Meatgrinding help MSP

I'm making my grandmother's meatballs this weekend, and I am having a problem finding a butcher to help me with these instructions, which MUST, apparently, be followed:

2 lbs meat in all
1 lb round steak
1/2 lb pork
1/2 lb veal
All ground together in fine grinder 3 times

Lunds and Byerly's won't do it, Clancy's won't do it, and Ingebretsen's won't do it.

Thoughts?

Ginger Hop (MSP)

Thanks for the update. I work in the area, and am very excited. But just so you know, ban mi are VERY common around here--I think the TCities were way ahead of the rest of the country in this area.

Good eats between Two Harbors and Lutsen [MN]

My wife and are heading up to Silver Bay Area this weekend. We've been up north many times, but this time looking for new ideas. We are only going to be between Two Harbors and Lutsen, not any further north or south than that.

Any suggestions for any meal? We know about the Northern LIght restaurant and the dining room at COve POint Lodge, but not much else. Looking for ideas. I have searched the board but haven't found too much.

MSP- Best Croissant?

are you kidding by not mentioning Baker's Wife?

Jfood's Burger Tour (MSP) Continues - Buster's

My only problem with the Buster's burger is the bun. Others might disagree with this, since it's more about how you like your burger. It's too big and therefore too dry. To me, buns should be good, but serve as secondary to the burger and toppings themselves. The buns themselves are from the next door bakery, A Baker's Wife, which I would just like to say is one of the best bakeries I have ever been too, if not the best.

Others will certainly disagree with this, but just so you know--if you don't want a huge bun, a bun that overwhelms your burger, this isn't the place for you. Unless you want to tear a lot of the bun off to make it more reasonable.

Good rye in MPLS

My wife and I have been looking for a good rye bread in Minneapolis or environs, with no luck. Yes, we can find good bread that is indeed rye, but the rye flavor is very subdued. We want it to be VERY rye-ey. Any hints, or anyone else find this to be a problem?

In Search of a better Pho. [MSP]

I urge you to think again about Ngon. For my money, and I've visited about a dozen or more places for Pho, it's the best in town.

Dining recomendations for Mall of America (MSP)?

I think the Twin City Grill is very good. They know their audience, and they deliver over and above the expectations of that audience. Eat there.

Citizen Cafe, great food, poor service.[MSP]

My wife and I ate at Citizen cafe last night with her parents, who were visiting. This was our second time there, to a place I leave near and very much want to survive, and to offer a great dining experience.

The food was great. I had the scallop appetizer and the sirloin salad. My wife had the 3-day pork which was good, but slightly fatty. My father in law had the turkey breast and loved it, and my mother in law had the rachel, and didn't really make any comment, so i don't know. It looked good.

Besides service being very slow for a Saturday night with a half-full restaurant, when my mother in law ordered the Rachel, the waiter, not joking or teasing, said, "You don't want any starch or sides with that?" No, she didn't, and anyway, it's ON bread and there is bread for the table. Then, the waiter came back and said, "You ordered a ham and cheese, no sides?" Ugh. But that wouldn't be so bad until a different server brought out our food and said, "And here is the rachel, without any sides." I thought this was pretty rude, whether meant to be or not.

So, slow service, and a waiter who was well, not so sharp. I think I will go there once more since the food is so good, and reasonably priced, but if the service is as slow and dim, that's it.

Oceanaire costs [MSP]

The Oceanaire web site doesn't list prices. Can anyone give me an idea of the prices there?

Pastor Hamilton's - St Paul

Last fall was a long time ago. I guess I don't understand why everyone always links to the past. Why not start new conversations?

Anyway, I too would be interested if anyone has had any Pastor Hamiltons LATELY. I live near Ted Cook's, which has a new look.

MSP - weekend Indian buffets

India Palace in Roseville as a weekend buffet that is delicious.

Aquavit in mpls

Thanks so much!

Aquavit in mpls

Who has the best Aquavit selection in MPLS? Both in terms of retail and bar? Note: I am sure I could guess Surdyk's or Haskell's, but it would be nice to know for sure, from actual experience. Anyone know for sure?

MSP - Buster's on 28th Report

THey really do need to do something about the buns. I live nearby and was very excited about this place, but twice now I've had burgers there, and both times the bun was way too big, and dry, like other posters have mentioned. My guess is that the size and dryness are related, actually, since with a smaller bun, more of the grease gets soaked up. My wife and I love Baker's wife, but maybe these buns just aren't a great match. I wish they had a comment box at the place. Question: is it appropriate to politely give feedback to the server about my bun opinions?

Minneapolis delicacies

Different strokes, really. No right or wrong, or understanding necessary. I personally like it because sometimes I want crust, sometimes I want no crust. Somtimes I want a little crusty "corner" piece, and sometimes a saggy middle piece. It's like a little adventure, and it's diverse, just like MN these days!

Shawarma in Minneapolis?

Shish on Grand Avenue in St. Paul has some good stuff.

Lox in Minneapolis

About the comment about NYC lox, it seems to me that that might not be the standard, considering how good the scandanavians are with salmon, and considering that there is a sizable scandanavian population here. It seems like there would be some good specialty lox here

Lox in Minneapolis

Where is the best place to get lox (to go) in Minneapolis? Anywhere besides Lunds or Byerly's? And please, no conversation about bagels and NYC.

Minneapolis Pheasant

Have you had pheasant from there?

Minneapolis Pheasant

I am hoping to make a roast pheasant for my visiting friend this coming week, and would like some advice as to where to find it in Minneapolis.

Breakfast sausages MSP

The best non-brat (breakfast) sausages I've ever had came from Clancy's in Linden Hills. They have many types, but I had some that had a bit of vanilla bean in them that were especially good. I went there initially because the best bacon I've ever had also came from there.

MSP Bagels in the Twin Cities [split from "Donuts in MSP" thread]

Yes, I've had them in NYC at least a dozen times. While I admit that they are good, are they the be all end all? No. To each his own, I say. Locally, I would much rather have Breuggers.

Minneapolite on da Range

what is blue collar about it?

What's the best thing you've eaten recently? [MSP]

Fresh berries with Cool whip.

MSP Bagels in the Twin Cities [split from "Donuts in MSP" thread]

and brother's deli, but I am convinced that they hype over NY Bagels is just that, hype, and regionalism.

Salad Bar

But this person didn't say where they wanted to know about. Why link to past threads when you can start a new one?

Picosa mpls

has anyone been to this new place? I'm almost committed to going, but I am curious about the price range, since they don't list it on the web site.

Salad Bar

Do you mean anywhere in all of Wisconsin, MN, and Iowa?

Cobb Salad/Club Sandwich, Dwntn MPLS

I'm open to improvisation, of course, but what's most important to me is that the ingredients be as fresh as possible, and as little processed as possible. For instance, it's very disappointing when on the club the meat is clearly from a package and is round. The bacon has to be good, the bread should be crisp and not too thin, and I don't necessarily care if it's double decker or not. The key elements of a club are toast, turkey, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato. But, for instance, why not arugala instead of lettuce. Additions welcome. But fresh with a nice presentation is good.

As for the Cobb Salad: for me spinach, egg, bacon, and tomatoes are the basics. Other than that, I like improvisation. But, like the sandwich, the ingredients shoudl be top notch. And it should look nice.
