Buying caviar

I don't have problems with farmed Russian caviar -- it tastes as good as wild, if not better since the sturgeon is on a strict healthy diet. It's also more environmentally friendly.

Pizza with REAL mozzarella?

I can only eat pizza if it’s made with real white soft mozzarella. It does not matter if it’s di bufala or fior di latte but it has to be white, soft and fresh. Other than Bottega, are there any Montreal pizzerias that use the real mozzarella instead of the shredded “U.S. style mozzarella”?

A quality Goose

I second Claude & Henri at Atwater. I called them two days in advance to reserve a goose and got a great bird. At $18 per kilo, the goose was about $70.

Buying caviar

I do not recommend buying Iranian caviar. THE place to buy real authentic Russian caviar is La Foumagerie (4906 Sherbrooke West) in Westmount. It's expensive but you are getting the real product.

Where to buy Bolo Rei?

Does anybody know where to buy (a good) Bolo Rei? Unfortunately, I don't know much about Portuguese grocery stores in Mtl...

Le club chasse et pêche

Can't second that. I went to CCP five months ago with a business partner and actually ordered the foie gras risotto. Waaay oversalted. The main course was lamb something. The lamb turned out on the dry side. The selection of wines is great, but come on -- it's Montreal, there are very decent wines even at St-Hubert. Overall, it was not my worst dinner ever, but it would have easily been if I had to pay. Fortunately, it was my partner's turn.

blind test -- the tastiest milk is...

There's a little arab grocery store in St-Laurent that sells raw milk. Bring your bottle. They have their own farm somewhere in Quebec... They also sell excellent (and cheap) meat from the same farm: chicken, beef, and lamb. You don't have to speak Arabic to buy raw milk but, from my impression, they only sell it to regular customers. For all the obvious reasons.

blind test -- the tastiest milk is...

For many years, my wife tried to convince me that Lactantia milk was tastier than Parmalat. I was like "Come on. Milk is milk. And Parmalat is cheaper". But she kept on... so we decided to do a blind test this summer. We tried three 2% milks -- Lactantia, Parmalat, and Liberte Bio. To my surprise THEY ALL TASTE DIFFERENT!!! My final ranking turned out to be: 1) Liberte Bio; 2) Lactantia; 3) Parmalat. My wife's ranking was identical. Furthermore, we both thought that the gap between Libert Bio and Lactantia was not that significant compared to the gap between Parmalat and the other milks. My wife was right. No more Parmalat in my house. We might do the test again -- with Quebon, Natrel, PC Organics...

Foodie destinations around St. Hippolyte

I am not a poutine expert. Gourmet-wise, Bistro a Champlain in the nearby Ste-Marguerite is THE foodie destination in the area. Otherwise, you'd have to drive to St-Jerome or St-Saveur.

blueberries

U-picking around montreal is almost over. We wanted to do blueberry u-picking last weekend and called couple of places --- there were still some berries left, but only a little bit (+ overripe). So we decided to go fall strawberry u-picking instead (awesome).

are there any GREAT cheesecakes in Montreal?

I always thought Montreal cheesecakes were ok. Until I went to NYC this summer... Now, I realize that all the cheesecakes that I remember eating in Montreal (Second Cup, Broadway Cheesecake, Wawel, Premiere Moisson, Calories...) are at best unimpressive. Good, but unimpressive. Yet, I still hope that there's a place somewhere in Montreal where I can find a morning-fresh moist and reasonably sweet cheesecake that rivals the best of Manhattan... a place with a GREAT cheesecake. Do you guyz know if such a place exist?

Restaurant with a playground?

Thanks for suggesting Kavaloo! G R E A T! Very tasty simple and healthy meals and (most importantly) THE place for toddlers.

Restaurant with a playground?

Does anybody know a restaurant in Montreal (Laval, SOuth Shore) with a playground? We have two kids... 3 and 2... and regular restaurants don't seem to work. :)

business lunch near Concordia?

Can you recommend a good resto with a good lunch menu for a business meeting near Guy-Concordia? (within 5 min walk) We went to Pino on Crescent twice - it was ok. Time to try something different. Thank you!

Baby friendly resto

My wife and I would like to go to a resto to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The problem is that we have a 2-month old baby and my wife is breastfeeding. Does anyone know a baby-friendly resto in Montreal with a breastfeeding room or something of that kind? Thanks a million!

upscale Chinese for date

Hi! Can anyone recommend an upscale Chinese restaurant? I have a date with a gorgeous Chinese girl, so great food and romantic athmosphere are a must. :) I am in the Woodley Park area, but I can travel if the restaurant is really worth it. Thanks a lot for help!!!
