Anybody know where you can buy fresh dandelion roots? Hollywood Farmers' Market had them last Sunday. |

Their Braised Goat sandwich served during lunch is delicious. |

Restaurants near Disney Concert Hall - suitable for kids/teens Mendocino Farm, Starry Kitchen, Blue Cow Kitchen or Ocho Mexican Grill on Grand Ave. Alternatively, take Angel's Flight down to Grand Central Market. I like MF Gourmet inside the market. There's also a Local Express at the entrance to the market. |

Sunday brunch near Disney Hall? For casual brunch: Or you could try Pie Hole in Little Tokyo. They open at 11am on Sunday. Or further afield, there is Nick's Cafe in Chinatown, which opens at 6:30am on Sunday. Industriel just opened on 6th and Grand; I walked by there this afternoon and the server said that they will be serving brunch starting June...(for your next event :) http://mfgourmet.com/Menu.html |

Dining near Kyoto Grand Hotel in LA For desserts/bakeries, try the spirulina and chestnut rolls or green tea doughnuts at Cafe Dulce in Little Tokyo or mini sweet and savory pies at Pie Hole (opposite Wurstkuche). If you are willing to venture downtown, I've been enjoying the scones at M F Gourmet, the new bakery inside Grand Central Market. |

Jackfruit in syrup is "ripe" jackfruit and will not work for your recipe. Baby jackfruit is "unripe" jackfruit and used in savory preparations. India Sweets and Spices might have what you are looking for. I go to the shop on Los Feliz Blvd. But they have a store in Culver City too, I think. |

911! Surprise guests coming in on the train: where to eat close-ish to Union Station? For dinner, Traxx is an option. You can also hop on the Gold Line from Union Station and go one stop to the Little Tokyo/Arts District station. There are plenty of restaurants in Little Tokyo that offer non-rice meals. I would recommend Spice Table or Wurstkuche. If not, you could venture downtown to the newly-opened Artisan House, on 6th and Main. ----- Wurstkuche The Spice Table Artisan House |

Business breakfast downtown: new possibilities? Arda's Cafe downtown is another option -- they open at 6:30 am: http://www.ardascafe.com/Ardas_Cafe/B... ----- |

Trader Joe's Yea/Nay Thread - 4th quarter 2011 [OLD] Yea: frozen polenta with spinach and carrots. The frozen "pellets" of polenta allow you to use only the amount you need -- very convenient. I added chopped fresno peppers before microwaving. |

Help for visiting San Francisco chowhound If you are interested in Italian food for the family dinner downtown, maybe you should try Colori Kitchen. For Brazilian, try Wood Spoon. For interesting Asian fusion, try Starry Kitchen. All three suggestions are reasonably priced. ----- Wood Spoon Starry Kitchen |

Your favorite restaurants for healthy food Have you tried Eco-Asian in DTLA (opposite SugarFish)? Supposed to be a place for healthy noodles...I haven't tried it yet... Coming soon to 7th St in DTLA, I heard, was a chain called Freshii, where you customize salads etc. (like Loose Leaf?) |
|

Cheap eats near The Standard Downtown You could try St. Vincent's Court (I think it's called), a collection of Armenian/Persian restaurants and cafes in the Jewellery District off 7th and Olive (?) or thereabouts. If you do a search, there will be some recommendations... |

New Trader Joe's Yea/Nay Thread - 2nd Quarter 2011 [old] Thai-style Vegetable Gyoza: horrid, mushy, will not buy again |
|
|
New Trader Joe's Yea/Nay Thread - 2nd Quarter 2011 [old] Tried the Asparagus Risotto for the first time: quick and serviceable dinner for two with roasted asparagus from the Hollywood Farmers Market on the side. Spiced pineapple -- very addictive. |

Wonderful food in places off Chowhound radar? Lynwood, for example. I've enjoyed La Huasteca in the Plaza at 3150 E Imperial Hwy (310) 537-8800. Rocio, the chef who used to be at Moles La Tia cooks there now. I've been a few times -- would go more often if it was closer to me. ETA: I guess this should be disqualified because I see some chowhounders have discussed this in the past...? ----- Moles La Tia |

Downtown near (or easy from) Union Station For Banh Mi, I like Banh Mi My Dung which is in Chinatown (314 Ord Street). For tacos, you should take the Gold Line to East LA and try Guisados. Or check out Ricky's Fish Tacos (you'll have to take the red line and then walk a few blocks to the Sunset Junction area.) For Mole, try Moles La Tia, accessible on the Gold Line. From Union Station, you can use the subway system to get very quickly to Little Tokyo (Gold Line), East LA (Gold Line), Koreatown (Red and Purple Line), Thai Town (Red Line) etc. Here are some past threads on restaurants accessible by subway: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/436632 http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/436841 ----- Guisados |

Is it just me or have Trader Joes pie crusts been sweetened? I can't imagine how you could use the crust that gothamcity and I bought for savory preparations... Did we just get an overly-sweet batch? |

Is it just me or have Trader Joes pie crusts been sweetened? I had never tried the TJ's crusts until a few months ago. I used one for a quiche and it was too sweet for me. I thought I had mistakenly bought the sweet crust. Did your package have a picture of a fruit pie on it? |

Most Mouth Watering Scenes in Film The scene in "I Am Love" where Tilda Swinton's character eats the succulent prawns that the young chef has prepared specially for her. |

I second what Mr Taster said at 3:19pm: being near Union Station, you can use the subway system to get very quickly to Little Tokyo (Gold Line), East LA (Gold Line), Koreatown (Red and Purple Line), Thai Town (Red Line) etc. Here are some past threads on restaurants accessible by subway: And downtown LA apparently has a coffee row, if you are interested in doing a coffee crawl: ----- |

Can you help me narrow down my choices? From your starting point at LA Live, you can jump on the subway and enjoy a host of restaurants during your afternoons off. From LA Live, Pico Station (Blue Line) is only a 2 minute walk and the 7th Street Metro Station (connections to Red Line and Purple Line) is only a 7 minute walk. Here is a list of restaurants accessible by the Gold Line (the Lazy Ox is a hop, step and a jump away if you use the subway and a $3 round-trip): And here is a list of restaurants accessible the Red Line: Here's the LA metro website if you want to plan your trip: |
