Best gourmet ice cream and patisserie?

A +1 for Fosselman's in Altedena. Really just great smooth fresh ice cream.

Italian Semolina Bread in Los Angeles?

I"m pretty much of the same mind. If you Go to La Brea Bakery on Saturday they do make a decent semolina bread, but it's pricey and still not what I grew up accustomed to. It seems like that Brick over in the Backyard I've been threatening to build to pizza now has another purpose.

Italian Semolina Bread in Los Angeles?

Good point. Perhaps a picture would help.

Meatball Subs

No, I've been there many many times. I've eaten many things off the menu but the meatball sub just hasn't made it to my mouth yet. Their Italian Beef with Hot Peppers and Mozzarella is just phenomenal. The deep dish pizza (Chicago Style) is also quite good. A buddy has had the meatball sub and said great things about it. Like I said, it Looks tasty.

Italian Semolina Bread in Los Angeles?

I've had it as well. It's a tasty loaf, just not brooklyn/new jersey itamian semolina bread.

Italian Semolina Bread in Los Angeles?

Yeah, the Eagle Rock Bakery makes a semolina bread, but it's so far from what i've had and considered good bread, that I just can't eat it.

Italian Semolina Bread in Los Angeles?

La Brea Bakery's semolina bread is good, but only available on Saturday. Not to mention it's kinda pricey. So I'm just looking for alternatives.

And as to Geographically, I live in SFV but I'm not opposed to driving to the Westside (Bay Cities) or Pasadena (Jones Coffee for Coffee Beans) to get something specific.

Meatball Subs

Have you been to Taste Chicago on N. Hollywood Way and Verdugo. Great food (although I've never had their meatballs. they do looks tasty).

Additionally, Monte Carlo on Magnolia is pretty great. I buy my sausage from there all the time (some of the best in LA IMHO).

Italian Semolina Bread in Los Angeles?

Hey All,

I'm a Jersey Italian Boy who relocated to LA a while back and I've been craving Italian Semolina bread like I grew up on. The closest I've found out here is the Semolina Bread from La Brea Bakery. You actually have to go there to get it. I've tried a few others (Eagle Rock Bakery) but they have been bad to inedible. I'm not afraid to drive, but I was wondering if anyone knew of someplace that makes it out here.

Thanks

How long can I keep a cryovacked Beef Tenderloin in the fridge?

I appreciate all the comments on this guys. Looks like I"m all good for Xmas dinner. Now I just have to finish the dining room re-model in 4 days!

Thanks!

How long can I keep a cryovacked Beef Tenderloin in the fridge?

That's great. I was worried that even in the cryo for 10 days, the meat wouldn't survive without it having to be frozen.

How long can I keep a cryovacked Beef Tenderloin in the fridge?

Was it store bought? I'm not sure how long they'd been sitting on it at the store (I don't expect too long).

How long can I keep a cryovacked Beef Tenderloin in the fridge?

I bought it Thursday the 15th for Xmas dinner on the 25th. It's cryovacked and in my fridge. Do I need to butcher and freeze it or will I be okay leaving it in the packaging until the 22/23rd when I was planning to prep it for dinner.

Thoughts? I don't want to lose an expensive piece of meat because I didn't do the right thing.

Thanks

Real Jersey subs and cheesesteaks

While I appreciate Jersey Mike's shop, it's in no way a real Jersey Sub shack. Not even close. As a Jersey Boy who now lives in LA, there's a lot of work to do to get that authentic Jersey taste. Start with the bread (yes there is a difference), then the meat (gotta be Boars Head or Thurman's). And don't forget the attitude (it does matter)

In LA there are only 2 places that hold a candle to the authentic Jersey food/vibe (and they're not sub shops). Fab's Hot Dogs in Encino. Best hot Dogs in LA. Real Jersey vibe (not just because of the rippers). They just need to get the footlong Shickhause dogs and I'll never head East again for a hot dog... And Philly's Best, I know it's a chain, but there isn't a better Philly Cheesesteak or Taylor Ham Pork Roll sandwich in Los Angeles.

Aside from that, the best Jersey type food is in my kitchen, but that's not an invitation... =-)

My New Favorite NY Style Pizza is Nonna!

Gotta agree on Brownstone. Was not impressed to go back again. I tried twice. The crust was Meh and the sauce was just plain generic. I can do better elsewhere without the trek to Eaglerock.

Poppyseeds on the Westside

Ahhh... "the People's Republic" I don't miss SM. =-)

Glendale Area - Good Burger Joint Needed

Looks interesting but it's just too far away and not really the burger joint I was hoping for. Will have tot try it though....

Glendale Area - Good Burger Joint Needed

Never been to Clancy's. It's on my to try list.

Glendale Area - Good Burger Joint Needed

Granville's great. We've taken them to the Burbank location many times before. Was just trying to find something new.

Glendale Area - Good Burger Joint Needed

Cheesecake Factory? Nah. Not really what we're looking for. My folks can get that generic kind of meal in Florida. But thanks.

Glendale Area - Good Burger Joint Needed

Hey All.

My folks are coming into town for the holidays and after their day long flight, all they want to do is relax and grab a burger. Shortly thereafter we'll be heading over to the Americana for a picture with their granddaughter and Santa.

So, I'm looking for a good table service joint that isn't a madhouse but is clean (and no dives please - at least for them).

Thoughts?

Thanks

Xmas Eve dinner in Burbank/Studio City/Glendale?

Hey all.

This year my wife and I will be hosting Xmas at our home and we have several family members coming into town. What we're looking for is a great recommendation for a restaurant in Burbank / Studio City / Glendale that can do an early Xmas Eve dinner for 8-10 including an 8 month old (we'll provide food for the 8 month old).

We'd like to stay in the immediate area so there won't be too many headaches involved in getting to and from. We're not opposed to Hollywood, just it's not our first choice.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Are There ANY Good Italian Delis in the Valley?!

Another Big Thumbs up for Monte Carlo in Burbank. http://www.montecarlodeli.com/ Their sausage is excellent as is their pizza (which you can get in their restaurant. The deserts are from the Eagle Rock Italian Deli, so there's quality from that, too.

Seeking good Carolinas-style BBQ on the Westside (vinegar-based sauce, fall-of-the-bone tender)

While I can't say it's authentic Carolina BBQ, I can't say enough great things about the Spring Street Smoke House. It's phenomenal BBQ and I head there whenever I'm downtown (which isn't all that often).

I Went to Club 33!! Wow!

Congrats! I've been once. It was pretty incredible. Just found out that they plan to open a similar "hidden" restaurant in California Adventure when they're done with the refirb. Hopefully I'll meet someone who belongs because I don't have $3000 /year dues to join the place!

Bulk lavender. Where can I find it?

If you don't mind the drive, there's a lavender farm just south of Santa Inez (15 minutes north of SB). Literally they sell by the pound. My wife makes me stop whenever we're up that way. I can dig up the info if you're interested.

Apple Farms that press into Cider?

Thanks. I'll check them out.

Apple Farms that press into Cider?

Looking for an Apple Farm in the Los Angeles Area (obviously not in the downtown area) where I can get fresh squeezed Apple Cider. Even better - you can pick your own apples and take them to a press while you enjoy some other tasty treats.

Anyone?

Thanks

HATCH CHILE ROASTING 2009 Please add dates

Completely missed out on this last year. Really want to go this year and get some. Anyone know of somewhere in the SFV doing this Burbank/Studio City area?

BEST CASUAL CUBAN RESTAURANT???

I like

Guantanamera Restaurant
916 W Burbank Blvd
Burbank, CA 91506
(818) 846-8500‎

the food is great and the service is also very good. Prices are decent and the parking is pretty good. It's across the street from a Costco.
