What restaurants have bread made from chickpea flour?...
Not Chickpea bread, but 62 on Wharf in Salme has great Chickpea fries. Are you looking for gluten free or just chickpea flour as an ingredient?

breakfast in Brewster, MA
The Brewster Coffee Shop right in the middle of town is quite good for breakfast. They have outdoor tables and a range of options from the healthy to the greasy.
Anyone been to G Bar and Kitchen in Swampscott?
There has been a sign there "forever" saying it is going to be some "wood grilled pizza" place but my "sources" at the gym say that deal has fallen through - so it looks like it will continue to be vacant for the forseeable future. Too bad - Swampscott could use a more casual place like that.
Anyone been to G Bar and Kitchen in Swampscott?
So DH and I went last night. Very nice space - sort of a shabby chic meets lounge lizard look. It is quite small inside and I imagine would get very loud when full, but we did not have that issue on a Tuesday night.
Bread was very ho, hum - I think I saw it coming out of a Whole Foods bag. Definitely were expecting more from a "white table cloth" place. We started with the G Happy Meal - a sampler appetizer plate. Very hit or miss. Big miss- asparagus wrapped in phyllo served room temp. Tuna tartare was nice grade tuna, but lacked any accompanying sauce or seasoning. Shelled mussels were well cooked, but the accompanying sauce was so sparse hard to tell what it was. The winner was a fried shrimp with aioli and shiracha sauce - nice heat and texture.
I got the fish special - monk fish on vegetable risotto. Fish was cooked nicely and though it was accompanied by some carmelized onions the dish still seemed pretty one dimensional. DH had a brined pork loin with an allspice apples, braised bok choy and mashed potatoes. He was very happy with it though the potatoes were lukewarm. Nothing jumped out as special for dessert so we called it a night and headed down the street for Kelly's Ceram (best softserve in the East).
Overall it was a nice evening, but for the price - entrees in the mid to high $20's - would expect more complexity of flavors. Service was fine, but not spectacular. In all fairness they have only been open a week, but we will not be rushing back.
Anyone been to G Bar and Kitchen in Swampscott?
No - it is right next to Newman's bagels - I think it used to be a beauty salon or a spa. We're going tonight so I'll report back tomorrow.
Anyone been to G Bar and Kitchen in Swampscott?
Was thinking of trying it out tomorrow night. Has anyone been yet?

Reccomendations for 70th B-day dinner for visiting Mom
My mother will be visiting from Arizona (but a native New Yorker) in June and we are going to the Berkshires for a long weekend. My sister and I would like to take her out to dinner for her 70th b-day. She has very ecletic tastes so there are really no restrictions. Any suggestions for a dinner that would be truly memorable?
thanks...
gastronomic tour tips please
Probably was Zaffereno's, but unfortunately they have closed.
Eating Gluten Free in NYC
We like all sorts of cusines, but would like to take advantage of NYC being able to do some of the dishes we can't usually get for him when we eat out - ie pizza or Chinese. We do go out often and he often orders steak - one of his favs. Would like to keep it under $30 pp for entrees. Thanks for all the great suggestions so far.
Eating Gluten Free in NYC
My family and I are coming down from Boston for the St. Patty's parade. Our son has to eat Gluten Free. We were thinking of Lilli and Loo as I hear they do Chinese Gluten Free. Any expereinces there? Or suggestions for other options?

Where is Angela's?
I friend and I went for our first trip and couldn't find it. We were looking at the corner of
Lexington and Brooks and couldn't find it. What did we do wrong? Ended up having a great
dinner at Topacio instead, but still want to try Angela's. Please help this direction challenged Hound.
Does Angela's do take out?
Am looking for an idea for lunch for SO b-day on Sunday. Am thinking takeout from Angela's and then watching the rest of the workd play football on a friend's big screen TV. Anyone have experience with take out from Angela's?
Chestnut flour
Whole Foods should have just plain chestnut flour - ours in Swampscott does.
Seeking new Salem suggestions
Shubie's in Marblehead will do a great wine tasting at your home. Cafe Paolina in Swampscott is great (very) casual Italian and BYOB!
Wheat free pie crust?
I use Heinz distilled white vinegar which has been listed on their website as GF for years. Which brands are NOT gf?
thanks....
Wheat free pie crust?
I have adapted a recipe from 'The Way We Cook" by Sheryl Julian and Julie Riven. First I use a GF Flour mix as follows, adapted from Karen Robertson's Cooking Gluten Free. I use this in almost any conventional recipe to make it gluten free.
1/4 cup potato starch (not potato flour)
2/3 cup tapioca starch (you can get this at a Whole Foods type place or anywhere with Brazlian food)
3/4 sweet rice flour (also called glutinous rice flour but the "glutinous" here means sticky not having gluten in it) - available at asian grocery stores
1/3 cup cornstarch
2 tsps. xanthan gum
So use this flour in the following recipe:
Pulse in food processor:
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
Pulse in:
6 Tbsp. cold butter
6 Tbsp. shortening ( I use trans fat free Spectrum)
Then pulse in:
2 Tbsp. sugar
Combine and then add to processor until dough just starts to come together:
1 egg
1 Tbsp. vinegar
3 Tbsp. ice water
Turn out onto counter and gather into ball, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 mins.
I roll out between 2 pieces of parchment dusted with powdered sugar. Start with the dought flattened out some and edges smoothed out by hand. Dust underneath the dough often so it doesn't stick. If the dough starts to crack at all - stop and press back together. GF dough is very crumbly so a small crack will easily become a big crack. I use this for any pie and though we only have one Celiac in the family almost everyone has come to prefer its taste and texture.
Good luck and you are a good friend!!
Gluten Free Bakery?
Ikea's Almondy cakes in the Marketplace are Gluten Free - and only $5.99. They come in three flavors. We tried the Daim - which is sort of a chocolate and toffee mix -loved and are heading back for more.
Pamela's mix brownies are delicious! and the best locally available bread we have found to date is "Against the Grain" rolls and baguettes that you can get at Whole Foods. They have a little bit of mozarella in them which really helps the texture.
Dante's for RW Lunch Today - recs?
We are going to Dante's for RW lunch today - anyone already been? Any recs?

4 Days Central Vermont Help my fellow

Where to buy bread for Mexican Tortas on North Shore
We have a friend with a Mexican nanny who is looking for the rolls that tortas (ie. the great ones at Tacos Lupita) are made on. Any one know of a source on the North Shore?
thanks...
gluten-free menus?
The Legal Seafood's at the North Shore Mall is going to have a GF option on their Mother's Day menu and they have a dedicated fryer now so they can make GF french fries and onion rings. They are VERY accomodating. They also have a delicious GF chocolate cake on the menu too.
Depending where you live another great place I have found is Buying-Thyme in Beverly - they are an independent version of Dream Dinners - where you go and assemble your own feeezer dinners. Everything they use is organic and/or all natural (ie beef and poultry) and once a month they have a Gluten Free night. Their food is delicious and it is so nice to have GF "convenience" food that is made from great ingredients.
Summer Eateries on the Northshore
What used to be Flynnies on the beach in Marblehead has been re-opened (most unfortunately by the attitude-filled owners of Red Rock in Swampscott.) Haven't been yet, but the menu does look good. Seating is either outside or in a cramped very crowded dining room. Can't beat the view and the 1 pound steamed lobster for $15.95 seems like a very good deal given the present lobster shortage. Let me know if anyone has acutally eaten there.
anyone know where to get king cake in Boston?
It isn't really Boston, but Coffee Time Bake shop in Salem has them.
Anyone been to Garden at the Cellar in Harvard Square?
Read a good review a couple weeks ago in the Globe and am considering going before a show at the Regatta Bar. Should we just stick with Henrietta's Table instead?
thanks for any advice...
