Haven Pizza Bethesda

Agree, it's excellent. Definitely New Haven style, with the charred crust and texture. Might not be fair to compare to authentic Neapolitan, it's a different animal. I think it has the edge on Pete's.

If It's Spring and It's 2 Amys . . .

You made the right choice. I tried to go to Boqueria last night, but it was packed to the rafters, and the decibel levels made 2 Amy's sound like a monastary. Looks like it is going to be a nightime hotspot for drinks.

Three dinners in Bethesda

Have you been to Haven? From their website, it looks very, very promising. Coal ovens, and what appears to be a quite knowlegeable staff.

Great Wall Szechuan House, 1527 14th Street

I completely agree, the menu lacks depth. But I'll take it. It's in DC and I can walk there at lunch time. It was a pleasant surprise.

Great Wall Szechuan House, 1527 14th Street

I went here when 14th street was still relativly ungentrified, and the Ma La menu was a few items. Boy, have they improved! This is almost like a Virginia place now, in quality terms if not choices. I only wish they would expand the Ma La menu even more.

Easy, cheap eats in DC - do they even exist?

Population and stronger competition might also play a factor.

Good, reasonably priced Italian in Washington, DC

If posters would distinguish between authentic Italian and Italian-American, that would go a long way as to avoiding confusion concerning what type of cusine is actually sought. It appears the OP is seeking Italian-American.

DC Brau/Chocolate City in cans?

Yes, DC Brau is around, I've had it in cans. Can't remember where I got it, but Whole Foods springs to mind.

Pizza with Cracker Like Crust

Upper Crust on Pennsylvania Ave, a few doors down from the Bread Line. Just had it - it's like a cracker. It's a chain out of MA.

A Place to Study and Sip Coffee

How about Bourbon Coffee, 20th & L. Great, fresh coffee from Rwanda, quiet, and couches. And a short walk.

Rogue States reopened

They might as well close again. Disaffected service - standing alone at counter unacknowledged in the middle of lunch hour while the place was empty and four employees are an arms length away, pink burger served well done like sawdust, and exorbitant pricing - almost $16 for a burger, fries and a soda. I am not impressed. At least Bobby Flay is opening a new burger place in a week or so.

City Paper Best of DC

Well, she states her criteria right in the article - it's accessable. Considering the source and audience, I won't quibble with it. If this was the WAPO, that would be another story though.

City Paper Best of DC

I think the City Paper comes from a young perspective, not that it is a negative, but possibly that more expensive places might not be fully considered.

best pizza that's not Two Amys

Il Canale. IMOH, the very best Neopolitan pie in the city.

Fort Lee Pizzeria

Lower quality ingredients now. Interesting. It seemed every pizza place got their ingredients from Lisanti Foods. I don't think they even are around anymore.

Fort Lee Pizzeria

I guess I am in denial and things truly have slipped since moving away. If so, that's tragic. When I was there, each place seemed to have their own take on pizza, a unique taste. It WAS good then. The situation as everybody seems to describe is truly a sad state of affairs.

Fort Lee Pizzeria

What about La Gondola on RT 17 in Ramsey, Sal's in Ramsey, Renatos and Mama Rosa's in Ridgewood, Allendale Pizzeria, and, from what I remember, if you hit it right, the Fireplace on 17. Also, Tony's in Midland Park had great Sicilian. When I lived there, these were all great slice places, and superior to anything outside of the area.

Best pizza pie in Northern NJ(Bergen)

I remember when living there I used to whine also. But there are still alot of places that have been around, seemingly forever, that are good. I mean just good, standard NJ slice pizza. THAT's what I miss so desperately. That’s what does not exist anywhere else, and I used to take it for granted. Well, now I know! In DC, I can get all the authentic Neopolitan pies I want, but cannot get a decent, commercial slice.

Best pizza pie in Northern NJ(Bergen)

I have to strongly disagree. I moved to DC 19 years ago, and find myself dreaming of a good slice of Sal's in Ramsey, or Kinchleys. You guys do not know what you have up there - it does not exist ANYWHERE outside of the NY Metro area. Believe me, nothing can compare to pleathora of great slice places in Bergan County.

New Yorker coming to DC for 5 days and looking for great ethnic food

I would take issue with statement. Pho Pasteur on Baxter St in NYC's Chinatown blows away anything I've encoutered at the Eden Center, both in terms of price and quality.

Decent pizza delivery in Dupont/Logan Circle?

Totally agree. It's OK Pizza for this area, but there is a lackadasical attitude in the way all there places seem to be run. I wonder sometimes if people down here just don't understand the concept of hustle. Walk into a northern pizzeria and they are moving their butts, especially at lunchtime.

In addition to Ethiopian, is there a particular cuisine that DC is known for?

To the OP - you certainly CAN go wrong in Adams Morgan, Lauiel Plaza, and many places on U street. Google Tyler Cowan's Ethinic Dining Guide for some direction.

Robert Weidmaier's Mussel Bar

Yikes. Wouldn't want to be on the recieving end of THAT! Seems like Wiedmaier might be stretching himself too thin, not a good sign for his other places either.

Georgetown/Rosslyn area moderately priced non-chain restaurant for 20??

Second that - college kids, they'll love Paradiso. Downstairs is Bierra Paridiso.

Weekday lunch in Woodley Park/Cleveland Park

Petits Plats, a french bistro in Woodley Park. I know they have tablecloths, not sure if they are white....

Largest wine store in the area

Schneider's is outstanding. I can't believe I forgot to mention them. It is mandatory to check the website if in search of older wines. They have a great selection of mature Bordeaux's, and it looks like they have some good Burgs also. They make two warehouse runs a day.

Largest wine store in the area

As far as I've seen, I'd give the nod to MacArthur for Burgs. If you are serious, do as Fudizgud stated and go to the website. I print out the complete inventories for the vintages I'm interested in, and then research them first. Oddly, I've yet to find one that was not in the store. Many are in the back, not on display, but I leave with them. The fact you can just walk in and pick up a great, mature Burgundy anytime blows my mind. That is not the case in most wine stores.

Weygandts also has an outstanding selection of Burgundys from highly regarded, small producers. They are just not mature yet, and my ability to be patient enough to wait is in serious doubt -). To spend the prices Burgundy commands, and then open it before it's mature is a true sin in my opinion.

Largest wine store in the area

You will more than happy at Weygandt Wines. Probably one of the best wine stores in the US.

For an outstanding selection of mature wines, including a just tremendous Burgundy stock, try MacArthur Beverages, also in DC.

PJ Clarkes -- K Street Now Open

The menu reminds me of Billy Martin's in G'Town, a non-chain.

I can't imagine how this place could be good, hope I'm wrong.

Galileo 3

I sat at the bar, and it was, of course, excellent. The appetizer and entree were spaced by about 10 minutes. I like that, but some people don't.
