Does maple syrup ever spoil?
Thanks to the high concentration of sugar, which is an excellent preservative, maple syrup never spoils unless you dilute it for some reason (this is not true of some 'phonies' like Log Cabin. We sugared for years, and when my mother would find mold (which is able to live only on the surface of the syrup) she'd simply pour the syrup through a silk stocking adn rinse the can (I know I'm really dating myself)... NO PROBLEM!
NO LUCQUES OLIVES THIS YEAR?
Carrie, I DID find lucques at Monsieur Marcel at the Farmer's Market on Fairfax and 3rd. They are this years and they are kept refrigerated (to keep them bright and fresh-with that 'snap' I just love. I always treat myself to lucques on my birthday (12/10) because they're always just in.

Do you know if they were this year's? Were they bright green, or olive green? Do you think I'm being fibbed to?

I recently went to Whole Foods to get my holiday supply of Lucques, and why this year's crop wasn't on offer, was told that due to a huge fire the majority of the region had lost and entire year's growth. Therefore, W.F. won't be carrying them for a year. CAN THIS BE TRUE? Skip

kenny, I'm SO sorry Imissed your original request, BUT HERE'S THE ANSWER!!!! SWEET LADY JANE'S HAS THE BEST CHERRY PIE IN THE WORLD! any season: FRESH CHERRIES! The pie is about 4" high, packed with fruit, and not to sweet. Flaky, tender pastry, and the perfect lattice crust. I get light-headed just thinking about it. This is my "birthday cake" every year and I can't do without it.
