parisian in chicago for the day - best spicy food within walking distance of downtown?

I have a friend who will be in Chicago next week. she's never been to the States before as far as I know. She's staying at the Sheraton downtown and has a free day to wander, basically from the Magnificent Mile down to the Art Institute. I want to suggest some great food for her to try that she couldn't get at home! (I'm from Chicago myself). She won't have access to a car and will be on her own. What's good, casual, and unique to Chicago that's accessible to this area (mexican/asian etc.?) My own suggestions would involve taking her way out of the area (Korea town, etc) so I thought I'd check for suggestions here. Also looking for somewhere she'd be comfortable eating alone.

Looking for a lost Korean restaurant

I think that might be it! I thought at first it was Cho sun ok but that wasn't it (checked it out last night). But has Gin Go Gae closed?

Looking for a lost Korean restaurant

I'm trying to find a Korean place that I last went to years ago, not sure if it still exists. I remember the decor was very plain & sort of dark; very unpretentious place with food that seemed quite authentic. Possibly on North Lincoln, Lakeview-ish or above--does this ring any bells?

rec. for good, affordable japanese?

Thanks for the recs so far! I'm basically looking at anywhere from south side up to Lincoln park area, loop is fine as well. We won't want to leave the city. I live in Hyde Park and my parents are staying in the Gold Coast area, so a range within the city is fine.

rec. for good, affordable japanese?

I'm looking for a restaurant for a family dinner; good sushi would be nice but not everyone in the group likes it, so am also looking for somewhere that has other good options (soup, etc.). Not _too_ pricey so not at the very top of the list, I guess. Thanks!

help with rec. for birthday dinner

My parents are coming to town for my dad's birthday--had intended to take him to Boka but they are closed for a private party that day. Should be something that has a decent amount of seafood or vegetarian, not too loud, maybe new in the last year or so? I've searched the threads but am a little confused about pricing--our budget doesn't stretch to Alinea, etc. Neighborhood not imp. Any thoughts?
