Quiet Weeknight Dinner?

Any suggestions for a quiet restaurant downtown, preferably falling in the category of casual fine dining? My dad is coming into town for a weeknight dinner and is a bit hard of hearing, and he hates having to struggle to follow conversation. We'll be around the Four Seasons-- the restaurant doesn't necessarily have to be right in walking distance, but shouldn't take more than 20-30 min to get to using public transit. In the past I've taken him to places like Bistro 110 and Cafe des Architectes, so I'm just trying to think of something new to try out.

Hugo's Frog Bar Cake?

I've heard a lot about the gigantic cakes served here--the slices that can easily serve 4-6 hungry people. I'm somewhat skeptical about them, since I've often found oversized desserts are gimmicky rather than actually good-- any opinions on if they're worth checking out?
