Beasley's Chicken and Honey Opened in Raleigh?
I can attest to the fact that this is a darn big biscuit. You can take it apart and have basically two open-faced chicken and honey biscuits, with or without the tomato. Probably best treated as a knife and fork affair, but do as you must.
Beasley's Chicken and Honey Opened in Raleigh?
I don't know how commonly chicken is served with honey, but I can tell you it's delicious.
In fact, I've been doing it for years. Lee's Famous Recipe always served a package of honey with your biscuit. I'd get the chicken plate, pull the fried top off of my thigh piece and put it in the biscuit with the honey. Best thing ever.

I'll also add that they hit you with a glass of filtered ice water just as soon as you arrive, no charge. Get the big tea if you think you want that much, the little one if you don't. Either way you'll have enough to drink. For me, it's just not been worth worrying about.
Mandolin Restaurant - coming soon (Raleigh)
There is a Chef Sean Fowler who runs the catering and special events food service at Fearrington. Thinking this is him. The cuisine description would seem to fit.
The rumored Five Points BBQ would be a put together by Jimmy Stubbs, of the Pittsboro Allen & Sons group. They've not specified a location as yet. There was some conjecture that it would be located either in the old EVOO spot, or in the newly converted building in front of the Bloomsbury/Rite-Aid center at Five Points, but that's just talk.
"Hole in the wall" Indian in Triangle area?
I know the perfect place - Laziz Biryani Corner, http://lbcrestaurant.com
Authentic strip-mall, family-run Indian/Pakistani place. Very well reviewed. Menu is about half vegetarian and halal. Friendly staff, good eats.
[edit] I created a Chow Restaurant page for them.

Raleigh: Saltwater Seafood and Fry Shack
Excited to see the Earp's opening up in my neighborhood. Longer hours mean I can drop by after work for some fresh fish. I tried out some trout and shrimp from the Fry Shack window and really enjoyed it. Can't wait to hit the grill with some mackerel.
Best Burger in Raleigh?
That's the "Royale", taking it's name from a scene in the movie Pulp Fiction. And it's a fine burger indeed.
Best Burger in Raleigh?
PR definitely makes a darn fine burger. And they grind the meat in-house, so you can actually order it rare and medium rare.
New Polish market in Durham?
We just stopped in there coming back from lunch.
They've got a really nice selection of deli and grocery items. Polish, primarily, with some other Eastern European oriented items mixed in. A nice deli case with meats and cheeses. Good looking selection of cured sausages. Dried and canned fishes, pickles, drinks, teas, fruit syrups, etc. available.
The couple were very good hosts, giving us a nice tour of their store, including a taste of some ham and pierogi. Both were really good.
They are open Tues - Sat, and till 6:30 at least on weekdays. I picked up a few items today, including some nice Russian tea, but the big plan is to drop by on the way home for deli and hot items.
I'm adding a places link with some more contact information from their business card.

Very strange. I've always been treated very politely there.
Memphis Recs - NOT BBQ, please
Try the Soul Fish Cafe in Cooper's Young. They do modernized Southern diner food in a great casual space. I had a real nice catfish plate and some very memorable pickled green tomatoes.
Bonus: You'll be right around the corner from Goner Records!

Muy Pronto Fonda y Birrieria Jalisco - Raleigh
We've had a new opening in Raleigh: Muy Pronto Fonda y Birrieria Jalisco.
They're located off Wake Forest Rd, in one of the outrigger buildings surrounding the surrounding the Super Wal-Mart. See the Places link for a map and other info.
This is a new offering from the folks that run the Los Tres Magueyes restaurants. Those are more typical Mexican restaurant fare, but always done up very well. I've only eaten at their Danville, VA location, but it's become a regular stop on the route to see family in Virginia. With four or more locations, I guess you could call them a chain; but the general vibe is very friendly, indie and family-run.
Though the basic vibe is similar, the new location is different sort of offering. The menu is less about the standard MexiAmerican fare and more traditional Mexican. They have tacos (the real kind, w/ soft masa tortillas, onion and cilantro), tortas and sopes. There are seafood and meat platters. And various soups and stews. Among these the signature dish is Birria, a rich, red and redolent cabrito (goat) and dried chili stew. It's served with masa tortillas, onions, cilantro, and radishes. Pure heaven I tried it for the first time this weekend and highly recommend it. They also make a delicious posole stew in a red, not clear, broth with pork and posole corn kernels. This is similar to the Birria and might be a good starting point for anyone shy about the cabrito.
They also have an assortment of traditional beverages: horchata, jugos, licuadas as well as beer and sodas. No tequila sitings, but a permit may be in the works. I didn't ask.
The dining room is casual, but very nicely done. Definitely a step or two above most of the local taqueria joints. The menu is on the wall and you order and pay at the counter. The staff brings out your order when it's ready. Like their other restaurants it has a nice assortment of handmade touches. And very friendly and helpful service. Spanish seems to be the first language, but I had no problems communicating.
It will take some time to work through the extensive menu, but so far so good. Everything I've had (posole, birria, carne asada tacos) have been very good. It'll be hard to get myself to order something other than the posole or birria, but I'm sure I'll find a way. Tortas and seafood soups are next up.
This /almost/ makes up for Las Cascadas closing. In any case, this is a place I'll be frequenting for some time to come.

Interior is just a few racks of goods and a couple of reach in chillers for drinks. There's a counter where you order sandwiches and soups. I'll second the vote for their brunswick stew. This place is a great little neighborhood location.

Hideaway BBQ in Raleigh
Yeah, too bad.
The food was never what it should have been, but I'll miss it as a music venue. The promoter has moved her shows to the Berkeley Cafe. It looks like she'll continue on there.
I do hope that something good opens in that space. It'll make a great venue for the right operation.
The Pit now opened in Downtown Raleigh for BBQ!
Definitely recommended. The chopped pork BBQ is about the best I've had. And it's nice to be able to have it with a beer.

Who has the best Milkshake in Raleigh???
Hmmm.
Used to be, I'd think first of Ninth St in Durham to McDonald's drugstore and soda fountain. They finally closed up shop, though it looks like someone is reopening a renovated version of the same in that spot.
And Raleigh's best indie ice cream shop had been Cream and Bean. But they're gone now too.
I'm sure one of the traditional diner type joints (Finch's, Joe's, etc.) could fix you up, but not having ordered one in a while I don't have a recommendation for you based on that.
Poole's might offer one. If they do, it'd be great.
Based on old, but first-hand experience, you might want to head over to the Person Street Pharmacy. They've got a nice soda fountain operation there.

Brazilian market in Raleigh area?
For past year or so the ABC store in the Cameron Village shopping center has carried a brand of cachaca. I don't recall the brand name.
Special orders of spirits through the ABC are limited to a list of option that they are ready to provide, and generally require a minimum one case purchase.

No concrete indication as of yet. But it would seem to follow as the main presumption seems to be: everything the same except the name and ownership. If I get down there tomorrow I'll put up the posted hours.
Hopefully they'll do well enough to stay open for at least early dinner/commute carryout business.
Smokey's Shack Opening (formerly Rub's)
The phoenix rises. The establishment formerly known as Rub's Smokehouse is reemerging as Smokey's Shack. Same location, menu, service and food. New roof on the building. Newly realigned ownership.
From the proprietors:
