Looking for great evening of Japanese (esque) tastings, sushi, sake, nice room

Another satisfied customer of Kyo Ya. Had a wonderful anniversary dinner with the wife earlier this year. Small, pleasant, quiet, great food and a good sake list.

New LI BBQ

Grand opening is scheduled for the end of April, though it is currently open as a soft opening.

I think the hunting lodge decor was there from the two previous restaurants (Adirondack Grill and Wild Harvest).

That said, the brisket and ribs we had were tasty. The slaw and the beet salad were meh...

Given the dearth of BBQ joints on the Island, this is a welcomed addition.

where to buy garlic chives and thai chilis?

BTW, the recipe looks like it calls for garlic chives with the flower buds. In which case, it would be jiu cai hua in Mandarin. Should be able to get it in most Chinatown veggie markets , as well as ones in Flushing.

Best burger - need some advice

Shake Shack is good if the wait is not too long. Closer to Union Square there is Goodburger . Not too far from Shake Shack with nicer atmo is there is the bacon and blue burger at Primehouse New York (27th & Park). Have also heard good things about the burger with fried egg at Resto (29th bet Park and Lex), although I haven't been.

tai yang bing - anyone know where to find them in flushing?

Apollo bakery - good to know... thanks !

New to Glen Cove and looking for food!

Iron Horse makes a decent burger. The place is definitely not 'cutesy', serving mostly locals. They have nightly specials (German Wed and skirt steak Fri night). Not worth making a special trip for, but good fun if you happen to be in the area.

Not downtown Flushing, but you might try Yeh's Bakery. I recall them having it but that was several years ago...

Oyster Crawl in Long Island

The Oyster Festival in Oyster Bay is on Oct 17-18 this year.
http://www.theoysterfestival.org/
I've been a few times, it gets VERY crowded. I'm fairly certain that most, if not all, of the oysters are shipped up from the south.

Shameful questions about two, um, less-than-five-star eating establishments

1. Mars 2112 - Unless you have young children that might be entertained by a space themed restaurant I'd skip it.

2. Shake Shack burgers are good - but it's your call on whether it's worth the wait... :)

New to Glen Cove and looking for food!

I believe Kiraku is run by the same management as the old Shiki. Shiki morphed into another Japanese place - forget the name. Went there once and did not have a good experience. Within Glen Cove, I'd go to Fatty Fish for Sushi. Otherwise, Kiraku is the go to in the area.

Since the OP asked about Thai, Chaopraya opened up about a month ago.

Sarin Thai in Greenvale would be the other option, but I find Chaopraya more laid back and prefer the food.

Iron Horse at the Glen Head train station for pub fare and German night on Wednesdays.

Finally, a good place for Thai on Long Island

Repeat visit yesterday. Agreed that the food is too sweet, but they will adjust the heat if you ask. That said, I'm local and this place is easily a cut above anything in the area.

Finally, a good place for Thai on Long Island

Went to Chaopraya with the family tonight. Happy to report that there is finally a good Thai restaurant in Glen Cove. We had the pork larb - nice texture with noticeable fish sauce. Beef satay and spicy chicken wings for the kiddies. Pork with basil and Chicken with lemongrass were both good as well. Called ahead to confirm that it was BYOB so we brought in a bottle of Gewurtz.

The only negative is that the location is not the greatest and there are only a few tables. It was the location for the shortlived Sean's fusion, and I believe a Chinese takeout prior to that. All in all a very good experience - will definitely go again...

Yankee Stadium Food Review

You can bring food into the stadium in CLEAR plastic bags. No bottles though...

Finally, a good place for Thai on Long Island

Good news indeed - can't wait to try it considering the dearth of decent thai restaurants in the area.

Hound from Manhattan seeks Flushing Chinese Advice

We might be threadjacking a bit here. That said, they have sliced briased beef in shao-bing with scallions and hoisin. Also scallion pancacke with egg, sticky rice rolls, pan fried chive "box". Don't recall seeing dou-nao on the menu.

Thanks for the tips on King 5 - will have to try that next time. We usually go to Peoples People (41-27 Main Street, next to the library) for our Taiwanese breakfast fix. Anyone been to both and care to compare the two? I'm a sucker for the fired cruller and salty soy milk, and the turnip bun is always a favorite.

Yankee Stadium Food Review

Been to two games so far this year..

Agree about the vendor hot dogs - they were atrocious.
Disagree about the garlic fries, mine had plenty of garlic and were hot and crispy.

Will try the "new" Premio sausages next time, I was not crazy about the ones at the old Stadium.

It is also hard to find different beers. It seems that a large section of the stadium is served by Bud, a separate large section is served by Lite, etc... It'll take me a few more games to figure all of that out.

At these prices, guess I'll do more eating and drinking before I arrive.
