I attached this on the last Ct post but no one responded so I'll try again. We are leaving in 2 weeks and I would love some food advice. No one has mentioned Ruben's who has restaurants in both CT and Franschhoek. Read about him in Saveur and menus look great. What does anyone think? Ruben mentions Bread and Wine Vineyard for lunch in Franschhoek? Good choices in Stellenbosch? Where is the best place for well prepared African dishes such as ostrich or antelope? We will be in CT for a week and will have a car so we can do lots of day trips. |

The last posting for here was in 07! Anyone have anything more current. We will be a week in Capetown taking day trips to coasts and wine areas. In and out of Jo-burg for wedding and safari trips. Appreciate any current insights. Thank you |

Recommendations for meals in Burgundy Thanks for all the input. Will figure out the day to be in Beaunne right away, Ma Cuisine sounds perfect. "Stuffy" is okay when you can taste 9 wines! Thanks for the link. And keep ideas coming. |

Recommendations for meals in Burgundy We start our trip with dinner with dinner at Troisgros. We had our 1st 3 star meal there 22 years ago, and a chef friend says it is still his favorite place outside of Paris. Then we go to our B&B outside of Saulieu. We will not be dining at Lameloise, Loiseau or La Cote St-Jacques, one REALLY grand meal a week is enough. We intend to go out each day, for 4 days to the charming villages, ruins and vineyards from our central location. But where to eat? Loiseau des Vignes in Beaunne is on the list because we can have a less grand version of Loiseau with sereral great wines by the glass. But we need a few bistros and country cooking to go with all this luxe. Please help. We finish with a week in Paris dedicated to chocolates and pastry! |

Le Charlemagne - near Beaune, Burgundy We will be in Burgundy for a week in early May. Did you have other meals there that you felt were better values? There are few guides to Burgundy restaurants in English. We start our trip with dinner at Troisgros so we do not need grand dining. Looking for great local food and wine. |

Where in Rome to watch election results? Looks like Celeste is the only one in Rome who cares. I was thinking of one of the big hotels. There must be a Hilton right? |

Where in Rome to watch election results? It will be early morning in Rome as the polls close back here so where do we go to watch talking heads? We will be in a dreadful cheap hotel so that won't work. And the local bars won't have CNN to go with our espressos. We didn't realize we would miss election night when we grabbed this cheap price months ago. And the Europeans are as anxious about the results as we are. Now where do we go? |
