options.
