What, if any, scraps do you put outside for the local wildlife?

I used to do this but I found out it can be more harm than good...

Augusta, Maine

Without knowing details of price, cuisine, etc...I would suggest Slates. Wide variety of very competent food, nice space, open for lunch.

Looking for the Best Burgers in NH

No, they are different, but Pine is quite good too. And the Murph burger has been around far longer than Pines.

Do you think that a guy should always pay for Dinner on the 1st date?

I don't know. I'm an educated, professional independent woman. And I love that my (now) SO insisted on paying on our first dates. He still does, but I reciprocate by cooking meals he loves. He also stands up when I leave the table, opens every doors, and walks on the curb side of the street. I find these chivalrous gestures lovely. JMHO

Maybe it seems sexist. And as a generational point of reference, we are 40.

New Hampshire Inn for Thanksgiving

Right across the NH border in VT is the Woodstock Inn. They do Thanksgiving, the Inn is lovely and there are lots of things for foodies and non foodies to do.

3 Days in December With Clueless, Carb Free Boyfriend

OK, he eats raw hamburger out of the fridge on a daily basis, but I really do love him. He also spent the first 22 years of his life in Westchester and never heard of Luger until yesterday. You get the picture.

So, we are coming down from northern New Hampshire/Vermont (if you ever find yourself in Hanover, let me know) for 3 nights Dec 15-17. Set for breakfast and lunch because he has a conference.

Three things he loves:
steak, sashimi and Italian that is fish heavy. Obviously pasta, bread, rice quality etc are irrelevant. I dont eat it either.

We are in our 40's so trendy cool does not need to be a factor, but I would like atmospheres that are romantic (or at least not bright and loud) or clubby.

Both non drinkers.

Anywhere in Manhattan is fine.
Price? Let's say 150-200 with tax tip is ok. Remember, we don't drink and are actually both pretty light eaters. When we go out here, we'll typically order a bunch of sashimi and that's it.

So...can I get 3 suggestions that fit in those categories?

Thank you, awesome New Yorkers. We rarely get away without the blended family of 4 teenagers so I'd love to take off my LL Bean boots, put on a black dress and make this fun.

Soft Shell Crab, and yes, I know it's october

So the BF is craving soft shells. I have explained to him that they are going to be frozen and he's ok with that. So two questions:
where can i buy them frozen to cook at home?
are they on the menu at any place year round but NOT batter fried? Pan sauteed, just no flour or breading.

yes, he is not a chowhound.

Location and price not important

new thai restaurant in hanover,nh

It's called Thai Orchid ...They have a Facebook page with a menu but no web site yet. I usually won't review a place until its been open for a little while, but first experience was pretty mediocre and expensive. Watery curry with little spice. I will absolutely try them again in a month or so as I would love to see a good place succeed!

Café Plume: Since when it is OK to ask a customer to leave before they finish their food?

Ah, thanks. in that case, OP, you were in the wrong. Cafe may have handled badly, but taking 90 minutes to finish a pastry that most of us consume in 10 mins max while people were waiting for seats is not ok.

Sorry, you are in the wrong if you pretend not to understand. If you want them to be transparent you must be as well. They may have been deceitful, but you admittedly were. Nuff said.

Your Best restaurant experience as a child? [before HS age]

My family was frugal in general, but every year, the week before Christmas, we had lunch at Le Bec Fin. This started when I was 6 or 7 and continued through my 30's! I discovered the magic of escargot, truffles and foie early on due to this one lunch a year.
