What's Going In Your Garden Now?

you're brill cherylptw....great explanation

my garden is really rather sad this year so far.
our winter was, well, what winter? so
the usuals didn't pop up when they should have and altho I'm finally seeing basil from seeds (how many packs of burpees do you have to plant in soil to get plants...sheeesh)
but the onions and shallots are withered with brown stems so I should dig 'em up and see if anything grew. I always get my parsley and cilantro (albeit a short growing season for cilantro).
the wind has played havoc with tender young growth and all but killed it all. I'd love tomatoes and think I'll go to the nursery and buy established plants like maybe some heirlooms.

I Love my Weber grill - Cornell chicken

I'd like to know about it when I return home to our Weber. used the Weber exclusively for years also > party no doubt because we had the methods all down finally.
I am not a fan if bbqing bk/sl or plain boneless. the time gets away from and they dry out, so am fond of bone in.

we bought a new BBQ for our camping needs yesterday. not sure what kind he bought because I stayed in truck with our gear. it was time to get new one plus other one we have stays with other gear.

what to serve with baked beans

sounds deeeeelish, filth

very sad I didn't bring baked beans on our lake Isabella camping trip. dang I knew I forgot things to add to the BBQ dinner for tonight.
potato salad
baked beans
corn muffins
pea arugula and mint salad
bbq's chicken and pork ribs

In N Out Burger question for a newbie

born and bred in southern Calif.
there are a lot of I&O's around.
no one in our family likes them or eats them, requests them or cares to run in and get one.
that said, it's often times the mission itself.
it is for me anyway. I usually find when something comes highly touted, it's a disappointment regarding the taste. The Lady&Sons comes to mind. < but the quest to rent a car from out of state drive 137 miles one way,, get lost-end up in Macon Georgia and have crazed allergies....still it was the quest.

you know what, I'd say give it a try. you may well love their burgers.but report back

Why do you continue shopping at CostCo? I am underwhelmed. What do you appreciate about the warehouse store?

I've never bought nor will I ever buy a processed boxed item like that.
I won't be bothered if you don't believe me. Not a big deal.

Why do you continue shopping at CostCo? I am underwhelmed. What do you appreciate about the warehouse store?

as I mentioned I did this years ago.
and a system of course I did have. I had it all down pat.
my husband and friends plus coworkers were shocked at how little I paid.
example: you can imagine how much it would cost to buy food for two families of 5 each for a two week houseboat trip. < late '90's
excluding alcohol of course, I bought all the food, we ate very very well, sodas and water included I spent a total of $179. meat on the BBQ every night with only 2 nights eating hot dogs or hamburgers. fresh veg and fruit-cakes cookies pies and ice cream plus you gotta have candy right. the original bill was almost $600. the friends
we went with were shocked when they saw the receipt. my husband was pleased because house boats are anything but cheap.

Champps Americana Ranch Dressing

hi GRN

I just called the Littleton Colorado Chammps for you. I spoke with Ryan the manager there.
He went back to the kitchen to check the label on the bottle as he said they get it from the supply food truck service they use. Sorry to tell you this but it's Hidden Valley. I asked if its a particular flavor as you know HV Ranch comes in a few flavors like bacon, lite, chipotle etc. he said no its just the original HV Ranch flavor.

I'm not arguing your point.

Why do you continue shopping at CostCo? I am underwhelmed. What do you appreciate about the warehouse store?

Carhy I live on a fault line myself. $20 gets me about 4 gallons of gas which isn't close to half a tank.
I don't understand what your post is about and don't need another card to carry around. all my point is I'd like to occasionally buy gas with cash.

Why do you continue shopping at CostCo? I am underwhelmed. What do you appreciate about the warehouse store?

I kept a box with categories and sectioned off and I had it memorized like the back of my hand. I knew everything in there and would go through it monthly to take out expired coups. it's a system and you either know it and use it to your advantage or you probably aren't very successful. < plus you eat very well.

Why do you continue shopping at CostCo? I am underwhelmed. What do you appreciate about the warehouse store?

they're combined coups that offer things like money off a certain brand of cereal and get a lb of bananas (.59 cents off) free. or buy one/get one free pot roast seasoning pkt and a dollar off carrots but carrots are 89 cents so they pay me .11 cents to buy the carrots.

tnx rella but not what I was fishing for....just being truthful is all.

Seeing Someone Touch Your Food

husband and i were out to dinner and asked for a box to take our food home in
the waiter gave us the box and before you knew it, his hands were literally touching my dinner as he tried to make it fit in a sandwich box instead of a size that would fit my meal. although it was a snug fit. when we got home i gave the portion that our dog could eat to her and tossed the rest, like someone said, i have no idea where that hand has been

Why do you continue shopping at CostCo? I am underwhelmed. What do you appreciate about the warehouse store?

First off I haven't done excessive couponing in years.
I always warned people behind me line that I'd take a long time checking out due to coupons: "perhaps a different cashier line is better for you", didn't like putting people out. We're not a boxed good family and don't buy 67 packages of toothbrushes just because I have that many coupons for them even if that means the stores would pay me to use the coupons. I've seen those extreme couponing tv shows and was no where near that crazed.
And yes fresh fruits and vegetables plus lots of meat, breads and eggs were included in my purchasing almost free foods.

Why do you continue shopping at CostCo? I am underwhelmed. What do you appreciate about the warehouse store?

its not patience necessarily that it takes to coupon. I liked that our family could easily take vacations, do 2 weeks on a houseboat, a month in Yellowstone. we could only do that because we had literally almost no money spent on grocery bills. I was that into it and that good at it. CostCo comes nowhere close. plus cheese is cheese. I don't care the brand of cheddar I buy, I care that the kids love grilled cheese sandwiches using cheddar cheese and the cost > pennies. I love mayonnaise so collecting 6 coupons for Best Foods, figuring out which market had it on sale + a buy one get one, I'd end up with 6 (1/2 year supply) and couple that with a store having unlimited doubling or tripling of coupons, they'd end up costing 6 cents each. < just 1 example: CostCo offers no such deals.

Why do you continue shopping at CostCo? I am underwhelmed. What do you appreciate about the warehouse store?

gas stations have slots where you put the bills in. with CostCo they could have you put your card in (that way it's verified) then stick your cash in ($10's or a $20) or these days the monetary bill is a 'C' note :( even at CostCo.

Why do you continue shopping at CostCo? I am underwhelmed. What do you appreciate about the warehouse store?

collecting coupons was almost like a professional job.
everyone gave me their Sunday Times and Thursday food sections and I'd sit on the kitchen floor and clip away. dumb as it sounds there is a way of getting groceries for pennies and I did that with frequency. plus we ate really well. nothing like the coupons at CostCo, no comparison. totally different animal.

Granola - can molasses be substituted for honey?

we prefer a •kitchen sink• type granola. meaning everything goes in.
with the ingredients that make it hearty and robust like dried fruits and nuts plus the juice, sweetener and spices it's plenty sweet enough.

we went to a B&B in Cambria a couple years ago and their granola was the best. I asked what gave it the strong cinnamon flavor (wondering how many tablespoons of cinnamon she was going to tell me). it had to be 1/2 a bottle is what i thought.
she said they make their own cinnamon infused oil. they sell it there too, surprise.........
it's used in the granola and gives a major punch of flavor. like that idea.

Trisha Yearwood's New Show: Will you watch?

I'm glad it turned out good for you.
but I wasn't a huge fan and I realize it's my fault but I'm not willing to go the overboard route she does.I will however make her dads 3 meat Brunswick stew with biscuits and her crack salty sweets. I won't hold back but I'll end up taking the sweets to work before eating too much. for me, much like Nigellas hokey pokey, it'd be a weakness. I know that in advance.

Have you ever eaten at a restaurant that got made over BEFORE the makeover, and then saw it on TV?

yep and then it got its makeover and now it's back to old tactics.

Mexico One Plate at a Time

MT + his show both elude my interest thus far.

Mexico One Plate at a Time

I'm not saying she isn't cute or anything I just don't see the point of her being on. What does her presence bring to the show?
FCOL can RB not carry his own show?

Mexico One Plate at a Time

I get no enjoyment out of PD's sons AT ALL.
To me they are filler. Plus one has his own show but before they did their road trip together. Gad why do we have to watch these sons have TV shows just because their mother is PD? I'm pretty much over her anyway with the current news she's chosen to hide from her viewers but that's OT, sorry.

Mexico One Plate at a Time

"I'm also not a fan of Bayless's daughter and Jacque Pepin's daughter on TV. I really don't think they add anything to the show."

Agree. Plus I want to watch them do their thing which they are both highly acclaimed for. If I want to watch a Father/Daughter show I'll turn on reruns of •Father Knows Best• as at least that was entertaining.

Mexico One Plate at a Time

LIDIA and her daughter are fine by me as well, I'm not put off at all by her or her adorable mother. As much as I don't enjoy admitting this Joe to me is a handsome man who comes across (to me anyway and quite possibly I'm wrong) as being very full of himself. So I prefer to simply watch him from afar or on that MasterChef show where he's one of the judges.

Mexico One Plate at a Time

"Not as big a hinderance as Jacques Pepin's daughter, Caludine was."

ooooooo major BINGO!!!

we all love our children duh but 'what' did Claudine have to offer at all in any sense?

Kelsey's Essentials

ok you posters. I got the msg. I'll start taping it.
tnx for the info, love how someone said its the best.

BTW: I've made (embarrassed to say) some of SL's recipes like her pot roast and a couple of other unmemorable items. the pot roast failed miserably.

HIP COFFEE PLACE "A LA STUMPTOWN" IN THE QUARTER OR UPTOWN?

hubby and I will be there the third week of June.
he's not been since he was there for work with cohorts 15 or more years ago.

Anyone else like to see some new innovative cook shows on Food Network?

well yes I'd like to see better more interesting stuff regarding cooking shows but thankful when a dope of a cooking show disappears. when all 3 of my cooking tv channels (at the same time) feature the same show I get very annoyed and put out. especially since I can't watch countless hours of the same reruns for "Mr. "Shtstick" Guy Ferry's banal DD&D's

What's for dinner #145 [old]

hate to admit the ease of this one tonight.
it's a •no brain needed• recipe to feed a family.
bone in chic breast dredged then flash fried then in the crock pot with golden shroom soup.
basmati rice in the rice cooker plus steamed chopped spinach with butter and nutmeg.
