Best Wings In NYC?
I am trying to figure out where to find the best wings in NYC. I have yet to try any that can stand up to my personal favorites (Dean's original at the Forge in Lanesboro, MA), but I refuse to believe that there is a food that someone in New York hasn't perfected. Please advise me.
Birthday Dinner $150 for 2 people?
Until I ate at Perbacco last weekend I would have said Degustation, but eat at Perbacco if you can get a res. Hearth is another good choice.
Favorite Cocktail Specialist Bar
I'm a big fan of well-made cocktails and I was wondering what people's favorite bars were.
I have been to the following (in order of preference):
1. Death and Co - Easily my favorite despite the waits (the cellphone system makes it not so bad). Huge fan of The Conference, the Oaxaca Old Fashioned, and the food is great too. Bit loud but I don't mind that.
2. Little Branch - I haven't ever had to wait long to get in somehow and the drinks are on par with D&C. I like the Chet Baker and the Rusty Nail.
3. Allen and Delancey - Their new drink menu is SO good.
4. Angel's Share - IMO the drinks are a notch below the my top three, but still great. Very romantic.
5. Freeman's - Also excellent cocktails. Not wild about the crowd and service but I want to try it again.
6. The Randolph - Good drinks but wasn't a fan of the doorman
7. Pravda - Had the WORST drink I have ever paid for there (Mandarin Sidecar). Their martinis are all right but most of them just use vodka so they aren't that interesting).
Also this is more of an aside but Hearth usually has some interesting drinks on their menu.
I'm interested to hear what people think of PDT, Pegu Club, Apotheke and any others that I am missing out on. Don't think its worth getting a membership at M&H so I don't really need to hear about that.
BYOB restaurants with good food?
Ivo and Lulu and Kuma Inn are my go to's. Ivo and Lulu is the best for a birthday party with a somewhat large group (first time i went was for a big birthday party and it was awesome). Great French Caribbean food and soo cheap.
Moving to 4th St and 2nd Ave, Need Reccos
I'm ashamed to admit I have never tried MD. I'll check it out this weekend. That said, I don't think I can conceive of better coffee than abraco's iced cappuccino.
Moving to 4th St and 2nd Ave, Need Reccos
I recently moved down to 2nd and 2nd (from 7th and A) so I'm in the same situation. Here's what I have learned:
Atlas cafe for sandwiches.
For bagels we're pretty much up s creek without a paddle now that bagel zone and david's are donezo. Russ and Daughters has terrible bagels, really embarrassing for a purveyor of whitefish/salmon etc. Don't despair though, Zaitzeff has the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had. I order at least one a weekend.
Takahachi is great for sushi.
You also live close to the best coffee in the city at Abraco. Cool food there too.
Welcome to the hood
Looking for Good Eats Near Stuyvesant Town/East Village
Of the two, I liked Apiary better. The roasted peaches and serrano ham appetizer was glorious. I would avoid the rabbit (based on the reviews), but there are a lot of really good dishes there. Also my gf got the white sangria which was superb.
I was at back forty for a friends birthday party and got horribly overcharged ($85 a head) for the meal, so that might be swaying my judgement. They did have some good cocktails at back forty, however, and all of the food we got was good.
My recommendation would be to go to Barbone, though. It might be a little more expensive but the owner is great and makes phenomenal wine recommendations. Its a pretty private place too. Try the chestnut agnolotti (ravioli) if you go.
