Playa Cabana Dupont - Dinner Recommendations Hey - sounds like some good choices. I've only been to the Dundas location, but I will weigh in on the Crab v. Shrimp. My bf and I usually have the shrimp - which is amazing, but splurged on the Crab. It was good, but so messy and time consuming, that to be honest I enjoyed the shrimp far more, and not just because of the time spent. The flavours were better in my opinion. My bf felt the same. I also liked the lobster tacos which are often on special. Hope this helps and enjoy your meal! |

Fluff or Jet-puffed marshmallow in Toronto A coworker is looking for this and having a hard time. Can anyone think of a place (on the subway or downtown) where she can buy it? Thanks |

Just one last donut thread.... (specific info requested) Now I haven't been in a very long time, but I know its still around - Dip n' Sip on Kingston Road (in the beaches) makes their own donuts. Really 70's looking, with a big surface parking lot in front, smoking room. I remember their maple glazed being pretty good. |

Playa Cabana - New Junction Location Saw this place had opened, and decided to give it a try on Friday night. Got there reasonably early, and were seated right away, but the time we finished up, the place was really busy - lots of people standing at the bar. Overall was pretty impressed - my friend and I split some guacamole to start, which they serve in stone bowls. There were a lot of big chunks which was a little annoying. They offer you mild, medium or hot. We ordered hot, and it wasn't too spicy. Also two hot sauces on the side - one was very spicy. For our mains my friend thought he ordered a chicken burrito, but instead it was steak and shrimp. I was served "wet" with a green and red sauce. Said it was the best burrito he every had. I had the fish tacos, which came in an order of three. They were good - deep fried white fish, with an interesting cabbage/slaw on top. They came with a bean and rice side, which I thought was kind of overkill. I had a couple drinks - a mojito and a margarita. Both very good. And as an added bonus we were by the kitchen and watched one woman make all the tortillas fresh. I believe it was their first night, and there were a few bumps in the service, but nothing that would ruined our night. Will definitely try them again. |

I forgot to mention the bathrooms - damn they were bright! |

I went on Friday - very busy and lively. Took at look at the menu - didn't really find it too inspiring myself (with the exception of the bacon fat popcorn). Didn't matter though as they were out of food and apparently red wine also! (i know red wine at a brew pub - just wasn't in the mood for beer). That said, i live in the area and will definitely give it a another visit. Nice to have all these options. |

Momofuku Noodle Bar - weekday lunch This was for three, but we sat at the bar over looking the kitchen (which was fascinating). There was a single beside us. |

Vesuvios' Pizza at 3010 Dundas West in the Junction has it on the menu. I have only tried the cheese one, which i liked. |

Momofuku Noodle Bar - weekday lunch I went on the first week at one - they told me it would be an hour. I went back to work and they texted me. It was actually closer to forty minutes. This was of course the Friday of the first week, so I'm not sure this was representative, and I'm fortunate enough to work five minutes away. r |

I posted about it some time ago. I went to food stock, and am going to try and go to this too. |

Went here on the long weekend. It was a bit chaotic when it came to the seating, a woman pushed her way past our party and demanded to be seated. Our table of four was left for quite a while wondering if we would get to order. They had a very limited menu (ribs and pulled pork) but added chicken at the last minute. Four side options. The pulled pork was good, and I really liked the ribs, very smokey, good texture. The sides were okay. The weird thing is they only have these "old fashioned" sodas which no one was a fan of. I would go back for the ribs, but probably do take out. |

Soupstock - October 21, 2012 at Woodbine Park Just got a notice, that after the success of Foodstock last year they are holding a "soupstock" at woodbine park in Toronto! From the press release: "The event will feature more than 200 top Canadian chefs, including Jamie Kennedy, Anthony Walsh and John Higgins, who will concoct original soup creations to celebrate the Melancthon region’s rich agricultural, cultural and natural history." |

Went by today this afternoon. The store itself is a little odd and the guy behind the counter seemed a bit nervous. Undaunted I ordered the pulled pork. I didn't eat it there since the atmosphere was not that appealing and it was so nice I just took it to the park. The verdict - really good. I liked the bun, which reminded me of a very fresh kaiser, and the pork was tender, with good amounts of sauce and coleslaw. I would have liked a tangier sauce, but that was just preference. Ate the whole thing and was very satisfied. Will definitely go back. I'm hoping next time to bring someone so i can justify trying the sides - corn fritters or fried pickles. |

Hey! In town there is a small cafe just off the main drive with wraps and lattes called the Heritage House, I think they are just open in the day. There is a pub McKecks - everything will be deep fried, but its got beers. There is another restaurant that has changed hands a few times and i've yet to try its latest incarnation. In the past my family has had luck at a couple of the resorts, including good vegetarian meals. I suggest you pick up the local paper - the echo, and check out those advertised. Have a great vacation. |

Where can I get Mahi Mahi in Toronto, and is it expensive? I've also purchased (in a pinch) the PC Mahi Mahi - which is also frozen. I have enjoyed it, but can't tell you off hand how much it is - and it would not require a costco card. |

Former "Studio Restaurant" at Church and Carlton Yes, I've been to Guu - the restaurant I was asking about was the former "studio" restaurant which was a bit of a dive on church, south of carlton on the east side. |

Getting a little desperate - Birthday Dinner Saturday Hey Chowhounders! Its my birthday, and I have no plan, but am supposed to meet my family for dinner. I've been calling a ton of my favs and either they don't take reservations, or no reservations for six after 5 or before 930. My family is coming in from out of town, so this doesn't work. I was hoping to stay west-end (High park, roncesvalles, queen west west, parkdale Price: 17 to 25 a main Bistro, french, fusion, a little upscale, patio a bonus Takes Reservations, and might have space. Thank you! r |

Its rare that I have time, but if i'm at yonge and bloor I love the Nicoise at Salad House in Cumberland. The large is two meals for seven dollars! |

Been to the Eaton Centre location a number of times, for drinks and food. I quite enjoy their fish tacos - there is a rare tuna and a fried white fish. Everything is pretty pricey and the tacos won't fill you up. I usually eat a sandwich before I go and just get the tacos. The calamari is a large serving and good for sharing. sorry, haven't tried the burger. r |

Stopped by for a drink yesterday after a jane's walk. Its very new, and the service was nice and charming. They have quite a vinyl collection so i'm not sure if that's all they play. The menu, though we didn't indulge, was predominantly oysters, olives, meat and cheese platters. Two women who were there seemed to be really enjoying it. |

Two Part Chicago Visit in April Thanks for the suggestions - and the geography lesson :) |

Easter Saturday-Brunch/Lunch with Nana I am trying to arrange a brunch for my family on the long weekend saturday. I have a couple of requirements. There will be six of us and would prefer a place which we can make reservations. Accessible - my grandmother is using a walker and we need somewhere that is accessible - washrooms etc. Location: Downtown, uptown with parking close (see walker) Food: obviously i would like some good food, but we are with an older adult, so nothing "ethnic". Licensed! (please) and nice service. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! rb |

Two Part Chicago Visit in April Hi Fellow Chowhounders! I am coming from Toronto for nearly a week and am visiting with two seperate groups, The first is my active, sixty-something mother who is currently revisiting her hippy roots and is vegan, but might be tempted a little on vacation. The second group are some urban planning graduate students, so cheap and cheerful might be in order. We are staying by "Miracle Mile" - sorry my geography is a little off. With my mom we have a transit pass and would be willing travel. Any suggestions would be appreciated! r. |

Mystery place at Dundas West & High Park I did speak to him about the menu, but that was months ago and i remember that it sounded rather ambitious to me. (local, changing daily). I think it will end up as more of a bar, in particular with the stage and the lack of tables. He said he's looking at the end of feb as an opening but, not to be critical, i think he was aiming for september. |

Mystery place at Dundas West & High Park Are you talking about 3030 Dundas West - with the big roll up glass garage door? If so its going to be a bar/resto. The owner, it begins with a J, has finished the kitchen and interior - i think he's waiting on inspections. I saw the inside a few months ago - its really big (for the Junction) and has a stage at the back. |

ISO plastic/inexpensive champagne flutes in TO I agree with the Ikea suggestion - i bought a dozen or two and have had them for a few years. I got blue ones and i use them all the time for deserts and champagne. They have held up very well and look better than dollar store versions |

Where to Buy Shells for Coquilles St. Jacques? Hi, Looking to make this for christmas, but so far the only ones i've spotted were $3.50 each, which seemed a little pricey for a one-off meal. Anyone know of anywhere cheaper, preferably downtown toronto? Thanks |
