Silver Spring, Bethesda and vicinity

In Rockville, we love Siena's (http://sienasrestaurant.com) which is a pizza place with mexican option. Another good pizza place is Ben Yehuda (http://www.ben-yehuda-pizza.com/) in Silver Spring.

For meat, I would stick to either Moti's Grill (http://www.koshermart.com/old/motigrill.html) in Rockville or Max's (http://www.theshalomgroup.com/maxs-cafe-and-catering) in Silver Spring.

carlos and gabbys opening in Elizabeth NJ

That would be great! It would make exit 13 an even stronger kosher stop along the Turnpike.

Need info on newish kosher restaurant-Umami

I brought a co-worker there last Monday night. Though I had read the iffy reviews, there was really no better option in Baltimore in which I would feel comfortable taking a non-Jewish person to.

We started with the Miso soup. Presentation was good but its was sooooo salty. Strike 1.

I ordered the Crispy Beef and she ordered the Beef & Vegetables. My meal was a little too sweet but I should have known better as that dish usually tends to run sweet at any Asian restaurant. They charged me an extra buck for brown rice eventhough the rice portion was barely 6 ounces. Her meal was good, not great.

The waitress refilled our sodas multiple times without us having to ask. This was not something I am used to seeing at kosher restaurants. In fact, they usually charge for refills.

As for pricing, with tip it came out to around $30 a person.

Though I was not impressed with the restaurant, I would definately go back. Reasons:

1) It has a nice decor
2) They serve alcohol
3) food is presented nicely

However, if I am not taking somone who is Jewish, I would definatley choose either David Chu's or Royal (which I think is very underrated) over Umami.

Sabra's Cedarhurst

Did Netanya move or did it close? We used to enjoy the pizza/fries/soda combo during our college days and I was quite dissapointed to see it closed the last time I was on J.

Tea for Two Cedarhurst

That space is bad luck. Has any restaurant had success there?

Kosher in Scottsdale/Phoenix

I will be in Scottsdale and Phoenix next week and would like to take out a non-Jewish co-worker to a decent restaurant. Any suggestions?

Please don't say Siegel's because we have been there twice and, although the food is good, the atmosphere is lacking.

I see that Bon Appetit is open again. Has it improved?

I haven't gone to Fresh Mint yet.

Is Jerusalem Pita Grill worth trying out?

Cheerwine Soda

Do any of you Southeast folks know if Cheerwine is kosher?

Wendys Frosty?

There is a kosher certified Cinnabon in Towson (MD) as well.

Dunkin Donut's Flavors - All Kosher?

KH,

That is a good analogy. While I completely understand your point and respect the additional gedorim that you have erected, I think it is within reason to believe one is not violating kashrus if one partakes of those donuts (the one you refer to in your last post) along with some flavored coffee.

Kol tuv,

Dunkin Donut's Flavors - All Kosher?

Kiddush Hopper,

That is a bold statement. Are you sure that the flavored coffee in non-kosher Dunkin Donuts is different than the flavored coffee in the kosher establishments? If so, who told you this?

affordable kosher wedding hall

I recently attended a wedding at Rockwood Park Jewish Center in Howard Beach. There were about 280 people. I was told it was an "affordable place" if you can call weddings affordable! They have a website...

Phenomenal Kosher Pizza? Does it Exist?

Just had decent Kosher pizza in Cherry Hill, NJ. The place is called Perlin's.

Phenomenal Kosher Pizza? Does it Exist?

WHKosher-

In Cedarhurst, I think David's is pretty good, but so are all the other places (Sabra's, Jerusalem, Shula's). In Silver Spring, we tend to favor Nuthouse over Ben Yehuda (though Ben Yehuda has improved since the ownership change). Although I haven't been to La Pizzeria in years, I always enjoyed their pizza. In general, I have found that the NY pizza places have more variety but the pizza often not fresh. They leave it out and warm up slices as needed. Nut House is good because the pizza is always baked when ordered.

Pareve sour cream?

We use the Tofuti Sour Cream for Fajitas & Burritos. Good stuff!

Lack of Kosher Yogurt

Wegman's store brand has plenty of varieties that are Kosher, great tasting and low priced. IMHO, Stoneyfield is the best Kosher yogurt out there. Whole Foods has a great selection.

Phenomenal Kosher Pizza? Does it Exist?

I have (but no longer) eaten in tons of non-kosher pizza places (my favorite was independant was Starlite Pizza in West Orange, NJ and favorite chain was Pizzeria Uno) and plenty of Kosher pizza places. Just as there are plenty of subpar Kosher places, there are plenty of sub-par non-Kosher places.

For good Kosher pizza, I would recommend:
1. Sabra's in Cedarhusrt, NY
2. Jersualem in Cedarurst, NY
3. Nut House in Silver Spring, MD
4. La Pizzeria, in Great Neck, NY

When in Brooklyn, I go to Netanya on Ave. J.
When in Baltimore, I go to Mama Leah's.
When in Teaneck, I go to Pizza Cave.
When in Monsey, I avoid pizza altogether!

Kosher Mexican Food in the Five Towns

We enjoyed "The Cedarhurst" on Sat. night.

Reviews of Avari Deli and Bistro in OH?

Tried to go there but they we closed. I was kind of peeved as I arrived within business hours and they didn't have the decency to post a sign apologizing for an early closing.

Best Kosher Bakery in the world? Willing to travel!!

Though it is not ItaIian, I would put Country Boy Bakery of Long Beach (NY), in the same category. They have the same Italian pastries that you mentioned and they are quite good,

Best Kosher Bakery in the world? Willing to travel!!

If you are only considering European pastries, I recommend the Kosher Pastry Oven (http://www.thekosherpastryoven.com/) in Silver Spring, MD. They are pricey but you get what you pay for. In my opinion, the only drawback is the arrogance of their staff.

Any kosher places in Scottsdale/Phoenix area?

I recommend Bon Appetite in Phoenix. Interesting atmosphere (Bucharian) and the food is great. Although I think the food at the Scottsdale Cafe is great (even for New York standards), unless you eat outside it will fail to impress. Segal's in Phoenix has decent Chinese food but is lacking at little in the cleanliness department.

Best Glatt Kosher Butcher in the U.S.?

The best Glatt Kosher butchers I have been to are Tibor's (Cleveland) and Wasserman & Lemberger (Baltimore). My friend from Chicago swears by Romanian. What do the readers think?

Kosher in Denver

I agree with "zsero". I was quite impressed with both the food and service at the East Side Deli.

Kosher in Phoenix/Scottsdale

Went to Segals on July 30th. The service was slow and we were dissapointed to find out that they were only serving Chinese that night (1/2 the menu). As far as the food goes, we started with 2 soups (Egg Drop and Wonton) and neither were anything to write home about. For our mains the Orange Chicken and Vegetable Chicken (garlic sauce) were pretty good.

On the 31st, we went to the Scottsdale Cafe. Although the cafe is located within a kosher grocery/Judaica shop, the environment was pleasant. We intended to order hamburgers, but unfortunately they were out of them. When I attempted to replace one of the burgers with a chicken caeser wrap, we were told they were out of caeser dressing. This was at 6:00! I settled on the buffalo wings, which were great (I am usually not a fan), and the citrus chicken salad, which was decent. My wife enjoyed the BBQ Brisket sandwich, but I thought it was too sweet.

Kosher in Phoenix/Scottsdale

Going to Phoenix on Sunday. Aside from Segals (GREAT food) and King Solomon (which I have yet to try), any suggestions?

Best Schwarma in the Metro NY Area

My vote is for Hapina, yet I liked them better when they were actually on the corner (Main Street & Jewel).

Phenomenal Kosher Pizza? Does it Exist?

La Pizzeria is pretty good. From my non-kosher days, I used to love Pizzeria Uno's 5 cheese personal pies.

Jerusalem II Steakhouse in Five Towns

Do the 5 T's need another Israeli steakhouse? You already have the best in NY, Hapina.
