An old friend (she was local but now living in Portland) is in town staying at the Downtown Marriott on Broadway. I'm not an Oaklandite so I need recommendations for restaurants within a short drive from her hotel. A couple of places I'm considering:

Chez Panisse Cafe

Would love to sit outside. Any cuisine is fine. Any price point is fine.

We are a group of 30 that will be going to Beach Blanket Babylon for our XMas party on a Friday night. We need a restaurant within a short walk from the play for a dinner after the show. Ambiance (fun) needs to be better than food. Any suggestions for a restaurant that can handle this size (maybe a back room?).

We are looking for a European Style grocery store and/or bakery in the South Bay (Campbell, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara). I know Milk Pail in Mountain View is great and Trader Joe's has alot of different items. Anything else out there that I should know about?

I am having a big party next year (150 people) and want to start investigating caterers on the Peninsula. I would love something reasonable but innovative and tasty. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
