Breadberry

Went to Breadberry on Friday. In a word - disappointing. In most respects it's an inferior Pomegranate copy. Design of store and format are copied. Prices are similar (high). But, smaller, there are fewer choices and meat doesn't seem to be same quality. If I were Pomegrenate I would be very unhappy with the misappropriation of the look. On quality and selection - I won't be back. I'd much rather go to Pomegranate.

KFP ricotta cheese?

Though there's certainly plenty else to do in the kitchen, it's pretty easy to make one's own excellent Ricotta.

Did I make a faux pas?

Fascinating that the original post about narrow minded ness is responded to by posters suggesting that only their particular Orthodox values or rabbis are valid. Why promote your own narrow view at the expense of spoiling everyone's camaraderie on this board?

Did I make a faux pas?

I'm sorry if this was upsetting but there is a clear policy on this board not to comment on the acceptability/quality of kosher supervision as it quickly goes off topic and may become negative. The fact of a single complaint at your event illustrates the problems that comments on this topic might raise. I hope that in any event you enjoyed the event and received many compliments for your hard work!

Which food products available only in Israel are worthy to bring to the US?

What food products available in Israel but not in the US are worth bringing back? The last discussion on this topic was in 2008, so would love an update. Thanks!

Good Israeli Kosher Ouzo and also Champagne sourcing in NYC

2 questions:

A family member is going to Israel and I'm looking for a recommendation for a good Kosher ouzo for cooking and drinking?

Also looking for availability of decent Kosher champagne in NYC this season - under $50. What's good on the market this year - and where to find it?

Thanks!

I'm also a fan of the restaurant, that's why I suggested it. And agree about the turnip cakes!

anthony bourdain in jerusalem - parts unknown on sunday at 9pm, CNN

Was anyone on TimeWarner successful in seeing it? I searched via my Tivo and haven't been able to find the episode. It was heavily promoted. Disappointed... and wondering why?

Corky's in Memphis is doing it again!

My experience last time was very mixed. I had two separate orders - a family sized order and an order for a synagogue dinner.

The quality of the food at the synagogue dinner (for which the food was frozen and defrosted) was good, though not intensely smoky and somewhat salty, certainly not at the level of extraordinary. And the portions were so incorrectly stated that I ended up having to order almost double the stated portion size. But in general, the dinner attendees found it enjoyable.

The quality of the food that I ordered for my family and I served without having been frozen was substantially worse. The brisket in particular was so salty that it was almost inedible and it had almost no smoky taste.

I've eaten kosher meat my entire life and don't recall ever eating meat as salty as the brisket that arrived in my family pack.

New Kosher Pizza- 56th and Madison (NYC)

Went there Friday. Solid pizza by any standards. Crispy, thin, charred crust, balanced sauce, authentic cheese - though there could have been a bit more cheese. Salads good though not exceptional. Ample available seating in the Sony atrium. A great addition to kosher eating!

Good products for Passover

Let's help each other out by sharing finds - with location - of new or good chow-ish products for Passover (e.g. no Passover boxed cake mixes :-)) I'll start by noting that last year I was in search of olives that didn't taste exactly like the can they came in and have already found that Oxygen (so far) has 3 different kinds for Passover. Found them at Prime Butcher Baker, NYC, Upper East Side.

Kosher BBQ Delivered...Limited Time!

Yes, the listed portion sizes were not accurate - as I found when I priced a synagogue dinner based on the web site info, got the reservations and then placed the order. I had to order about 1.5 times the listed portion size. I asked them to correct this in the future.

As for quality, I also ordered an individual order that we had yesterday. I thought that the ribs were delicious, but found the brisket VERY salty and not particularly BBQ flavored absent the sauce. I hope that was an anomaly in my particular order, but it was SO salty that I'm concerned about serving it at the dinner. Did anyone else have that experience? Any thoughts about how to correct for that when we serve the brisket?

Kosher BBQ Delivered...Limited Time!

I've placed an order for a shul dinner with this BBQ. We will make our own cornbread and buy cole slaw and serve beer (to the adults). Still ISO good pareve fruit pies in a place in or proximate to Manhattan - that cost less than $25 per pie. When really good pies made with butter cost $12-$15 - just can't understand this pricing.

good pareve fruit pies in NYC

I'm in search of a few good pareve fruit pies for a dinner. Since it's about a week before Pesach, My Most Favorite will not be using its pareve oven for hametz at that point. Any suggestions? And if they don't cost $25 per pie, even better.

Yeah, I'm sad when I go there and they're out of stock. I think Fairway's are the best kosher dogs.

Queens -- any hidden gems?

I've been to a few of the Bukharan places in Queens and I think that Salute is the best of them. (I thought Cheburechnaya was very greasy and didn't sit so well afterward.) Not sure if there's a more direct source for a menu, but here's this: http://www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com/bi...

Anyone know what's happening at the former Grill Palace location?

Kosher restaurant near Rockefeller center

I'm wondering when the posters who recommended Taam Tov last went there? I used to love it, but after my last visit, several months ago, no more. The menu was more limited, meat drier and not as tasty, service not pleasant (even for a Kosher restaurant, though I'm really basing this on food) - just sadly, a general decline in quality.

Oily buildup on inside of Cuisinart MCP frying pan

This has been happening with Kirkland (Costco) Canola oil - only listed ingredient - Canola oil.

Oily buildup on inside of Cuisinart MCP frying pan

Yes SS pans but not MCP. It's not really missable - it's a yellow buildup from even one use, that adheres to the inside side of the pan and won't come off. You can feel it with a finger as textured, until it's removed with 20 mins of scrubbing.

I don't have this problem with my other pans, that's what I was wondering if it might be something about the composition of this pan?

Oily buildup on inside of Cuisinart MCP frying pan

That might end up being the problem. How do you deal with that if you're only doing a small saute e.g. 1 ingredient prep?

It's happened with canola oil, which I've used in other pans without that problem.
