Middle Eastern Ice Cream in Manhattan?

I've just been hit with a craving for Middle Eastern ice cream -- the wonderful, stretchy mastic-y kind... Is there anywhere in Manhattan I can get it??

Favorite (and Least Favorite) Party Foods

Nooooo...Dont stop the crudite platter, Emme! Please!! This is what I survived on over the holidays -- I am vegetarian, so pretty much anything vegetarian looked like ambrosia to me. Everyone else was saying "I'm stuffed", "I couldn't possibly eat another bite", etc, while I was mentally computing how to score the largest piece of pumpkin pie. Those eggplant skins sound great, though!

Favorite (and Least Favorite) Party Foods

OK people, the holiday season is pretty much over: what were your faves and not-so-faves of the parties you went to? Did anything prove to be a pleasant surprise? Were there things that you were tempted to spit right out onto the floor? Tell all.

Dinner near Congress Theater -- HELP!!

Thank goodness I missed the nasty BBQ -- being vegetarian, that would be a double whammy!

Dinner near Congress Theater -- HELP!!

Thank you -- Fuego sounds great, and I LOVE that you can make reservations. I'm a little bit of a control freak, I think.

Dinner near Congress Theater -- HELP!!

My husband and I are visiting beautiful Chicago at the end of next week. Usually, our trips there take us to the Gold Coast, but this time, we are going to attend an event at the Congress Theater, and we have NO IDEA where to eat. We generally like ethnic food in a non-ratty (does not need to be fancy though) location. Expensive or cheap would both be OK. We are staying on N. Michigan, and we will not have a car, so that might affect your recommendations, too. Thank you, thank you!

Staying in Union Square for 4 days..

My husband and I are going to be staying in Union Square starting this Saturday. We won't have a car, but are perfectly happy to take cabs around. We would really appreciate suggestions for great Italian and ethnic (Mexican, Chinese, Ethiopian, Indian, Thai) food that would be suitable for a vegetarian (me) for either lunch or dinner. My husband is from northern Italy, so no nouveau-Italian, please! As long as the food is good, we are pretty flexible in terms of price, from cheap to $100/person. It would be good if the places are not too grungy, although they do not need to be fancy. Many, many thanks!!

Best olive oil?

Have you tried going to O & Co http://www.oliviersandco.com/FO/ ? There you can sample all of their oils before choosing one. They have several very good Italian oils, ranging from very mild to quite peppery. Yes, the prices are high, but I think that it is worth it if you are going to use the oil itself as a flavoring, rather than just for sauteeing.

Panettone? Help!

Italian 0 flour tends to be lower in protein than all purpose american flour. I think that pastry flour would be a better bet than bread flour, which tends to have even more protein than all purpose. As an alternative, you might want to give King Arthur Flour's Italian-style flour http://www.kingarthurflour.com/shop/d....

Does Anyone Have a Bread Maker?

I have a Zojirushi mini, which I LOVE. The French bread setting, which takes about 5 hours, gives you a very crusty bread that does hold up to my panini press. The other great thing about this machine is that it has a timer.

If I want baguettes (husband is from Italy), I make the ones out of the Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day -- fantastic and very, very easy.

Takeout fresh gnocchi?

I have the same issue with the vacuum-packed gnocchi, and I have found that the easiest solution is to make them myself. I use the Cook's Illustrated recipe, and my Italian-born husband completely approves.

Need rec for birthday celebration

I have had brunch at Aujourd'hui, and in all honestly, I did not feel that it was worth the price -- definitely inferior to Four Seasons in other cities. Henrietta's would get my vote.

Group in DuPont Circle

Hello, I am trying to find a place that would be good for a group of about 15 people near DuPont Circle. It doesn't need to be cheap, but it can't bee too expensive. Thanks so much for your help!

Pittsburgh - time for only one dinner!

9 on 9, without a doubt is the place that you should go. I am vegetarian, and I would take a trip to Pittsburgh just to eat at that place. They do not necessarily advertise the vegetarian menu, but they can accomodate every request flawlessly.

I have also been to Eleven, and while it was good, it was not up to 9 on 9.
