Looking for a bakery who might be able to replicate Spanish tile cookies for a bridal shower! See attached photo for example -- while something exact would be amazing, happy to explore and hear out similar options.

Any help is much appreciated!

My mother will be in town for one night and is craving a nice fall-sh dinner in nyc. Thoughts on something downtown. Someplace warm and cozy and charming. Also food centering around falls offerings would be great too. Pumpkin, squash, etc. Thoughts??

Buttercup Bake Shop

around 50 probably a bit under. I was thinking of 2 of the 3 layer 9 inches-- I think it says it feeds 12-20 per one of those cakes. For about 40-50 people what would you think would work. I am set on round cakes instead of a sheet cake.

Buttercup Bake Shop

Hello! I need to buy some moderately priced, but still very tasty, birthday cakes. Having done some research it looks as if Buttercup Bake Shop fits the bill. Has anyone had the cake from their? Recommendations? I need to get two three layer 9 inche cakes. I am leaning towards a golden cake and eithier the chocolate cake or lady baltimore. Has anyone had any experiences wth the cakes there?

Or any other suggestions on afforadable birthday cakes in NYC?

Casa Mono-what to order?

I second the Fideos. They are lovely.

Also I had an outrageous beet and goat cheese salad. It was fresh and wonderful. Loved it, one of the best beat salads I have ever had.

Pio Pio green sauce

You know that green sauce that comes with the chicken at Pio Pio? I think its tomatillo and avocado based, but I have no idea!!

Does anyone know what is in it? Do you think they would sell it by the quart? Also, is it a strictly Pio Pio thing or is it a peruvian thing. What is it called!

I just love ordering delivery from there, getting a few tiny containers of the stuff and putting it on everything-- scrambled eggs, beans, frozen enchiladas. It's heavenly!!

New Neighborhood! 19th and 1st

Hello all!

I will be moving to 19th and 1st area in a week or two.

Would love to get some input about good east village/gramercy restaurants. I know I have a lot of choices but suggestions on the following would be wonderful!!

1. Gourmet grocery store
I know whole foods is nearby. However I am moving from the UES and from Eli Zabars which I quite honestly love. Elis replacement?

2. French bistro
I love D'alsace. Is there something comparable in the area?

3. Mussels
Would love to find a place with solid steamed mussels. Am a fan of flex mussels.

4. Mexican food

5. Best cheap pizza delivery
While not cheap, is anyone here a fan of posto?

6. Chinese delivery

7. Brunch place or diner

Spring findings at the Union Square Farmers Market

Due to an insane schedule I have not been to the beloved union sq green market in far too long!!

I am hoping to go this week at some point. I am hoping I will find a good amount of springish items.

What spring produce has shown up recently?

Are there fresh peas? Pea sprouts? What fruits?

Would love to know what to expect or what has been esp. good thus far this season!

Easter Brunch or lunch

Would like to make reservations for Easter day! Price really isnt an issue, we would like something more upscale but are open to suggestions. Someplace that would offer a fresh spring menu would be nice too. Thoughts?

Best CSA for our location?

My friend and I want to share a CSA membership. He lives in murray hill and I am going to be moving downtown to the soho or nolita areas.

Any suggestions for the best CSA for us? We've done a bit of research but havent made a decision yet. We are primarily interested in a vegetable/fruit delivery.

Thanks!!

Last minute Valentine's day rec for low budget

I live blocks from D'Alsace and I must say it can be very romantic and the food is GOOD. goat cheese tart, haricot verts, just lovely. And the men love the wide selection of beer.

"healthy" cooking for a fan of "unhealthy" food?

In place of sourcream-- try 2% fage greek yogurt. Mix with some spices- salt pepper garlic rosemary. Very healthy and shockingly satisfying!! I promise!! I am a HUGE sour cream fan and this has always really worked for me....

Last minute Valentine's day rec for low budget

I think Mermaid inn ( east village location, never done the UWS one) might be a good choice. Not the most romantic place- but the food is always decent and its relaxed, very cute and extremely affordable. You also get little chocolate or butterscotch puddings @ the end. i would like to go on valentines day..

Thoughts on my food itinery (so far)?

Agreed. Go to Ssam bar instead. Was just there last night and the duck was phenomenal. The PB&J dessert with saltine pannacotta was also amazing. Or go next door to Momofuku Milk Bar for dessert. It's relatively new and has gotten mixed reviews on these boards, but is an interesting stop non the less. search the boards for milk bar and some stuff should come up.
