a week at Marriott Newport Coast
Thanks for your suggestions, everyone!
Aside from the restaurants listed, I visited the relatively newly opened Sol Cocina on PCH, where Mama Gina's used to be. They have completely transformed the place into a modern, Mexican dining room. The food is amazing, with different twists on some played-out favorites, like calamari, which they serve as about three or four large strips of coconut crusted calamari with orange zest. The ceviche was one of the best ceviches I've tried, Mexico and back, and they offer a wide variety of street tacos, which everyone's familiar with, as well as five or six relatively larger tacos which include fish and pork. The decor and the service was wonderful (maybe I should've made a separate thread for this...hahah) and I definitely think it's a must for anyone in the area looking for upscale Mexican dining.
There isn't a CHOW place made for the restaurant yet, so here's the general info:

a week at Marriott Newport Coast
My family and I are spending a week at the Marriott Newport Coast resort right off PCH. We have a couple of restaurants in mind already including Las Brisas for brunch, Joe's Crab Shack for a group dinner probably, and Villa Nova for a nice night out. Any other ideas? Can be casual, but nothing too over the top fancy. The price range is pretty wide as well, so just throw some suggestions at me!
visiting friend in Berkeley... need recommendations!
It doesn't matter at all! Upscale or super, super casual - we enjoy both. And thanks for the link, taco trucks are always a must!
visiting friend in Berkeley... need recommendations!
My best friend just moved to Berkeley, and I'm planning on driving up to visit in a couple of weeks. Being from LA, I'm the ultimate foodie and she always depends on me for amazing restaurant recommendations. And seeing as how I've never visited the area before, I decided to turn to my Chowhound friends to help me find tasty and unique places to visit around town. I've already read over a few different posts about restaurants around Berkeley, which have listed Cheeseboard, Top Dog, and Bakesale Betty's among the best. Any suggestions?!
Best Gyros in L.A.
Spitz (the original location in Eagle Rock, and the newer one in Downtown L.A.) have amazing "donner" kebab sandwiches. You have an option of getting it with Focaccia bread or in a pita wrap, which is a bit deviated from the original idea of the gyros, but it's a great place. They also have amazingggg fried pita strips and great hummus (I have a Middle Eastern family, so I have valid reason is judging so!)

Saturday Brunch/Lunch in Hollywood Area?
I've been to AMMO for dinner, but that was about a year and a half ago, and I heard they've changed management since then. Regardless, it was great when I went at the time, and the group of friends I went with really enjoyed it as well.
Saturday Brunch/Lunch in Hollywood Area?
I don't know if it would be too far for you, but Toast on 3rd Street has a great menu, and even though it might be a bit crowded, it's a lovely place, especially if the weather permits!
mother's day brunch around newport.
Mother's Day is coming up! I'm originally from L.A., but I live in Newport Beach now, so my family will be coming down to the O.C. to celebrate Mother's Day. Other than the usual Las Brisas and Cannery suggestions, does anyone have any other suggestions of a nice, Sunday brunch. Preferably nothing too casual, but not too pricey either. Thanks =)
Best Fries in and around Hollywood

Best Taco Stands in LA
El Sauz on the corner of Chevy Chase and San Fernando in Glendale (near Los Feliz) - great tacos, but the lady in the front won't like you much if you don't know any Spanish...
Andd Leo's on Eagle Rock Blvd (and W. Avenue 43) - it's open Tues-Sunday 8pm-2am (3am on weekends).
Good eats Glendale
Fish King is actually on Glendale Ave. off the 134. Glendale Blvd. goes towards the Silver Lake / Hyperion area.
