Hollywood and Highland

Looking for a good restaurant near Hollywood and Highland. I'm bringing an out of towner to a taping of Jimmy Kimmel tonight and would like to walk to a restaurant afterward.

Looking for something that includes lighter options on the menu, so no steakhouses.
Price should be no more than $30 for an entree.
Trendy is preferred, as long as the food is good

I did a search but the results were several years old. Anything new? Thanks!

Family friendly in Fairfax area

We ended up going to Golden State and passing on Prime. Neither of them are really good for families with babies. Prime had no seating and Golden State didn't have high chairs. This is just a note for anyone who reads this in the future. As we were leaving, we noticed Plan Check, which had a huge patio. I think that we should've gone there. Anyway, the burgers at Golden State were delicious and the clientele were really friendly to my kids, so that was nice.

Family friendly in Fairfax area

I'm looking for a good place to have dinner with my husband, 3 yo, and 10 month old in the Fairfax area. I'm not very familiar with the restaurants there, but we'll be there shopping earlier in the day. We'll be eating dinner at 5 or 6pm. Ideally the food will be good, parking won't be too much of a challenge, and it will have outdoor seating. Our kids are well-behaved, but the baby can be messy and drop food on the floor. Something like burgers or sandwiches or pizza or a good diner is probably most appropriate. Not Mexican since we ate that last night :)
Thanks!

Great breakfast LAX / Culver City

J. Nichols Kitchen in Marina Del Rey is really good. It opens at 7am. Personally, I'm not a fan of Pann's or Metro Cafe. I've never really enjoyed anything I've had at either place. J. Nichols is a little pricier...and I've only been once, but I was really happy with everything we got.

Gifting a meal

I'd like to buy a gift certificate for a restaurant as a thank you to my sister. She is planning to visit soon. I know nothing of the area or restaurants...and honestly I don't know my sister's preferences that well. I know she likes a wide variety of things from escargot to oxtail soup, but is happy with simpler things as well. I'm pretty sure her husband is more of a meat and potatoes kind of guy. When she visited me in LA, she loved the meal she had at the Ivy in Santa Monica (I wasn't at the meal, so not sure what she ate), if that helps.
I'm looking to spend $100 on the gift certificate. Neither of them drink alcohol, so that won't be an issue. I think the atmosphere should be pretty relaxing. She's had a crazy, exhausting couple of months. They are in their 50s, if that matters.

Thanks so much!

Great salad for dinner - Culver City area

oh that's very close to me. I've been intrigued by it even though vegan food is not my preference.

I used to eat at Fresh Corn Grill a lot when I lived in Westwood. Loved it.

Great salad for dinner - Culver City area

I'm stuck inside with a sick toddler and a baby by myself today. Once my husband gets home, I'm going out by myself for dinner and a glass of wine. Since I've eaten pretty poorly so far today (mac and cheese, red velvet muffin, oatmeal with chocolate chips (the only way I can stomach it)), I think I'd like to get a really delicious salad for dinner. Any recommendations for a place around Culver City that has nice salads, wine, and is low-key enough that I'd feel comfortable bringing a book and eating by myself? Thanks!

Vegetarian-friendly restaurant as gift

Hi everyone,

This my annual post to get your restaurant suggestions for my brother in law and his wife. They live in Philly and I live in LA, so I'm ignorant to the good restaurants in your city. Each year, as a gift, I send them a $100 gift certificate to a Philly restaurant and I'd like to do it again. (I'd prefer that it's not a Starr Restaurant.) Are there any new, exciting restaurants this year that have good vegetarian options? I'm not sure if she's eating fish these days, so best to be safe and not send them to a seafood restaurant. They are in their 30s, if that makes a difference. I have no recollection of what restaurants I've sent them to in the past. (I have an infant and a 3 year old, so my memory is shot.)

ETA - My BIL is not a vegetarian.

Thanks!

An ode to the ordinary: Shrimp Burrito

The spicy steak burrito is also really good at Eduardo's.

Culver City Breakfast

I actually went by C&M a couple months ago, but it was closed. Then I forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder. I'm in this area pretty often because of its proximity to my daughter's school.

Culver City Breakfast

It was a while ago, but I think my husband got a spinach feta omelette. The ratio of feta and spinach to egg was way off.

Culver City Breakfast

I just recently moved to Culver City and am currently home on maternity leave. I'm looking for some breakfast options. I need something that has a great brunch, but is not too fancy. I used to eat at places like Food and Clementine when I lived in Westwood. I'm hoping there is something similar nearby. It needs to be family-friendly, as I have a 2 yo and a newborn. We would mostly go to it on weekends as a whole family. We've been to Metro Cafe, but I just wasn't that impressed. Maybe we ordered wrong?

I'm also looking for a place that has a really amazing breakfast sandwich. This can be a completely different place, preferably one pretty close to the intersection of Sawtelle and Sepulveda. I would go to this place on weekday mornings with my newborn just to eat some good eggs and have a change of scenery.

Thanks!

BURGERS!

On the top of their order form it says something like "All burgers will be cooked medium unless specified otherwise."

Glad you enjoyed it!

BURGERS!

I've been to the new location twice, both on a Saturday afternoon. It's definitely different people behind the counter and at the grill. (I haven't seen the owners there...maybe they take the day off.) I found my burger to be just as flavorful as the old location though. Maybe you just went on an off day?

Reasonably priced food for 2 year old birthday party

I'll check this out. Even if it doesn't work, I have been looking for a good eggplant parm!

I like the idea of a taco bar. Though that could get pretty messy with the kids. But it sounds really delicious to me. I'll have to look into prices.

I suspect this could end up getting expensive and sandwiches are hard for 2 year olds.

Reasonably priced food for 2 year old birthday party

I don't need to impress my friends, I just need it to be edible to all. In other words, sandwiches are to difficult for 2 year olds to eat, but I don't want to serve adults chicken nuggets.

Reasonably priced food for 2 year old birthday party

We're having a small party at our house for our daughter's 2nd birthday. I'm expecting about 4 kids and 8 adults. We had a similar sized party last year and got food from Portos. I was happy with Portos but I'm hoping to find something a little closer to Culver City. I'm pregnant this year and I will not have the energy to drive across town that morning.

Any ideas? We need food that would be good for a bunch of 2 year olds and adults alike, without breaking the bank. Portos was perfect for that. Everyone likes potato balls and empanadas!

Thanks!

Takeout lobster bisque on the westside

This year we are missing my inlaws' Christmas Eve party back east, which features lobster bisque. To ease my husband's sadness about this, I'd like to bring home some delicious lobster bisque for our small dinner party on Tuesday. Can anyone recommend a place on the westside (preferably close to Culver City)?

Best baby-friendly places in LA

My daughter is almost 2, which is a very different experience from 4 months old. I found that for the first 6 to 9 months or so, we could go anywhere. Once she was walking, it became more difficult. Once she got a mind of her own it was even more difficult.

At this point, I bring her to chain restaurants that I never would've considered prior to having a baby. The food is usually not great, but I don't feel so bad if she decides to screech or squeal loudly.

I'm in Westwood and on the non-chain side, I go to Food (for breakfast), Pitfire Pizza (I'm aware that this is a local chain), and Plan Check (surprisingly). In general, places that have patios are better because the occasional squeal and food on the floor is less of an issue. (I always leave a very generous tip if we have made a big mess.)

Gift certificate recommendation for relatives (advice needed for an out-of-towner)

It's all coming back to me. One year I did a Starr GC and the other I did a Garces one. I think my in-laws also got them a Starr certificate last year, so I would like to get something different.

Gift certificate recommendation for relatives (advice needed for an out-of-towner)

Hi,

I've posted here before on occasion and I've gotten some great advice. I'm basically asking the same question again. I live in LA, but my brother-in-law and sister-in-law live in Philly. My husband and I like to get them a gift certificate for $150 to a nice restaurant. I don't know any of the restaurants in the area, so I'm looking for guidance. They live in the Washington Square area, but have a car so they are willing to travel. They are in their 30s. She doesn't eat meat, but he does. They both eat fish.

Are there any new restaurants that you would recommend? I do not remember which restaurants I've given them gift certificates for in the past (though Morimoto and Tinto ring a bell). Also, is $150 a good amount or should I split it into two gift certificates? My understanding is that a lot of restaurants are byob so the check may not run so high. Thoughts?
