Looking for bakeries
thank you. FYI in NYC you can order fantastic decorated cookies from Amy's (Ninth Avenue around 45th Strreet)
Looking for bakeries
I also am looking for a bakery near Georgetown Law that makes good decorated cookies (like Amy's in NYC). Any ideas?
Downtown romantic anniversary dinner
I second Le Gigot. I definitely do not think Redhead is romantic -- it is noisy.
Looking for a modest setting for the weekend.
Perry Street is pretty fancy. I like Malatesta, cash only, Washington (?) and Christopher, near the river so nice for a walk afterward. There is that hummus place on Waverly that everyone raves about, between 11th and Perry.
Cupcakes in the Village?
I prefer Amy's on Bleecker Street -- very flavorful cake. Magnolia cupcakes are way too sweet and frosting is chemically tasting
Cupcakes that don't taste like a stick of butter
Amy's -- their cupcakes have a sweet frosting that is not chemically tasting (Magnolia and its offspring) or too buttery (Cupcake Cafe), and the cake has very good flavor, not too sweet and has a good moist texture. I confess that I often still choose Cupcake Cafe when I am buying cupcakes to impress (visually).
Healthy Lunch in Midtown West/ Hell's Kitchen
Definitely! Azuri! the owner is a maniac and the food is Very fresh and good
Dinner and music.
Cornelia Street Cafe - decent food, excellent music, comedy, and storytelling. Old Village place owned by artists and writers.
Anyone been to Cabrito?
Go on a week night and sit at the bar and you will be Very Well Taken Care of.
Are there any authentic French patisseries in the city?
Agree -- Patisserie Claude (Pablo's place) -- My favorites -- the very light and crispy plain croissants - fresh out of the oven (3 feet from counter) in the morning (I find the pain au chocolate a little too sweet and don't often eat almond croissants), unmatchably delicious coffee eclair with not too sweet filling and slightly sweeter frosting, small assortment of very small pretty and delicious cookies good for parties. The little quiches are nourishing and tasty (good ingredients) if not pretty.
Why can't NY understand the croissant?
Chez Laurence is closed. They also had the best so full of fruit flavor home made jams which they served and sold by the jar.
Why can't NY understand the croissant?
I agree Patisserie Claude on West 4th is the Best for croissants, fresh out of the oven hot in the morning, crisp, flaky, all butter, though now that Claude has retired, we will have to see if Pablo carries on the tradition.
Patisserie Claude "under new management"
Aiiiiiiiiiii! He was the greatest!!! the greatest croissants!!! the greatest coffee eclairs!!! And entitled to be a little cranky because he was so good and because he worked so hard to be so good. Glad Pablo will be there but it will not be the same. Good luck Claude, take good care of yourself . . . . Enjoy your swimming . . . .
