Middling chow at Moksa, and the Cocktail thing has Jumped the Shark
I am trying to think what the texture of a cocktail with "edamame mash" would be and it is nauseating me.
How far are you willing to drive for a good restaurant?
So....you only drive a short distance after drinking a lot of wine?
Recommendations near Boston Marriott Copley Place/ Hynes Convention Center in July
Coppa in the South End does small Italian plates in a very casual setting. They have a small but terrific assortment of salumi and cheeses.
I'd call Formaggio Kitchen a much-loved institution for meats, cheeses and just about everything else delicious. It's a store, not a restaurant, but I'm fond of putting together an assortment of snacks and eating in a park on a nice day. There is a smaller outpost of the store in the South End, but I'd recommend going to the larger flagship store in Cambridge. About a mile walk from the Harvard Square T stop (and through one of the area's loveliest neighborhoods to boot).
What is your price point exactly?
Guy Fieri seen at Angela's, and Cutty's
I saw him come out of Boston Burger Company in Davis Square yesterday. Looking ridiculous, of course. Once I saw who the cameras were for I walked away. Can't stand that dude.
What would Emily Post do? [moved from New Orleans]
It's a fine line, because causing your own scene to quell what you consider a scene can be equally (or more) disruptive to other restaurant patrons.
How Should Recipes be Written?
Ah, see I like the Cook's Illustrated preambles because I'm interested in why certain techniques/ingredients work better than others. It's also gratifying to see some of my own past failures be documented by the professionals at CI--it wasn't me, it was the recipe!
I can see how others would not, however. I do find their actual recipes fairly straightforward, however.
How Should Recipes be Written?
Introducing new ingredients/components mid-way through a recipe drives me batty. I'm looking at you, Joy of Cooking1
For me, it depends on the recipe. I'm a decent cook and have no trouble following a chatty "recipe" a la Laurie Colwin for something easy. I'm not that great a baker, so in that case I prefer clearly outlined steps.
Refills To Go at Sit Down Restaurants
Yeah, I feel like I should amend my earlier response. I can understand it's normal in some places, so obviously I don't think it's inappropriate or strange in that case.
Refills To Go at Sit Down Restaurants
Bread is also cheap--would you find it odd if someone asked for more bread and tucked it into his pocket on his way out?
Dinner party activities?
I wouldn't leave, but otherwise I agree with your post. Why not give people the benefit of the doubt that they can converse with new people?
Refills To Go at Sit Down Restaurants
I find that really inappropriate and I'd be mortified.
Seperate Checks?
Interesting. I guess I'm used to more communal dining with friends in general (hey, want to split that dessert? Let's get a side of ____ for the table) that separate checks would be way more of a hassle. Then again, I've never been the person silently fuming over having to overpay for a salad and glass of water.
Seperate Checks?
How do separate checks work with bottles of wine? Is there another, separate check?
Seperate Checks?
Is this a regional thing? I live in Boston and rarely see separate checks. In fact, I don't think I've done it in a sit-down restaurant.
Solo dining at WD-50 bar
Thanks! I had read about the change in menu but now am concerned that just "a few" dishes will be a la cart at the bar (I'm open to, but would ultimately prefer to not do a tasting). I'll check back after they update the site.
Solo dining at WD-50 bar
I'll have a Friday night in NYC to myself in early June. What are the chances of getting seated at the bar if I go right at 6pm? I'm fine with eating/drinking alone, but really dislike standing around a bar waiting for a seat alone. I've been wanting to eat here for ages and this is the only chance I'll have this go around.
highland kitchen somerville
I had the pierogi Thursday night and didn't detect any hot pepper. Also, pan-frying pierogi after boiling is a pretty traditional preparation--not sure why you think it needs to be noted.
How far are you willing to drive for a good restaurant?
I don't have a car, so I think of things in walking/subway/bus time and cab fare. I'll spend an hour or so on the subway/bus or spend $20 or so on a cab for a "normal" night out.
Finger lickin' good? [moved from General topics]
Since it's a bbq place I'd give you a pass. In most other scenarios, I'm with your SO.
Best lobster roll thats not 30 bucks
I vastly prefer fresh to frozen lobster. It's that simple. Kellys does have its charms, but the lobster roll isn't one of them for me.
(appetizer-sized roll at Neptune? Yikes, I'd hate to see what you consider an entree!)
Oysters & a TV?
Yes, right over the bar. Though I forgot about the other games on TV and they just have the one set, so I take back my suggestion.
Oysters & a TV?
Marliave was my first thought--the bar is never too crowded or loud, so it's good for catching up.
Bachelor Party Diner Options in Boston - Lively, Fun Atmosphere
I've only been for drinks and admittedly, some of the servers'...charms...were lost on me, but maybe Red Lantern?
What did you have for breakfast today?
This was the breakfast of my 20s. Truth be told, I still kind of miss it.
What did you have for breakfast today?
Coffe, a handful of raw almonds, a Granny Smith apple and a few slices of Dubliner cheddar cheese.
Airplane Food
But how is it any different than your seatmate eating the meal provided by the airline? Someone next to you is still consuming food that another in close quarters might find malodorous.
I absolutely try to be considerate--I'm not unwrapping a sardine sandwich or assembling a curried goat roti . But I'm also not going to eat airline food or subsist on power bars for 7+ hours, either.
