TOP MEXICAN IN FLA

Then you've not stumbled upon all the little mercado's with fonda's in the back making lengue, buche, cabeza, etc.

There are dozens in Orlando alone that fly under the radar because 99.999% of the gabacho's in Florida wouldn't dare eat at a place that didn't have WiFi or taco salads on the menu.

BBQ in Florida

Newberry's is great. Kind of a scary neighborhood, but the owners are terrific people.

In search of good Oyako Don Buri anywhere in Florida. Suggestions?

The dish, as you described, bears little resemblance to Oyakodon as typically prepared in Japan. I've eaten this dish in numerous places all over Japan and none of them had teriyaki sauce or a fried egg. The chicken is also not grilled.

It is hard to find in most Japanese restaurants in Florida simply because most Japanese restaurants in Florida are pretty inauthentic.

That being said, Hanamizuki in Orlando is very authentic and has a very authentic (if Kyoto leaning) menu.

Places to eat in Vero Beach

A few minutes drive north of Vero is the Yellow Dog Cafe. Good food.

Best Indian Food - Orlando

Sorry to hear that. We've only done lunch there whe zip over to Orlando for the day.

Amigos Mexican Restaurant

"New spot on 14837 North Florida Avenue close to Bearss in a strip mall (Action plaza)".

First line of the post. Didn't see the word Tampa anywhere in the post.

Thank you.

Any California-style Mexican (or tacos al pastor) in Orlando?

The map is a work in progress. The problem is, the only locations I'll put on the map are places I would return to.

There are places that get a lot of recommendations, such as Chilango's and California Burrito Express, that don't for one reason or another, meet my standards. They won't go on the map.

My frame of reference however is Cali-Mex as found in LA, San Diego, and Frontera Baja California. This is why I haven't found one, single fish taco that I would eat a second time. It's not that some of the ones in Florida aren't decent, they just don't taste like the ones I ate in the food stalls of little towns along highway 1 in Baja. My map, my taste. Your milage may vary.

I continue searching and will update the map as I see fit.

Only 1 Day in Savannah - Where to Get the Best Lunch?

Not permanently.

Any California-style Mexican (or tacos al pastor) in Orlando?

It's not a restauran per se, but there's a truck located in a big vacant lot in Haines City that has authentic al Pastor.

I don't have an address or a real name because this is indeed, a truck that sells tacos. Not just any taco's mind you, but tacos al pastor carved from the revolving al pastor rotisserie and served on freshly made corn tortillas. I wanted to get a photo of it last time I was there, but every time I pulled out my camera, the cook hightailed it outta' there! What's up with that?

Head down OBT until you just about hit Haines City and on east side of the road on weekends is a Mexican swap meet. The taco truck is usually on the north side of the big lot, next to the guy selling baby goats and chickens.

Amigos Mexican Restaurant

How about an address for this place?

Korean BBQ in Space Coast?

No, there are no Korean restaurants around the Space Coast. You'll have to drive to Orlando for your fix of bulgogi. I recommend Shin Jung in the Vi-Mi area or Korea House in Longwood. I've been to Korea a few times and have a pretty good idea what good Korean food should taste like and these two places are usually spot on.

You can also try Kyong Song Oriental Market (funny how Asians use the word Oriental but the PC crowd won't) located at 690 North Wickham Road in Melbourne. They have a pretty good variety of Korean groceries and usually have cabbage, turnip, and cucumber style kimchee. It's fresh.

The lady in the back of the store has a little kitchen and prepares light fare starting around lunch time. There are usually a couple of elderly Korean ladies hanging out in the back cooking and nibbling. We usually get a few fresh gimbap rolls whenever we go in.

The sell galbi if you want to make your own bulgogi !

Best Indian Food - Orlando

Tabla has a small be flavorful buffet and is reasonably priced. It's in the absolute stranges location, but the folks who run it are very nice. We go there for lunch fairly often.

Recs for Mexican, Indian or Thai - Orlando

I don't get this place. It's awful. The one on Colonial and Semoran is good, but the mall locations might as well be classified as a food court establishment with alcohol.

Bad. Very, very bad.

California Burrito Express -- Orlando (E. Colonial Drive)

I finally made it back. Ordered a couple of fish taco's and were told they didn't have them. I didn't ask whether he meant that day or any longer so my quest to find an edible fish taco in Mickyville goes on....

Next stop, Clearwater.

Where to eat on the road from Kennedy Space to Orlando Int'l...

River Rocks is located in Suntree, about 40 minutes south of KSC. The median age is around 70. It is a retirement community. That goes for probably 50% or more of the diners in the area.

That should answer your question.

Best sushi in Orlando?

Do you like Japanese sushi or Americanized sushi? Orlando has many of the latter, very few of the former. Orlando is primarily a micky-mouse magic gator with butterscotch roll kind of place, if you catch my drift.

is there german food in florida???

Have you eaten at Edelweiss in Melbourne? Great little place with a good German clientel and an wonder couple who own/run the place. It's small and doesn't have a large selection day to day (like I said, it's small) but what it does it does very well. Cured me of my need to drive to The Willow Tree.

Looking for Orlando: classic, famous, institutions, unusual specials, best kept secret

The folks at Lee & Rick's told me once that they get their oysters from a supplier in Apalachicola. Although Apalachicola bay wasn't effected by the spill, the supply of oysters dried up for other reasons. I'm not sure if Lee & Rick's has been effected because I don't eat summer oysters and haven't been since the spill.

Shipyard Brewpub and Big Wheel Provisions Market, Orlando

I was bummed when their brewpub closed at OIA. I only live about 30 miles east of the airport and go there often. Alas, driving to Winter Park to have a beer isn't something I'll do very often.

Orlando Chowdown - July 27 at Nile Ethiopian Restaurant

This isn't the first Orlando Chowdown. I tried putting one together a couple of years ago at TRP and only one other hound showed up. I did get a few dozen "darn I wish I could attend but..... " emails though. Even after announcing the date and time a couple of months in advance, there just wasn't enough interest in trying again.

Your mileage may very. Good luck.

Only 1 Day in Savannah - Where to Get the Best Lunch?

That makes sence. The photo of Madison Cafeteria e was lifted off another web site:
http://www.savannahoffthebeatenpath.com/Food/house_of_prayer.htm
and the address isn't the same as Masada Cafe. It seems as if they have two locations. I've eaten many times at the one on West Bay.

Only 1 Day in Savannah - Where to Get the Best Lunch?

No. I said and mean the Masada Cafe.

I need Food Media opinions

One word: Usenet

Domino's New Pizza

After 4 years of no over-the-counter pizza, we caved in and ordered from Dominos the other night.

After a couple of bites each, the entire pie went into the trash. It was the single worse pizza I have had in my life. That includes such memorable pies as the squid and corn pizza from Shakey's in Japan.

Dominos dough (doh!) tastes like it came out of some poppin fresh can and the artificial garlic/butter stuff they coat it with tasted like the seepage from a bed sore. They are the BP of the pizza world and should be forced to pay a fine for even offering this drek to the public.

Boiling corn? A salt question...

Same reason corn isn't fully digested by humans, if you know what I mean.

I need Food Media opinions

Head on over to Public Television. They have many wonderful cooking shows without all the chefutainers and "reality" type shows. You'll find folks like Jose Andres, Steve Reichlen, et.al.

The beauty is that PBS can be picked up over the air. The upside is you won't have to listen to delishsammievoogargabebowlyumo ever again..

SD: Flay fish taco throwdown!

I use to live in San Diego and had my first fish taco in Ensenada back in the 70's. I'm stuck for now in Orlando, Florida, and miss decent Cal-Mex food.

There isn't a fish taco withing a hundred miles that's worth eating around here. I envy you folks from San Diego, even the bad fish taco's are better than the ones here.

California Burrito Express -- Orlando (E. Colonial Drive)

Finally made it by this past weekend and I'm glad I did. Although the burrito con carne asada isn't quite as good as Beto's, you're less likely to get shot, so it balances out.

I also had a carnitas taco which I found very flavorful. The carne asada tacos are a little small, but had a nice flavor.

I'll be going back this weekend to try the fish taco. I'm spoiled as hell having learned to eat them in Encinada, Mexico. NO GOOD FISH TACO'S ARE AVAILABLE IN ORLANDO. I hope they change my mind.

Cocoa Beach

I'd stay away from Florida’s Seafood Bar & Grill. Not good, not good at all. A tourist trap through and through. It's a plastic tableware-prepackaged salad dressing-fake pirate leg on the wall kind of place.

Grease is the word.

Best sushi in Orlando?

I've eaten there many times, it's the best in the area for traditional dishes like ramen, etc.

However, on my last visit, we got some sushi that stank and was unedible. We broke the longstanding rule about never ordering raw fish on Sunday and got burned. That being said, if the Itamae was willing to serve old fish in the first place, it doesn't say much for their standards.

We'll continue to eat there, but not the sashimi or sushi.
