Restaurants at the new Santa Monica Place

Pasta, I can confirm it was NOT a chain. I remember that clearly -- but I don't happen to remember what the place was called...

Best Milkshakes

Where can I go for a fantastic milkshake? Particularly in the Valley, but open to anywhere.

What's going on at the Baba Grill on Burbank Blvd, Van Nuys??

bump. Has anybody been to this place yet?

Good Thin-Crust Pizza on Westside?

I shouldn't have looked at that link, because now I'm hungry and angry. After too many bad pizza experiences since moving to the Valley, I've been limited to Trader Joe's Pizza Parlano, Mulberry Street, and my only occasional visit through the pass to Joe's. I lack the confidence to try anywhere else around here anymore. :(

Peanut butter at Costco

I used to get Laura Scudder's at Costco, but it seems they no longer carry it... at least in Van Nuys. Now they just have Skippy and Kirkland organic. Has anybody noticed Laura Scudder's at other Costcos? I'm trying to get the two huge mamajama jars.

Van Nuys, California

Everyone seems to love Lido Pizza, but I don't understand the appeal at all. Pretty bland and mushy the couple times I tried it. But I'd really like to give Adrian's a shot.

I think the Mexican joint with the orange sign is La Fogata!

Sit-down burgers in the Valley

Thanks, all. I think Boneyard, Hamlet, Larsens and Mistral--as different as they are--may be on the right track!

Sit-down burgers in the Valley

Hello--We have some guests from abroad, and I'd like to take them out for burgers. My ideal would be The Counter, but we're in Sherman Oaks and would like to stay fairly close by. Is there a nice sit-down place around here that has great burgers? Or should I not be ashamed to bring them to In n Out?

Best Fish 'n Chips in LA?

Does the fish at Malibu Seafood on PCH qualify in this 7-year-old discussion? I can't vouch for the chips, but the fish is pretty addictive.

Lunch between LAX and MDR

I recently went to a wedding in Westchester and the reception was in Cerritos, where there are lots of Chinese seafood places to choose from... Lunchtime traffic might not be so bad? It's a straight shot down the 105.

chocolate croissants in OC or LA

I confess the same ABP guilty pleasure, Pei. It was my first, too.
Authenticity? Questionable. Big hunka chocolate and butter in my belly? DEFINITELY.

Good breakfast spots near Century City?

Looks like I just didn't know what to get--pumpkin and caramel? I'll go.

Good breakfast spots near Century City?

Clementine is always packed, so it isn't really a good place for kids (wonderful eats, though!)... I don't understand the big deal about John O'Groats. It is kid-friendly, and the service is great, but the food was so underwhelming the time I tried it that we haven't had a reason to go back.
An admittedly odd recommendation for families in that area is the counter service at Harper's Express at the Century City food court. They make a mean breakfast panini and, depending how little your litte ones are, there is a family room (with changing tables, kid furniture, and even a nursing area) only a few feet away.

Westside dinner with the kid

Would like to go out for an early early NYE dinner, but we'll have our one-year-old in tow. We know we can't go anywhere too fancy, but we don't want to slum it, either. A tablecloth would be nice.
Any suggestions for a nice place that would not be averse to a high chair?
I've never been to Babalu, but for whatever reason that came to mind... Are they anti-baby?

Crunchie: a candy bar from the UK...

I'm really surprised. You could try around the corner from there at King's Head. Or there is a Sainsburys Deli on Wilshire at the corner of Amherst that sells Brit candy. If you see Violet Crumble I think that's the same thing but it isn't Cadbury's chocolate.

Century City farmer's market

That's a good selection. Thanks for the thorough report! I couldn't make it today, but I think next week I am going to try the African samosa! The Thai/Mex/BBQ thing sounds kind of like the place they opened up in the same strip mall as Good Stuff Burgers. Umm. I think that's the location. All the strip malls tend to blur into the same place. I wasn't keen on trying it when I saw a physical restaurant, but I think it'd be more approachable at the farmer's market for some reason.
I'm going to try to remember re: the lemon almonds, Molly!

Neptune's Net vs Malibu Seafood

Yes, the consensus here is right. Malibu Seafood is leaps and bounds better than Neptune's Net. MS has a fish market on one side, and you order on the other side. All the seating is outdoors. Fish and chips are great--the clam strips are usually overdone but I'd gobble them anyway. Chowder is passable considering we're in L.A. Parking there can be a nightmare at lunchtime--be careful because you have to pay to park in the adjoining lot. Though it has never been so bad that I had to cross PCH! Eek! Neptune's Net is OK but only because there is nowhere else to go out there!

Whole Foods/Mashti Malone's

I went to the Gayley Ave. Whole Foods and they did not carry Mashti pints. I was disappointed to say the least. Has anybody seen these at other Westside locations?

I've heard the CC farmer's market has reopened. Has anyone been? Are there any interesting food vendors? (aside from the fruits and veg, natch...)

downtown disney

I'd definitely stay away from Brennnan's for a special occasion dinner. I went there and was very disappointed by the food. Service was great, but the food was everything you would expect from Disney.

What's the big deal about Dinah's?

I had their chicken twice. I don't get it. And their green beans might as well have been canned.

Sepulveda/Palms dessert

Hi all--I drove past a place today on the southeast corner of Sepulveda and Palms (across from Trader Joes and Albertsons) that looked like a Japanese ice cream place. I'm rarely in this neighborhood so I don't know if it's new. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and has anybody tried this place? I'm intrigued. The sign said something like "A Dessert Place." Hot damn I'm intrigued.
