looking for killer bar food

Well Honda Ya is a very, very solid Japanese izakaya (I've been to dtla and Tustin). Indian (a Chinese tapas sorta joint) in San Gabriel is good (get the teriyaki corn, stir fried noodles and the bamboo chicken soup). For Korean bar food, O.B. Bear is good (get spicy chicken w/ radishes ... http://www.yelp.com/biz/o-b-bear-los-angeles-2#query:ob%20bear). Just tried Spice Table in Little Tokyo - not bad (liked the tripe, and loved the deep fried cauliflower).

As far Western food? Red Lion Tavern's cool to check out (pea soup w/ sausage/hot dog cracks me up). I haven't had much food at Rockwell, but it was ok. I'm looking forward to trying Fat Dog. Prolly some wine bars like Bacaro might be cool for you.

Does anyone also agree with me that Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles is just not that great?

In many dishes I really appreciate texture contrast. NOT in my waffles! I love the soft, slightly spiced Roscoe's waffles! I hate Belgian waffles or other types where the squares are large. Possibly this is because I grew up on Eggos? Who knows. But I love waffles here and Omelette and Waffle very much.

Best Italian (money no object) in L.A. area for a VERY picky eater

I want to try Angelini... heard great things from a picky Italian eater. I like Osteria Mamma, and have had subpar service at Osteria la Buca. But my current favorite joint is Colori Kitchen.

Your favorite restaurants for healthy food

Forage in Silverlake (good broccoli, cauliflower and more), and A-Won on Vermont (great sashimi salad rice bowl).

Best Iranian/Persian Food in L.A.??

thanks

What/where can I eat that is unique to the LA area?

Hmmmm, Glendora's Donut Man strawberry seasonal donuts. In N Out (I know it's in other states now). Pa Ord Thai restaurant... along w/ Jitlada. Philippe's is ok. Mo Chica is great refined Peruvian, Marios is great laid back Peruvian. Daikokuya is great ramen. Shoot... I find LA more to be top notch w/ a slight twist in a few types... especially CA fusion, Asian, and Mexican.

Need a New Favorite Italian Resteraunt

I like Divina Cucina too. But if you can make a 15 min drive, I highly suggest Colori Kitchen in downtown LA. It's better than Divina in my opinion. It's better than Bottega Louie and most other Italian restaurants. Osteria Mamma is great and I haven't tried Angelini yet.

(Chicken) Ramen in Little Tokyo

I think there's a Santouka on the westside. I've been to one in SD, and several times in Tokyo. You MUST get the "salt" ramen. I'm still a big fan of Little Tokyo's Daikokuya... way more than Orochon. However, the line's a battle, usually.

New restaurants in LA?

This isn't that close to West Hollywood, but Forage is so excellent, that it's worth a mention. It's on Sunset.

Best Iranian/Persian Food in L.A.??

Raffis in Glendale is Persian Armenian. So is Shiraz... make sure to try the soup AND the crispy rice w/ stew/spread including fruit. AMAZING.

Okay folks, I’ve decided to take the plunge ... Korean food. Where to begin?

Seong Buk Dong, get the braised ribs. I like the grilled fish, but that's more of an authentic thing less people like.

Halmae Jib, I always get the soy bean paste soup w/ barley rice... once more, kind of an authentic thing. This spot is 24 hrs and a great alternative to Hodori.

Young Dong for my favorite "sul lung tang". Ham Ji Park for the bombest pork ribs and pretty good potato and pork soup.

Parks BBQ for great bbq.

Moo Dae Po 2 for not bad, fun environment, great for large parties all you can eat BBQ (some others may have slightly better quality, service, and prices, but I'm never disappointed here).

Yu Chun Chic Naeng Myun for my favorite Korean cold noodles... they use the chewier arrowroot noodles here opposed to the common buckwheat.

Naejohyang Restaurant for my favorite "kal guk soo" ... even more than the 24 hr Myung Dong which is solid.

Awon for their hwaedupbap (sashimi and veggies mixed w/ rice)!

Good Italian Near Greek Theater?

Colori Kitchen in downtown isn't that close, but worth mentioning as it's my favorite Italian restaurant that I go to every couple months.

Good Italian Near Greek Theater?

I've been there three times. I like the deviled eggs and pappardelle there a lot. Also, sitting next to the open kitchen's cool.

Two weeks in Santa Monica...what to eat, where to eat it!

Father's Office's burger is great. I second someone's Cha Cha Chicken suggestion, and would highly suggest the jerk chicken enchiladas. Musha is a pretty nice, fancier izakaya. Try their rich cheese risotto if you go.

I am so bored , stop the hype

I haven't tried Spanish at La Paella, but supposedly it's good but pricey. Also, I much always suggest people try Korean, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese in LA County, b/c we have some of the best in the world, and definitely in the country. Many spots are specialized, so it depends what you want. Off the top of my head, Park's BBQ for simple, tasty Korean BBQ, Pa Ord for a great Thai Tom Yum Goong soup, Nem Nuong for great Vietnamese wraps, and Honda Ya for a solid Japanese izakaya experience! Have fun. BTW, my name is also John P!

Doughnut Hut in Burbank. Try the orange Frenchie,... it exceeded my expectations. Crumb was great too!

Three Nights In LA: East Coast Hound Curious About Solo Dining?

without a doubt, go try Mo Chica, gourmet Peruvian, which is relatively close to LA Live. Also, Daikokuya, Honda ya, Sushi Gen and the Yakitori joint in Weller court are close. A few Korean could be great, too...Moo Dae Po 2, Cho Sun, Halmae Jib. In Thai Town (a little further), Pa Ord, Jitlada, Sapp Coffee House and Sanamluang.
