Five Days in Montreal

Thank you all for the thoughtful responses, we are en route to Montreal now, having got a late start due to weather. One last question, where could one watch some American football on a Sunday?

Five Days in Montreal

Merry Christmas everyone! This is very last minute but I could use some help for an upcoming trip to Montreal with myself and my significant other. This is our first visit to the city and most of the trip will center around food and beverage. I am in the industry as I own a protein centric food truck in the states. We will be staying the the Plateau Mont Royal area arriving thursday afternoon and staying till tuesday morning. That being said this is what we are kinda looking for in no particular order:

- Brunch spot with a great scene
- breakfast spot, greasy spoon
- something is the vein of joe beef, as we won't be able to get into joe beef
- fine dinning, for dinner, prefer if it was very french in technique
- ethnic spots- chinese, thai, indian or any others that should be hit up.
- the main vs schwartz's
- hate the term but " gastro pub" good bar with good food, can be dive-ish
- full fledge dive for locals
- romantic pre dinner drink spot
- names of some of the "hot spots" for dinner
- bar with live music
- sushi?
- bistro, brass all things french for lunch
- night clubs or bars where theres some good people watching
- best market in case we cook
- beer bar

I think that covers most of what we are looking for. Price point $-$$$$, open to everything. If there are any other " must go to's" please feel free to include them. We are both very adventurous eaters and have no problem bouncing from place to place all afternoon sampling everything a place has to offer.

Thank you for your help. Merry Christmas!

Chinese on Thanksgiving

ive read the reports on mr chow and they are entertaining, its sad to see a place like that do well and so many good, local places shut there doors ,esp right now, bc lindsey lohan sits at a table there between cig breaks and jay z recently just mentioned in his new hit, the two of them wouldn't even know what a peeking duck was if you smacked them across the face with one.

Chinese on Thanksgiving

So my aunt and uncle are coming in from out of town for thanksgiving and want to recreate what went on in the film a christmas story but on thanksgiving. So what they want is a great cantonese joint, no sushi, for thanksgiving dinner. Uncle does not eat meat or chicken but plenty of seafood. The aunt and three kids are up for anything, the kids are 7, 6, and 2, they are well behaved so can go almost anywhere. Price is not a matter. Dont want a super high end place like a mr chow, philipe because we all know the food at those places arent king, more a place with great food and character. I know ill probly get a "search is your friend response", but some suggestions of places would be nice. They will be staying at the Palace, but are willing to travel to any part of manhattan, no flushing. Thanks for the help!

Bar scene with great eats for Friday

Need a place for friday night for 2 people, looking to eat a bar thats got great food and a trendy younger scene, prefer either village, meatpacking or tribeca. Price is not a factor. They are going to Balthazar saturday something not to similar to that. Also one of the two does not eat meat or chicken but all types of seafood, has to have a decent selection of veg. or fish options. Thanks for the help!

Sammy's Roumanian Steakhouse

Soooo how was it? Well much to all your dismay we ended up sticking with Sammy's. FIrst off the smell of the place is just terrible. When we we seated we were one of only three parties in the place and i got alittle worried that it was going to be a disaster but within 30 mins the place was packed so it turned out OK. The food was preety sub par. I missed the whole revolation that is suppose to take place with the chopped liver. I found to just be average. I also got a order of the veal dumplings that the dumpling itself was just so heavy, not good. Me and my buddy split the large tenderlion, which what do they do slice tenderlions into skirt steaks shapes, i dont get it i have never seen one so thin. This steak was preeeety bad. Now the food was def the low point in the night but i will say we had a preety fun time. The 12 of us put back 5 of the frozen kettel one so honeslty most of the group by the end didnt even probly remember the meal. We were feeling good. We found the yiddish muscian to be preety funny and at one point some of my group were on the mic with him. Maybe we got lucky because there were about 6 other birthdays in the place and these people were ready to party just like us. Forgot to order the egg cream : ( . The bill came, 1400 for the 12 of us, ouch. Some in the group looked as if they were going to be sick as this point, but i had gone in preparing for the worst. The waiting staff was very nice but for that type of money for that type of food is a joke, a 4 dollar cover charge for the music? and spitting fees on everything not to mention trying to push the the whole menu on you.

Saturday was a much better dining experiance food wish, as I hit up lupa the spotted pig and combined spent less than at sammys.

Wollensky- Prime rib or Colorado Ribeye?

i would agree that S&W is in most ways very similar to the other high end chains, i.e. mortons, ruth chris, and capital grill ( even tho I also share a real dislike for ruth chris, having the hot plates continue to cook my steak longer than id like) but I will say that if you going to S&W it is a no brainer, you should get the cajun ribeye.

Wollensky- Prime rib or Colorado Ribeye?

Had the cajun ribeye a few weeks ago at S&W, and it was one of the best steaks ive had in my life and ive at almost every steak house you can think of, not just in ny but around the country. The rib eye is huge, on the bone with a good amount of fat that just gives it great taste. I usually would never get a cajun any type of steak but went with it and the seasoning is just fantastic. Really a must try, Im a rare guy with meat but with the rib eye go with MR to activate that fat and get all the flavor the steak has.

Sammy's Roumanian Steakhouse

I heading to this lower east side establishment with around 15 of my old college buddies who really love to drink and hear this is an real experience. From what ive been able to read about the place, they serve bottles of vodka that are frozen in a block of ice? And there are syrup bottles of chicken fat on every table. Also here the chopped liver is to die for, mixed tabled side . If anyone has eaten there, any suggestions as I am a big steak guy and have read that they only serve there meats well done which makes me rather sick to my stomach and just wondering how wild this place actually get. We like to go to La Mela once in awhile because we can act like we used to in college,so we are hoping this place can top the great time we have there, thanks for the help
