Where to get Nissan or Zojirushi coffee thermos in Toronto?

In the end: I ordered a Zojorushi Tuff Slim flask from an ebay store in Hong Kong. Shipping was reasonably priced, and it arrived quickly. I'm just trying it out now...

Place to buy Matzoh open on Good Friday (ie: now)

Ha!

1) Yes. My friends are all having a "Seder" tonight (because everyone had family obligations on one of the "real" nights)
2) I forgot tonight was only "fake" seder, so I assumed Jewish stores would be closing early.

I went to Kensington Market, and found Matzoh at Zimmermans. Yay!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Place to buy Matzoh open on Good Friday (ie: now)

Anyone know a place that might sell Matzoh, that might be open Now. I'm doing last-minute stuff for a Seder and forgot about Good firday.

Downtown or near Queen/Dufferin is where I am, but like the Israelites, I realize I may need to wander.

Where to get Nissan or Zojirushi coffee thermos in Toronto?

I read around a bunch about these thermoses online. From everything I've read, it seems like the Nissan line is a different set of products, generally better built etc than the regular Thermos line.

I did buy a regular thermos-line 16-oz bottle (at Canadian TIre). It didn't seem to hold the heat super-well, and leaked a bit. (It also broke after a couple days use, so it's definitely possible that the one I got was just a lemon, and not indiciative of the quality of the product in general....)

Your suggestion to contact Thermos makes sense. I tried that before posting here, but got no response from them.

Where to get Nissan or Zojirushi coffee thermos in Toronto?

I went to the Cherry St T&T - It's a cool place! They had some Thermos Nissan products, but not the one I want. (http://www.thermos.com/Product_detail.aspx?CatCode=NISS&SubcategoryID=1&ProductID=487) Ah well. Maybe I will order it online from somewhere in the US (I can't even find anyone in Canad who sells it online...)

Where to get Nissan or Zojirushi coffee thermos in Toronto?

I tried Tap phong. They don't have the Zojorushi Tuff Slim. They do have a 16 oz Termos-brand thermos, but not the Nissan line. (I think the one they have is called the everyday 570)

I tried Sanko. They carry a number of Zojirushi products, but didn't have the Tuff Slim Thermos.

Super-cheap catering/delivery/take-out for 20 people?

Teehee.

It turned out there was only one strict vegetarian and one who ate fish. They brought some veggie sausages, and had them with the potatoes, rice, and Salad. We didn't to a great job of providing for them, I guess, but I think they had an okay time...

Super-cheap catering/delivery/take-out for 20 people?

In the end, we went with Churrasqueira Oliveira, a very small take-out place on college just east of Dovercourt, partly because they were able to accommodate our pick-up time, partly because I've been there a bunch of times and really like it.

The food was delicious, plentiful, and crazy cheap. We paid $145 for dinner for 20 people , but it could easily have fed 30. Really good tasty stuff.

(Baraida wanted around $220, which is, of course, also pretty damn reasonable...)

Where to get Nissan or Zojirushi coffee thermos in Toronto?

(Oh - I just checked the map. Not as far out of my way as I'd thought. Plus I've never been, and is sounds like a fun place to see!)

Where to get Nissan or Zojirushi coffee thermos in Toronto?

Maybe I'll try them. A bit out of my way, but not too bad....

Where to get Nissan or Zojirushi coffee thermos in Toronto?

Thanks! I'll try.

Where to get Nissan or Zojirushi coffee thermos in Toronto?

I checked the Zojirushi site and checked the local stores they list that are close(ish) to me, but no luck.

Where to get Nissan or Zojirushi coffee thermos in Toronto?

Hey. I'm looking for a really good 16-oz thermos for coffee. Some looking online suggests that really good ones are the Thermos Nissan model, or the Zojorushi Tuff Slim.

But I haven't been able to find either of these anywhere inToronto. Anyone have suggestions of places that might carry them?

I'm mostly around downtown and Parkdale, but glad to go elsewhere if needed.

(Alternately - if anyone can recommend another really good 16 oz coffee thermos that you *can* find in town, let me know...)

Super-cheap catering/delivery/take-out for 20 people?

All of these are great ideas. The party is tomorrow. I think we'll go with one of the many portuguese barbecues in the area. I'll ask aroudn today. Our party is tomorrow at 8:00, so the deciding factor might be which of the places is open at that time (many of them close early on Sunday, I think...)

Kagemusha, Godess, Face - These are all great suggestions! Thanks!

Super-cheap catering/delivery/take-out for 20 people?

Hi,

I’m having around 20 people over for a party. I want to serve an informal, fun dinner and have some drinks after.

I’m trying to think of a way to serve a dinner that’s really cheap – up to, say, around $10 per person. (And I don't want to cook...)

Anyone have any ideas/recommendations for super-cheap catering/delivery/take-out?

I’m around Parkdale, if that makes a difference...

Any suggestions/tips much appreciated!

(ps – some of the guests will be vegetarian, and one or two are gluten-intolerant. Suggestions that could accommodate all these people are welcome, but not necessary…)

Buffet-style: priced by-the-pound, or fixed container size?

Lots of great suggestions. Here's an attempt to sumarize all the places from the thread so far:

- Whole Foods
- Marcello’s
- Longo’s
- Kitchen Table

- Brazilian/Portuguese place called "Kilo Buffet" @ Dundas & Dufferin
- Chinese place in the Eaton Centre (No longer)
- Chinese places at the St. Clair subway, north exit, under the Ziggy's
- A few places at St. Patrick Market (Chinese & Thai)
- Le Commensal on Elm St

Any others?

Buffet-style: priced by-the-pound, or fixed container size?

Great! I had no idea there were all these market salad bars hidden in the PATH: Longo's, Marcello's, the Kitchen Table... Good to know! I

Buffet-style: priced by-the-pound, or fixed container size?

Good to know about the Kitchen Tables. I don't think I've ever been to one, but apparently they're all over Toronto ( http://www.thekitchentable.ca/ ) Good to know about Kama Kama, too. "huge DIY salad bar" sounds perfect, but Woodbine north of Steeles is too far to go for lunch. :)

Buffet-style: priced by-the-pound, or fixed container size?

Cool!
Some quick googling suggests that that's a common thing in brazil, where it's called a "Restaurante por quilo" ("por quilo" = "by the kilogram"). http://gobrazil.about.com/od/fooddrinkglossary/g/kilorest.htm

Who knew?

Buffet-style: priced by-the-pound, or fixed container size?

Yeah that's the sort of place (well, one of a couple sort of places) I'm looking for. I've been around the Eaton Ctr a bit, and don't recall every noticing this place. Can anyone out there confirm? Share details?

Buffet-style: priced by-the-pound, or fixed container size?

(I went to Marcello's, but I went at 3:00, and they only do the buffet till 2:30. I'll try next time I'm around there).

Buffet-style: priced by-the-pound, or fixed container size?

canadianbeaver, I'm going to be around King/University today! I'll check out Marcello's. Thanks!!

Where to go for Iranian food?

According to the thread at:

http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/424912

You there is a good Iranian brain sandwich to be had at Rose, on yonge across from centre point. Is that the place?

Buffet-style: priced by-the-pound, or fixed container size?

torontofoodiegirl: Thanks! That's a great idea.

OnDaGo: Thanks, too, for the warning about price. Money's not my top concern. I'm okay to pay a few bucks extra if it's a nice selection, etc.

I'll check out Whole Foods for sure.

Buffet-style: priced by-the-pound, or fixed container size?

Hey. I’m curious if people have suggestions for places in Toronto (mainly downtown and/or west end) where you get to choose and/or serve your own food, but that are *not* all-you can eat buffets. I’m thinking of stuff like:

- Places where it’s “all you can fit in a container of a fixed size” (eg: the Chinese and Thai places at McCaul market, where you can get all the food you can put in a Sm/Med/Lrg box, for $5/$6/$7)

- Buffet places that charge by weight (like Commensal)

- (To a lesser degree) Places like Zyng on Yonge below bloor, where you can choose as many veggies as you can put in a small bowl, and they cook ‘em up for you.

- Places like those “salad bars” they have all over Manhattan, where you can choose between a million different hot and cold dishes, assemble your meal, and then pay by weight at the cash. I love those, but don’t think I’ve ever seen one in Toronto.

I like being able to get lunch somewhere where choose what I want to eat, but buffets lead to a greater temptation to over-eat, and also tend to not be so cost-effective if you want a smaller meal.

Any suggestions?

(I tried various searches on “buffet” and “salad bar”, but not of them really turned up what I’m looking for)

Weekend Brunch for 8-10, in west end?

Mitzi's sister seems like a good idea. I wonder if they'd take reservations for brunch. (That's part of the challenge. It seems like a lot of places don't take brunch reservations...)

Weekend Brunch for 8-10, in west end?

My friends and I like to get brunch together on weekends. Brunch places get so crowded though, and lots of places don't take reservations for brunch.

Can anyone recommend good place where you can reliably seat 8-10 people for brunch on weekends? We mostly all live around Queen/Dufferin, so places around that part of town (or within a bike ride of there) are best.

Our actual food tastes within the group vary a lot, so we're pretty flexible - happy to eat in greasy spoons, happy to eat in fancier places.

(We've mostly been to the Cadillac Lounge a lot, not so much because we love it, but because there's always seating. But some of us are getting bored of it...)

Suggestions?
