sashimi-grade fish?
The H Mart in Cheltenham has sushi grade tuna, salmon & others- prob. more reasonable than Ippolito's.
Lunch Spot around 6th and Market
Nothing right at 6th & Market- there are stands in the Bourse on 5th, but it will be usual food court stuff. If you walk to 7th & Chestnut, there is Delicatesin, Aqua (malaysian), Chiffa, Jones. None may be fast, but all are good.
Quiet But Good Food: Glenside/Elkins Park Area
Not far from there is White Elephant; nice Thai place in Huntingdon Valley shopping center.
Foie Gras - your favorite
Bibou has a great seared foie gras appetizer. Haven't had it, but they have an entree of pigs trotter stuffed with foie gras.
Need Suggestions - Going to Philly
For Italian, Barbuzzo on 13th St, is a short walk. Reserve now, or try for lunch. Philly's Chinatown is close by as is Reading Terminal Market. Try roast pork sandwiches (DiNic's in the market) rather than cheesesteaks, but if you need a cheesesteak, try John's or Tony Luke's. Both have great pork sandwiches - you'll need a car to get there. Modo Mio, Villa di Roma or Radicchio are all good local Italian spots - again, you'll need a car or taxi for these. Hope this helps.
Valanni food, shelter, cocktails
I've always liked Valanni's food; could never figure out what they were trying to be.
lunch near Holiday Inn-Arch St.
If you walk the other way (north), you'll come to Radicchio, a great little Italian place. About 3 blocks from holiday Inn.
Under the Oak cooking classes
Couldn't agree more. We took a Thai cooking class last month; it was great. The class was demonstration rather than hands on, but still learned a lot. Chef David is very talented - went to their Chef's table this past Friday & everything was excellent.
Looking for a cooking class/dining experience for a present?
Took a Thai cooking class with my wife and another couple a few weeks ago - excellent. Other couple has since taken another class there and enjoyed. We're going there tonight for their Friday night chef's table. I'll post a report.

Day trip to Philly.Any good breakfast spots?
Cafe Estelle is a great place, though you'll need a car to get there as it's on the edge of downtown. Dutch Eating Place at Reading terminal Market,if you're there later in the week.
Northeast Philly
Kao Tip is on Cottman Ave just west of Frankford. It's where the Gourmet restaurant used to be.
Northeast Philly
While it's largely a culinary wasteland, there are a few good ethnic places in the NE. El Balconcito for Peruvian/Portugese, Manila Bay, Picanha, Taste of Portugal, Kao Tip for Thai. There's the Grey Lodge for great beer & pretty good food. Wasabi has good sushi. Three monkeys Cafe is supposed to be good (haven't been there).
Help with a good coffee shop in Philly
La Columbe Torrefaction is at 130 S. 19th Street, a short walk from Logan Circle.
Philly, Boys weekend Out
You could go to Northern Liberties (area of the city) for Standard Tap, Johnny Brenda's, N. 3rd, Paesano's for great roast pork sandwiches. Closer to downtown is Pub & Kitchen, Good Dog Bar, Monk's. Village Whiskey has great whiskey selection but is expensive.

Just Eat by Brown Gold - Never again
My wife & I have a gift. cert.to just Eat - I wonder if the the new owners will honor it. Looks like I need to make a call.
Butcher Recommendations in NE Philly Area?
Butcher Boys used to have a lot of meats, etc. Now they're more of a deli/prepared foods place. Good stuff, but not a butcher.
Best things to eat at H-Mart Food court (the one on Cheltenham Ave.)
I've had the Pho, meat & chicken, which was good - the chicken a bit hard to eat as they use whole chicken cut into small pieces. The grilled chicken over rice is good. On theKorean menu, I was unimpressed with the Bi Bim Bop, but liked the dumplings, both steamed and fried. The sushi was pretty good. It's an interesting place - lots of possibilities and very inexpensive. If you like Korean food, look around and see what is being eaten.
Toscana 52
It feels like a chain restaurant (though i don't think it is), but we enjoyed what we ate. Not great, but a big step up from the Olive Garden/Carabba's type places.
Soul Food in Philly.....
Never eaten there, but Miss Tootsies is on South Street, near 13th.
breakfast and lunch recs for Phila airport (PHL)?
While nothing is truly authentic (this is an airport after all), they don't bland things down. Their Pad Thai had some nice heat. Service can be slow, but it's a big step up from food court chinese. BTW - they have Sushi, but I've never had.
breakfast and lunch recs for Phila airport (PHL)?
Sky Asian Bistro is in Concourse C & has been pretty good the 3-4 times I've eaten there.
Looking for good ethnic or cheap or casual in Easton
Pearly Baker's is pretty good - right on the square and it doesn't have to cost a lot. Pizza D'oro is up on college hill - good home, style Italian & good Pizza. They've been there 30+ years.
Lunch in NE Philadelphia
Gallo's is right around the corner from Nazareth Hospital - on the Blvd, just South of the Hospital.
Philly Old City - Make me move
Actually it's Cafe Ole and it is a great place - good for brunch. There's also Konak for Turkish food and just a couple of blocks away is Market Street, Chestnut Street, etc with tons of restaurants. Walk 6-7 blocks and you get to Chinatown, so there's lots of options.
