Healthy(ish!) Restaurants in Chicago

You're right about veggie cooking not always being healthier, but I think it will be easier to pass it off as such;-)

Healthy(ish!) Restaurants in Chicago

This is very helpful - thanks for taking the time to tell me distance from the hotel!

Healthy(ish!) Restaurants in Chicago

Hi All,

I'm in Chicago for business at the end of this month and have been charged with finding restaurants for my colleagues and I.

The only catch is that New Year's resolutions have place some dietary restrictions on the restaurants I'm allowed to pick!

Price is not of great concern, but a menu that is focused on fresh, healthy-ish foods (fish, vegetables, minimal use of delicious saturated fats) is our key item.

We're staying at the Omni on NMA and would prefer to stay in the general area.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I'll happily return the favor for anyone visiting Montreal.

Ben

Who makes the best sandwiches in town?

I second Momesso's. Their spicy italian sausage sub is the stuff dreams and heart attacks are made of.

Montreal birthday dinner... for a vegetarian!?

It might not be fancy enough for a birthday, but Chuchai on St-Denis serves outstanding vegan thai food. They use tofu and seitan (wheat gluten) as meat substitutes, but the food is no worse for it. Some of the best Thai and definitely the best vegetarian I've had.

Questions from a transplanted Torontonian

Hi all,

I'm a (happily) relocated Torontonian, and after 6 months in Montreal am starting to get my culinary bearings. This board has been invaluable in discovering some amazing meals in Montreal. There are a few lingering cravings though, that I hope you can help solve!

Where can I find the best:

Bun Bo (Vietnamese bowl of vermicelli with thinly slice grilled beef):
There seems to be a lot of Vietnamese restuarants, but I'm not keen on testing them all as the bad ones are pretty bad!

Thai Delivery:
I tried Chuch via À la Carte Express and it was terrific but very pricey ($60 for 2, no leftovers!)

Indian Delivery:
I tried Nouveau Delhi and found it almost inedible - I've heard good things about Lumière de L'Inde, anyone want to second that?

Ethiopian Food
I loved Ethiopia House in Toronto but not sure where to go in Montreal

Tuscan Food
My favourite restaurant in Toronto is a Tuscan place called Tutti Matti (must try if you're in Toronto www.tuttimatti.com), looking for something as authentic.

So far, loved the burgers at La Paryse, been mildly impressed by asian-fusion at KoKo, enjoyed brunch at Le Cartet and Café Méliès, and had great dinners at Le Local, Chez L'Epicier, Chasse et Peche, L'Express and La Montée.

In terms of location, I'm downtown on St-Denis.

Thanks again for the great recommendations thus far. My stomach is happy with it's new home!

Burbank Area Apps/Tapas/Lounge

Thanks for this recommendation - I'm going to book Olé it seems to have the right type of casual atmosphere: drop-in, drop-out, drinks and small plates.

Burbank Area Apps/Tapas/Lounge

I'm looking for something a little less 'sitdown' (judging from the photos). But the menu looks terrific, I think I might need to go there on a night off! We don't get very good Latin cuisine here in Montreal!

Burbank Area Apps/Tapas/Lounge

Hi all,

I'm visiting LA for a team meeting in a couple weeks. I've been charged with finding a restaurant for drinks and appetizers for our last night.

We're staying in Universal City that night due to early morning flights out of Burbank; so ideally the restaurant would be in that vicinity. Although, from a map it looks like West Hollywood is fairly close too.

Looking for a place that has a loose enough format that people can order apps. or small plates and come and go as they like. A great cocktail list would also be appropriate.

Thanks for any help!

Ben

Sunday Dining Downtown

Hi,

I'm looking for a place to bring 6 friends for dinner tomorrow night downtown. The restaurant should have a great vibe/environment, be located fairly close to the financial district (friends are staying at the Hilton) and of course have great food.

If they were open on Sundays, my top picks would have been:
Nota Bene
Madeline's
Terroni Adelaide

I'm considering Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar, since I know they're open but am looking to see if there is anything else that springs to mind!

Cheers,

Client Dinner - Downtown TO

Based on where you've already taken them, I'd second Scaramouche - it really does turn out consistently excellent contemporary French/Continental cuisine, and they view is stunning (and somewhat surprising given it's location).

If you have time for the tasting menu I can guarantee an experience on par with Susur or Canoe.

George is good, but does have the 'wow' impact of your other choices and Scaramouche.

Inexpensive French restaurants in Toronto?

Hands down, the best bang for your buck is at Provence Delices (Parliament and Amelia in Cabbagetown).

They offer a credible steak frites for only $15 - and some fabulous starters (seared tuna on avocado salad or grape tomatoes with julienned celeriac in remoulade...sigh).
We've never spent more than $100 before tax with wine and 3 courses.

Is there better French in the city? Undoubtedly. But I can't think of better value...
