Savory Chocolate Recipes?

Thanks, everyone, these are all wonderful suggestions! I'm very excited to try the French bread (with and without the Chorizo), and if I'm bold enough, perhaps try my hand at a venisson sauce.

Savory Chocolate Recipes?

I have some Scharffen Berger left-over chocolate (i think it's semi-sweet, 70% cocoa) and I'd love to try a savory recipe for once.

I've never used chocolate in non-dessert dishes before...any recommendations for good dishes to start with?

Thanks in advance :)

European visiting Portland

I agree with SauceSupreme. Unless you're a hardcore vegetarian/hippie, I probably would say to pass on Laughing Planet.

I went once and it was fun, but I wouldn't take a guest/friend there unless they fit into the description above :)

Old Town Pizza is an interesting experience. The decor isn't very Portland, but the culture of how your food gets served is pretty cool.

Also - make sure you have Stumptown coffee. :) Portland people love their coffee!

Great foodie lunch place in PDX (for business meeting)?

Yep, that's the one, Gubanc's in Lake Grove. My bad for botching up the name!

Buying a Whole Duck in Portland, OR?

Thanks, everyone!

I ended up going to Uwajimaya, but they only had frozen ducks. I'm sure that's the case with most other places too. I'm getting ready to cook another peking duck fairly soon, so I'll actually have time to look into the other places a bit more (and hopefully get a fresh, local duck).

Great foodie lunch place in PDX (for business meeting)?

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions. We ended up going to a place that wasn't downtown, called Guban (or Gubans) in the Tigard area. Pretty good soul food and comfy atmosphere.

I am really grateful for this forum though, you guys are a great resource! I now have a huge list of exciting Portland food places to explore.

Great foodie lunch place in PDX (for business meeting)?

My boss, who is a pretty big foodie, is taking me out to lunch. I know a lot of great PDX restaurants, but most open for dinner....any suggestions for a unique/interesting/awesome lunch place in the downtown area?

...and don't say the carts!

Thanks in advance :)

Great Sushi -Portland

Interesting! I have to try out the ramen there then. I have only had sushi at Hakatamon and it was ok.

Went to SushiTown last night - the setup is like Sushiland, but the staff is much friendlier and welcomes new patrons in Japanese :)

Buying a Whole Duck in Portland, OR?

Thanks for all your suggestions! I'll definitely check out some of these places I've never been heard of yet (Viande, Sheridan Fruit, and Kookoolan Farms)

Happy cooking!

Great Sushi -Portland

If you're looking for high end, then yes, Murata and Hiroshi are the places you want to go. If you're looking for slightly better than Sushiland (there's nowhere to go but up!), then you can try Masu or even the Uwajimaya store - there's a restaurant attached to the store and the store itself is kinda fun to visit :)

Enjoy Portland!

Buying a Whole Duck in Portland, OR?

Hi there,

I'm trying to buy a whole duck and cook it in the authentic Peking Duck recipe. Any suggestions for the best place to buy a whole duck?

I'm thinking FuBonn or maybe Uwajimaya, but I'd love to get it from a regular Safeway/Fred Meyer if other readers found that they carry such meats and are usually good quality.

Thanks in advance for your help! :)
